A spring bear hunt has been in my mind. Thinking in next couple years I may have to make this happen.

@@dto_outdoors would love too. Just started a new job. I have 6 months training and classes to go through. I'll finish just in time to go elk hunting.

Like the video but I think you forgot one state. Arizona, we may not have the numbers like Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho but he have big bears and especially big color phase bears. The OTC tag is pretty much good for the whole state minus the res hunts and white mountain area.

Thanks for sharing this Brady and breaking this topic down. I hope to one year to be able to get out west on a spring bear 🐻 hunt. I would probably pick a productive looking unit that I may be interested in applying for elk or mule deer 🦌 in the fall. At least one close by and gets some boots on the ground scouting while also hunting.
You said that black bear 🐻 was number two behind high country mule deer 🦌, so what’s 3-5 on the list for you?

Hey Forest. Glad you enjoyed the video. If you ever head out West and find your way down by Vegas, be sure to stop by the office. Love to say hi in person! You're strategy there is one that should be considered more often and is sometimes overlooked. Hunt spring bear in a unit that can double as a "scouting" trip for elk or mule deer is a phenomenal way to learn the lay of the land and figure out access points and road systems. Great questions... and that's a tough one. Some of the ones on my list of top 5 are "dream hunts" but I was fortunate to take them both with my bow in 2013 and to this day I'd love to tag along on more of these types of hunts just to help people. So with all the said... #3 - Mountain goat - just an incredible monarch of the mountains and I loved every second when I was at full draw on a cliff edge about to release an arrow. That adventure is something else! #4 - moose - again another adventure species but this was an animal that was very special to hunt. The camp, the friends you make are everything and I'd rank moose meat right up with some of my favorite of all time. #5 - I'd have to go with either elk or antelope. Antelope are just a super unique animal, always on edge and a blast to bowhunt. I really enjoyed bowhunting them every year when I lived in Montana and antelope is my wife's favorite wild game meat. But I crave the mountains, so I'd give an edge to elk here because of the mountain aspect. If I was to select my favorites based solely on animals that are "easier" to get a tag for that I have personally hunted, I'd go #1 - mule deer, #2 - black bear, #3 - elk, #4 - antelope and #5 - whitetail deer.

@@GOHUNT I definitely enjoy these type videos that speak on strategy. I try and soak that up as often as I can, including the strategy articles that I get as an Insider.
Well that strategy does make sense for the reasons that you mentioned. Those were the main reasons that I thought of as well not just seeing what the deer and elk herds were like. If the state allowed one could set a few cameras out there as well. Whether one is a resident or non resident that strategy would work. So if one sat in the virtual waiting room for their Idaho Over the Internet tag 🏷 on December 1st they could plan their spring bear hunt in the same area at the same time.
Excellent thank you for the invite. Hopefully I can take you up on that offer. I would like to meet you, Trail, Neville, Brandon, Campos, Porter, Lorenzo and the rest of the GoHunt team.
A couple years ago when I was single I almost applied for the Digital Media Internship.
That is a fantastic list and hard to argue with that. I might replace the mountain goat with one of the Bighorn sheep subspecies and put it at number 6.
As you might know I want to hunt pronghorn in every state that I can DIY style no matter the weapon type. Then possibly mix in deer 🦌 and elk, etc...
Thanks again for the great answer and reply.
