Its sad that "I'm trying" is the best that OG Star Wars fans can muster for Disney Star Wars. The only consolation for most of us is that we are flying the appropriate colours while doing so. I fell bad for people who are actually paying for the nonsense that seems to be the majority of Disney SW content.
Well, like many fans who dislike the direction that Lucasfilm is taking, it's hard to find the energy to watch something that you are not excited about.
I really enjoy when people have the balls to do something fun and unique with this franchise. Not every piece of Star Wars content needs to be exactly like the main line films when there’s a literal galaxy’s worth of story’s to tell.
It doesn't, but before going for niche audience they should satisfy the main audience (like Kristian said very well), until now almost everything was garbage, Andor and Mandalorian first 2 seasons being the exceptions.
@@andreiga76 There was a time when sci-fi was niche and not mainstream even though it'd been around forever (with things like Jules Verne). SW was the beginning of the mainstreaming even though there were shows like Star Trek and Lost in Space on tv before then. Star Wars revolutionized not just the effects field, but of the genre, itself. There's a reason why nerds were picked on until maybe the past 10-15 years or so; precisely b/c they liked 'weird', niche things.
Remember Andor, when people said "It's not Star Wars. Doesnt feel like Star Wars. It's not what people want." This show is designed for the upcoming generation. My daughter was IMMEDIATELY hooked on this trailer when she watched it.
I actually expect this show to do really well. It’s when fans have sky high expectations that Star Wars has missed the mark the most. Whether Rogue One or Andor, stories with lower expectations have quickly become hits. Plus the fact that kids/families can watch this without needing to watch everything else means this could be huge. We’ll see.
I think there is enough room in Star Wars for variety. Andor was a spy thriller\heist show. Clone Wars was a wartime drama. Original Star Wars was epic fantasy. I am good with them having a goonies-esque entry.
“Major Tom” in Huttese was pretty cool! :) This show by no means is gonna unite the fan base OR lure back any disenfranchised fans. “Star Wars” has always been for kids. I don’t think this is the intent with the show. If anything, this is a pleasant “palette cleanser” from everything else. Sort of a soft reset. (hopefully) I think this is going to be a fun, simple space adventure and I’m here for it!
I don't think it's intended to "bring people back" but this is 100% for new fans and I'm totally fine with that. It's a kids show and the nods to amblin entertainment and spielberg are intended for parents my age and slightly older so they can sit down and watch it too. It's classic kids show strategy here. As someone who grew up in the 90's with all these spielberg movies, this is also something I absolutely would have watched if they made this when I was a kid and honestly I'm kind of jealous I don't get to see this show through the eyes of 10 year old me lol.
That's the thing. SW wasn't exactly adult fair back in the day either. It was a young kid, finding out his way in the huge galaxy and on a hero's journey. Now, that the people who grew up with that are older, now we want the franchise to cater to us when it hadn't all those years ago. That's not to say there isn't room for more adult or kids stuff and anything in between, but to demand that they cater to our tastes now that the kids who grew up on OT and PT feels a bit entitled (that may not be quite the right word).
@@Fan-Nimater101 Of course it's not "just" for kids but they are certainly the target audience and to be fair, it has been for the most part since '77. The only thing I can think of that is 100% not for kids is probably Andor. But even with kids shows and movies, there's always *something* aimed at adults. Usually in the form of references that will go over kids heads. The actual purpose being that the show or movie ends up being something the adults will actually tolerate so they get to sit down with their kids. To use another franchise as an example: Bluey. That is 100% a kids show. That is it's main purpose. However, it's well written and in such a way that it adds additional content for Adults and does it well, hence why so many adults quite happily watch it even if they don't actually have kids themselves. Nevertheless, the target audience is still kids.
Andor feels more like THX 1138 than Star Wars to me, it's the cinematography, it takes me out of the story, it just doesn't have the feel of Star Wars.
My main issue with Andor was too many flashbacks to Andor's childhood which slowed down the pace of the episodes I watched. After three episodes, I was bored as hell.
During the sequel trilogy I really thought the discourse of toxic star wars fandom was overblown. As I sit here today, I see I was wrong. I think what makes the fandom so particularly problematic is that "Star Wars" means something diffterent to each person. It was wide reaching from the first movie and now if you bring in 100 people and show them random trailers or scenes and ask them to rate if its "Star Wars" or not, you would get much closer to random than you do consensus. Which means on every project there will be loud crying and tearing down of something other people enjoy.
That wouldn't be a problem if they were all aware that it's just about personal tastes. Instead, these days everybody seems convinced that if they dislike something it's only because it's objectively bad. Which, sadly, is an objectively stupid take 🤷🏼♀️

Maybe instead of „marvelizing“ the SW tv spectrum and just pumping stuff out nobody really wants at the moment, focus on one quality program/movie that at least tries to honor what came before. If Disney can somehow rebuild trust with the fanbase (which I HIGHLY doubt), then you can think about diversifying your programming again.
at this point who is star wars for these days ? he fact the viewership has been declining since season 2 of the mandalorian is is not for a large amount of the audiance.
They don’t have anything to bring people back besides Andor though. The majority are sick and tired of Grogu and S3 of The Mandalorian was like S8 of GOT to a lot of fans, hardly anyone wants a Rey movie, and it looks like they want to scrap it anyways, Ahsoka was a snooze fest and Dave Filoni continues to be exposed as a guy who took too much credit from The Clone Wars when it was really George Lucas, no more Boba, no more Luke, etc. After Andor S2, they have nothing left to offer. Nothing that will bring people back.
KK cultists always take George’s words too literally. When he said SW was for kids, he meant it’s for “all ages.” Disney literally think SW is for kids.
They're doubling down on the 80's Spielberg vibe and I'm all for it. Haven't been too excited about Star Wars for some time, but I hope we can have a good old fun adventure. That's been missing lately.
going with the 80s vibe might end up appealing to 40 year olds than the kids who they are trying to target who see the likes of ET and goonies, in the words of Peter Parker - those really old movies.
This is going to be so fun, my kids and I can’t wait!!! Star Wars can make things for a new generation that is DIFFERENT than the things they made for the older generations.
I think it looks great. It's a show based on the Star wars universe, clearly. I have hopes it will feel more like Star wars as we get into it. We'll see. But I'm stoked for it.
Let me ask you a question (and sincerely not meaning this to be abrasive or combative). How old were you first when you saw SW? And how old are you now and do you still like it?
SW didn’t reach the UK until early 1978. I’m an old man who STILL loves SW. Skeleton Key is aimed specifically for children but my question is: do modern day children care about SW? I don’t think they do, so it’s odd to me that Lucasfilm keeps making content for an audience so small. George made SW for everyone.
@@SoulStylistJukeBox So, you watched a story about a young kid, finding his way in the galaxy and going on a hero's journey that adults happened to like, but one that clearly had a young protagonist (two since we can include Leia) and you still love it all these years later as an adult. I'm not sure this is that much different about a band of kids now (maybe younger, sure) who may appeal to young kids, say 10 year olds (with protagonists even closer to that age this time) who may grow up to adults that have fond memories of this series when they are older, similarly how there are tons of Gen X kids who grew up on Goonies and ET that swear by those movies to this day... or even Star Wars.
@@Vulcanerd irrelevant questioning. Star Wars now is "soft". In the prequels people got dismembered, the characters and action were badass. Disney Star Wars is none of that
Star Wars is a setting as much as it's a "franchise" or an "IP". The setting draws eyeballs and I totally am onboard with people using the Star Wars setting to tell different stories. It's a similar argument with Andor. The show wouldn't have been made and wouldn't have been as good if it didn't have the budget a Star Wars show would get. The best you could have hoped for is AppleTV making an Andor-like Sci-fi show but the audience would be much smaller. To me, this qualifies as Star Wars. You got Aliens, Droids, Space Ships and a Jedi. You have a call to adventure. You have something fun for the whole family. Lets go!
When I watched the trailer, I knew you wouldn't dig the music, which I didn't think worked for the trailer, but the music aside it looked good. The Mandoverse which this is part of is FUN, and that is what I want - A Fun Show!
It saddened me seeing people complaining about "real world music in SW". Just remembering that John Williams himself used Brazilian music on Canto Bight... It's called "Aquarela do Brasil". Guess people don't care if they don't know it?
I think this show looks fun but it doesn’t need to be a kids show for kids to gravitate towards lol. Most of us were kids when we watched all the trilogies
Your comment brings up an interesting thought. Are kids of today able to engage with the OT and Prequel films? Are they able to engage with The Clone Wars and Rebels TV shows? If so, they do not NEED Skeleton Crew. If not, you may have a fair point.
not sure, it is leading heavily into the 80s nostalgia, but will that appeal to kids of today, the 80s were a long time ago, people who grew up then are in their 40s and 50s. Stranger thing managed to do it however so who knows
You can see the lack of interest in harloff's face lol 1. I like it. I think SW should be many things if they want to survive as a franchise. This show is SW, like andor(inspired by blade runner ) or visions(anime) are. The most important thing is their quality and cost. 2. Now, to premiere this innocent show after so many disappointments, instead of something more serious and important, that's another conversation, however, we must remember that after this, they only have andor S2 left, there are no more things announced
I'm actually excited to see which way they go with it and it's the first Star wars show in awhile my son said to me that it actually looks good and wants to watch it
I hate to tell you all this but Disney , most of Disney products are for 7-14 year olds , and if everyone else likes it oh well….. I’m sorry the 25-40 and up Crowd don’t like all these storylines and just want an epic space opera but Disney can’t just do that allll the time….and they don’t want to. This is the same thing about why MTV stopped playing music videos , which isn’t true , or why Saturday morning cartoons went away , which isn’t true … everyone grew up and stuff ain’t for your generation anymore , get over it
Stop please it looks for kids Star Wars is for kids this show has nothing to do with other shows and it shouldnt The movies are coming Mandalorian Grogu Heir to Empire nobody said this is one Mandalorian Ashoka Andor all good Dont over analize
Nah, that is what you would like to do and I said in the trailer that it looks like a fun advernture just doesn't feel like a Star Wars story to me .But glad it does for you. I promise,it is ok if someone doesn't like what you do. It is gonna be ok.
If it came out after Andor I don't think anyone would give it a second thought. Likewise, if Acolyte had been a hit would we even be having this conversation? That said, I'll watch it for Jude Law.
Totaly agree, look dépressive and Nevers happy...when i watch thé trailer i was smiling and happy to see the content with my kids , star wars is made for that.
The stupidity with the complaining here is that John Williams himself used real world Brazilian music on the movies..."Aquarela do Brasil" features in Canto Bight. But apparently it doesn't matter to people if they don't know the original song.
This Show skeleton crew will not move any person who hate the trailers, but any other people like me will enjoy this movie and enjoy a bit of fun and kids adventures.
It looks like a fun mix of The Goonies & The Last Starfighter. I will give it a shot and if I continue to watch it after episode 3? That will be a good sign that I'm enjoying the show.
Strong disagree. This is EXACTLY what Star Wars should be doing. If anything, the loudest fans have been saying 'we need to get away from the Skywalkers' with the idea that Star Wars created such a vast universe that's been largely unexplored, sticking to characters and lore that people have (justifiably) loved for nearly 50 years. BUT part of the reason it caught on is that it felt like a lived-in, real galaxy, most of which has been unexplored. Good stories told in said galaxy will take off. The Acolyte tried it, but The Acolyte had the disadvantage of being awful. The Rey movie could have worked if JJ Abrams didn't ruin all the interesting things TLJ did (come at me), and would probably be a worse move for Disney Star Wars than a fun, kid-friendly series. Remember, Star Wars is supposed to be fun for kids, not a bunch of deep lore-dives for 40-year old nerds.
I've liked the trailers of most of the Star Wars shows, and only The Mandalorian and Andor are the only ones I've thought were good shows. I'll give it a try, but I'm not really excited for it.
This show looks like a blast! I’m glad Star Wars isn’t just one thing. Sure, some of its ass on bread, but there’s something for everyone. This looks like a fun way to get kids into the live action side of Star Wars.
@ Do you know how to comprehensively read? I mean that I’m glad everything isn’t the same exact tone. There can be a little bit of something for everyone.
The earth like suburbs & paved asphalt roads make it really hard for me to suspend disbelief. Though, I admit that I would have liked this as a child. So, if people ant this, then let them enjoy it I guess:)
I will always remember the initial negativity for Star Wars The Clone Wars series and the hate for that ridiculous 3 episode "film" they released. All the hate for Ahsoka in the beginning and how against the show so many people were. But that entire series is now looked at fondly with character redemptions and lore corrections abound. I don't understand why people keep hating something for it trying to be different before it has even started. I am looking forward to it to watch with my kid and my wife who loved Goonies (me, it was ok, but I get the appeal).
I like a bit of a variety. Of all the content, Rogue One and Andor was probably at the bottom of the list for most people. They largely steered clear of the traditional Star Wars ideas and, ended up becoming probably the best things we've had since the takeover. It's the shows that stayed in the more traditional sphere of Star Wars that have been struggling. Obviously those shows need to be Executed better but, the way I see it, why not try to move beyond those stories. And like a lot of people have said, it's a vast Galaxy with lots of varied ways of life. I hope to see more Conventional stories in the future with a slightly more sophisticated tone but, right now I'm glad to see more unique (for Star Wars at least) stories, characters and settings.
I really hope Kristian is wrong, and this show is exactly what Star Wars needs right now. And you know who also hopes Kristian is wrong…Kristian! Will this unite all fans, no of course not, but I just hope this is a win and not another loss.
I totally agree with you, Kristian. This show is probably not meant for me as an old school - original trilogy - 44 year old Star Wars fan, but I will still watch it and who knows I might enjoy it. I do love the song though - Major Tom - which is an 80's classic, but it feels really weird in this trailer or the Star Wars universe to begin with.
I think something that feels 100% unique and not like Star Wars is something Star Wars needs right now. Also, if The Old Man is any indication of John Watts storytelling abilities on TV. I don’t think there’s anything to worry about.
The Ferris Bueller line at the very beginning completely took me out of the trailer. Why does Lucasfilm want me to think of other movies as I watch SW?
“Don’t give up”
Kristian: I’m not. I’ve been watching every show, I’m trying

If I were still 11, I’d be super excited for this.
I was 10 in 1978.
Lets go!
Haha😂 2:24 "I've been watching every show, I'm trying."
Color me intrigued
When I watched the trailer, I knew you wouldn't dig the music, which I didn't think worked for the trailer, but the music aside it looked good. The Mandoverse which this is part of is FUN, and that is what I want - A Fun Show!
I love the vibes & music
It saddened me seeing people complaining about "real world music in SW". Just remembering that John Williams himself used Brazilian music on Canto Bight... It's called "Aquarela do Brasil". Guess people don't care if they don't know it?
this is the only star wars property my 10yr old has ever been interested in watching so thats a win for me lol
it's too cute!!
We need kids to rengage with Star Wars and this looks like it might be just the ticket
Stranger thing managed to do it however so who knows
hahahaha no
You can see the lack of interest in harloff's face lol
Goonies with Guardians with Star Wars pixie dust
It looks like it might be a fun series.
Looks OK for kids. They will probably love it.
It's a kids show, prolly not a show for this guy.
I'm actually excited to see which way they go with it and it's the first Star wars show in awhile my son said to me that it actually looks good and wants to watch it
Completely disagree that this doesn't feel like Star Wars. It's a perfect blend of star wars and amblin. Looks fun as hell.

Yeah, looks good, I'll watch it all, hopefully it don't suck.
Gotta be honest, I always had a soft spot for Major Tom so I cant hate on the music. And in "hut" no less, color me impressed.
When people complain about a music in a trailer u know people will complain about anything never happy but it’s just my opinion
Star Wars needs a new identity
I just hope it’s fun, well done and a good show. Don’t care if it’s for adults or kids, I just want a good Star Wars show
I will always love Star Wars. Skeleton Crew won't be for me, but I will look forward to the next project.
It looks like a fun mix of The Goonies & The Last Starfighter. I will give it a shot and if I continue to watch it after episode 3? That will be a good sign that I'm enjoying the show.
I'm curious. It might be awesome. It might be terrible. But you can't tell this early. But I have some hope.
Idk man this just looks so fun and exciting to me. This is the first Star Wars show outside of Andor that I’m actually excited about.
This looks interesting to solid.
I thought it was a brilliant trailer. I'll be tuning in for sure.
hahahahaha
This look good I’m checking it when it comes out
I've liked the trailers of most of the Star Wars shows, and only The Mandalorian and Andor are the only ones I've thought were good shows. I'll give it a try, but I'm not really excited for it.
This show looks like a blast! I’m glad Star Wars isn’t just one thing. Sure, some of its ass on bread, but there’s something for everyone. This looks like a fun way to get kids into the live action side of Star Wars.
Star Wars is not about a war? Lol
@ Do you know how to comprehensively read? I mean that I’m glad everything isn’t the same exact tone. There can be a little bit of something for everyone.
@ You can’t even get the title of the franchise right when there is NO War. Lol People watch Star Trek cause nobody goes on a long journey in space.
Loved S1 + S2 Mando.
Even greater love for Andor.
Ahsoka was 50/50
Acolyte was straight up bad.
But Skeleton Crew looks really great.
Lets give it a shot i felt the same about marvel when they were putting agatha out but i was so pleasantly surprised im hoping the same for this
2:18 - 2:26
lmao
The earth like suburbs & paved asphalt roads make it really hard for me to suspend disbelief. Though, I admit that I would have liked this as a child. So, if people ant this, then let them enjoy it I guess:)
Kiddie movie,we will see .
I miss Grogu😢
My Number 1 Star War's Guy to Go too🎉🎉🎉🎉
I’m not sure if I would be watching this if I didn’t have kids. Since we will be watching it I hope it is good.
This is for everyone not just kids same thing with animation u don’t have to be a kid to enjoy this
DON'T GIVE UP
"I'm not. I've been watching every show, I'm trying"
😂😂😂😂
Goonies......In SPAAAAAAAAAAACE!!!!!!
It might just be my opinion but I think you gotta 100%go into this one with the lense that this is a kids show. But thats just me.
I remember the song used from the 80s ..Major Tom (Coming Home) by Peter Schilling ...it was cheesy then ...my opinion hasn't changed.
I don’t think there’s anything to worry about.
hahhahaah horrible take, nothing Disney has made feels like Star Wars
The Ferris Bueller line at the very beginning completely took me out of the trailer. Why does Lucasfilm want me to think of other movies as I watch SW?
