This was a huge girls movie when it came out. Lot's of girls had crushes on Kevin Kostner, you should ask your mother if she has seen the movie with your dad when they where young.
My little brother and I to this day say "Because it's dull, you twit! It'll hurt more!" When one of us asks an obvious question of the other. Usually the phrase is enough that we answer the question ourselves, so it works for us. XD
As a Nottingham born boy myself, I'm sure this man will always be known as creating the best Sheriff of any Robin Hood movie. Poor Alan, you were awesome.
This was actually, honest to god, improvised! Apparently, Alan Rickman reeeeally disliked the script....and not only improvised a lot of the best lines, but also secretly met with 2 comedic writers and had them help "punch up" the script, specifically his lines. Without Alan Rickman's wit & active interference with the film production, we would not have this amazing performance - and the movie would suck. There was fighting among the producers of course, about everything including Alan Rickman's performance, his scenes, and how he was stealing the spotlight from Costner...but Alan Rickman went on to win awards for his performance so suck it! I'm glad that Kevin Reynolds (director) at least fought against cutting all of it and helped secretly change stuff. The production of this whole movie was a mess (even messier than the final product - this amazing film I love til this day lol); it's crazy to read about. (Definitely always watch the release that's the extended/full cut of the film. It includes scenes & lines that were originally cut out, including important for the plot!)
The juxtaposition of Costner's (lack-of) English accent compared with everyone else in this film was always funny to me. I think "Robin Hood: Men in Tights" touched on that fact.
Supposedly, rumors has it, that Alan was so good at his role that the director cut off much of his material. Didn't want to diminish Costner's rising star..
That was the very moment I fell in love with Alan. Not like I wanna marry you - I was just a little girl back then (7 or 8 at the most) - but a I love your acting. I was rewatching galaxy quest when my sister called on me and told me he had passed away. I was so sad. May he rest in peace.
What's great about this too is that I think a good 20 minutes passes between the two scenes and it picks up with the "why a spoon?" the very next time we see these two on screen again.
@@tanyawieczorek6603 There is indeed a special edition. I doubt the length of time between the two scenes is twenty minutes though. But probably longer than four, at least.

Alan Rickman specifically wanted it in his contract that director will say nothing about his performance beyond what is in the script. He must have had lots of hamsteam to vent.

my dad has been consistently misquoting this for so long, we know its wrong we found out a couple years when we rewatched the movie but its too ingrained in our brains to change it. "but why a spoon my lord, so it'll huuurt more." its been like 10 years of this everytime we get a spoon or asked to hand someone a spoon. wouldn't change it for the world. I just dread the day he wont be able to misquote it.
This is my fave Robinhood movie, Allen did SUCH a good job playing up the deranged side of the Sherrif Also I feel like these lines about spoons is improve, it such a random thing to keep going. And if it is Improv Costner didn't miss a beat with that follow up line and I love it
Best version is from Nickolas Grace in Robin of Sherwood. He shows sheriff as overworked, stressed official who has so much work on his table he just can't relax.
I thought that it was hilarious at the time. A long time later my cousin demonstrated how to open a can with a spoon and then I realized holysyet that threat is actually a legit one... 😱😱💀💀💀
@@ValterFrey He did not invent Sheriff of Nottingham being high-strung. Robin of Sherwood (British TV-series and really good) had such Sheriff overworked official and he provides lots of fun.

For a guy who got his first role at tender age of 42 he had magnificent career. This performance proves that Villain can save a movie.
+Tel LeSalter Yeah, Die Hard was his first movie role. Probably the greatest first role performance ever.
You're talking about movies. He had a long career on stage beforehand.
he actually rewrote the script to give himself better lines
Kevin Costner cut some of his scenes cause he was jealous 😂
the movie was fantastic Alan was fantastic but so was Costner and the other actors/actresses I thinkFriar was and still is a great character LOL
Still one of the most memorable lines from any movie I have ever seen. Alan Rickman was and will forever be, my favourite bad guy actor.
it was epic! I reference this line on the regular!
@@NJongebloed so do i... thank god i got this video to show as refernce...🤣
I like as well how Guy is slow to realize why he said he would cut out his heart with a spoon, and the Sherriff's comeback is so fierce.

He's one of my favourite actors, period. His 'good guy' performance as Metatron in Dogma was _
