Great bike! I have a 2021 model, had buyers remorse in the beginning. I have a ‘95 Giant Allegre road bike and I love how fast I can go with that. With much more seat time, I can say that the Roam is much more comfortable and I can effortlessly hit 25 mph and has more to give. With the Roam, I can definitely explore more trails and go further on gravel.
I have a roam 4. I take it on some pretty gnarley trails. Of course i have a few upgrades, upgraded air fork, handle bars, 1x7 gearset, 700x50 offroad tires, cloud 9 seat.
I have an earlier Giant Seek 0 that I like so much and currently upgraded with an Alfine 11 speed, SLR Contact cockpit seatpost and saddle, Magura MT4 Storm SL brakes, XTR Trail pedals, DT Swiss R500 Rims, Hutchinson Overide 38mm, all bolts / nuts / front skewer etc are titanium . I built the front wheel with a Shimano DH-UR700-3D and use Supernova lights. It is my favourite bike and bought it in 2012.
Esta es una maravillosa bicicleta, he hecho MTB con esta super bike, muy comoda y de excelente diseño, llama la atención por su acabado en pintura!!! me encanta mi bike.
they are both nice with same Deore set. I chose Roam 2 because price was right [current] and all the cable is not just internally routed but also protected by cable sleeve with no exposed "section" to protect from road dirts/mud/water/etc. also Roam with split top tube and seat stay makes it little more "modern" but if it wasn't for the label, most people won't know the differences. I also had Sirrus X on the shopping list but I wanted something with the front suspension. Quick CX 1 is another good option but I already have a Quick 1 so Roam was perfect for my need in the price range I was willing to spend for this third bike. Maybe James can compare all four bikes in side by side comparison?
I found a giant roam in a recycle shop and paid 30dollar to own it i will repair free hub which is damaged waiting my parts to arrive to enjoy this bike in summer 🤪
recently picked up Roam2 replacing Talon1. Roam2 has 1x10 Deore and it works flawlessly and gears have enough range to clime hills and fast enough on flats and declines. seems to be little lighter than other entry level dual purpose bikes? Giant oem seats have come a long way and it's actually some what decently comfortable even after two hours of use.
@@ProdigiousReturn all three of these bikes are virtually identical with little variations like tire width shock size and etc. I don't have the Roam anymore but it was a good overall bike with fender, pedal, and rack installed. Cypress is more even upright than the Roam so the choice is yours. But for same price, I will opt for Roam since it comes with Deore and not Advent in Cypress. I now have Trek District 4 and I love it since there is nothing to maintain in regards to chain/shift/cassette/etc. District 4 came with everything I need right out of the box saving me lot of time and custom fitting each afterwards.
What do you think about buying this bike to use it for bikepacking/tourism? I'm looking for a gravel, but I don't want to spend a lot of money now, and as this one (2021 model) is about USD400 in my country, I thought of buying it and in the future "gravelize" it maybe, or just changing the chaindrive to a SLX or XT, or maybe a 105 or GRX. What do you think?
Considering this in the UK against a Trek DS 2. The Giant is a little cheaper at around £480 compared to £490+ for the Trek (many UK bike stores have just ended sales with upto 25% off!). The comment about the 'D' seat post has made me think though if in future, you couldnt get a suspension seat post!
My roam 2 from 2011 has rim brakes. They consistently lock up the wheel. Why do I need hydraulic disc brakes to lock up the wheel that much better? Kind of confused by what is marketing and what is actually useful on bikes...
You dont brake \ stop quicker if the wheel is locked. That why cars have abs so there's maximum braking efficiency without locking up wheels. Bikes dont have abs yet but, hydraulic brakes give better braking especially in wet weather compared to rim brakes.
Now that's a PRACTICAL Rig. Getting very irksome with reviewers of mountain bikes, that proclaim brands that, "Only cost $7000." I guess spending a whopping amount like $500, or a little more is considered laughable by most whom view bike reviews on UA-cam.Then again, those that spend thousands on a bicycle, need therapy.
Have it. Love it. Own it, good bike!
Just bought this one today and took it for a spin, tremendous bike!
Sweet
These are really cool bikes, great for urban assault rides, gravel, road & smooth single track, a jack of all trades & very comfortable too!
I have this bike. Absolutely fantastic bike.

I can't even go 25mph with my 20.5 Lb Giant Fastroad Advance 1.
Yeah sure buddy
@@jeffreykaufmann2867so you don't believe him ? why ?
@george-danfulger The Roam isn't a high speed bike.
I love giant bikes ❤️
Great video, that phantom green color looks amazing; I'm thinking on getting one since my last Roam 2 was stolen a few weeks ago :(

Can I get specifics on your upgrades, I’m wanting to do the same to my Roam 4
Yeah if you could share the details that would be awesome

Hello!
What do you think its a best option between a Trek Dual Sport 3 and the Giant Roam 2 ? both 2022 models
they are both nice with same Deore set. Would you recommend this or the Trek Dual Sport or Verve compared to this?

Nice clear concise review. Thanks.
I have the 2019 version of this model with rim brakes. I changed the 38c tyres to 32c road tyres.
You doing mostly on road stuff?
@@bobbyjoesugar I use it for the road, suspension smoothes out the bumps.
Looking at getting one of these bikes and changing out the tires for a little smaller, but still a hybrid. Are you happy with doing that?

Deore equiped trekking bike isn't an entry level by today standards😁
How do you like the roam compared to the talon? My dad has a talon I’ve been thinking of replacing with a roam or cypress

novice, looking to get a bike and I'm debating between the roam 3/cypress 2...what is the main difference?
I am wondering same

The current Roam 1 (2024) has an 11x39 cassette - which will give far more flexibility in terrain that it can tackle.

I bought Roam 0 couple of months ago and the D-Fuse post is one of my biggest gripes with it. Excellent bike though
Excellent quality and value
I would like to see a roam vs escape video. Which one is faster??
I've just ordered this bike. Does anyone add the fenders or are they just not necessary? I've seen poor reviews on the giant fenders.
Nice! Reminds me of a lighter and faster Trek Verve!
With the suspension fork I’d probably see this as a competitor to the Trek Dual Sport rather than the Verve.
Very nice. Basically a gravel bike then?
Hello, would you happen to know the size of headset that will fit this bike?
I'm not sure if i should get a Giant Talon 1 or 2,or a Giant Roam 1 or 2?
So would I be able to replace the seat with a padded one?
Does anyone know what type or size the caged bearing is at the lower headtube for roam disc 3 2023?
Now i'm tossing up between a Giant Roam or a Giant Escape?
Please do review on liv rove 4
Very good bike for a fair price.
The D fuse Seat Post doesn't even bend otherwise you would have bent it. I should know cause I have the Giant Fastroad.
Huh?
@@Jamesthebikeguy The D fuse Seat Post is suppose to bend when hitting bumps on that street. It doesn't.
Are the tektro brakes steel or aluminum?
I have this bike and planning to upgrade the head set. Any idea what size is it?
Hello, were you able to upgrade the headset of your bike?
Been looking for the correct size as well
Is this equivalent to Treks dual sport 2?
Yep
@@Jamesthebikeguy which one is the better all around bike between the two?
Anybody put a dropper post on there’s? Is it dropper ready?
What are your thoughts about roam 4 , 2022 ????

are those tires actually Giant CrossCut?!
You're actually really funny
i have MTB pacific montero 4.0
Why don't they make Carbon Bikes with Front Suspension?
They do but they are MTB.
@@Jamesthebikeguy I own a 20.5 Lb Carbon Hybrid from Giant. How fast can one go on such a bike? So far 39.7kph is my Max.
Ya see it cant do down a downhill track but an enduro bike can and you could commute on a enduro bike so technicaly the enduro bike could do more
Yeah except ride comfortably in the city or long term pedaling... You could take this down a downhill track but likewise, it wouldn't be comfortable.
Nice
the seatpost foolery is a deal breaker for me
