If you want to get the tube support 'thing' out of the end of the braided hose to reuse, cut off an inch of hose, remove olive then heat the little piece of hose over a flame. This will soften the hose inner and the tube support will come out easier. You're welcome!
Yes I also liked that tip about rolling the diaphragm into the oil. Done this a good few times and not thought about doing that. Now got to do a search on cutting the wire braid type hose. Last time I did it with a diamond cutting disc in a Dremel. I will try holding the wires with a tight tie wrap, unless I find a better way on the web. Shame that Hope videos seem to have gone from where they were posted
Is there any qualified service shop in southern CA who can work on Hope brakes? I live at the beach and am not a mechanic myself. I have no place to do any kind of mechanical work or tools, and the bike shops at the beach don't know squat about mountain bike brakes, because they don't sell them here. And even if they did, they would only sell shimano.
Yeah, except the olive will have dug into the plastic covering, so sliding the olive will most likely cause it to go under the clear sheath. Best to cut the hose, remove olive and insert. Fit a new olive or open up the existing one carefully. If it is difficult to slide it on you can trim the sheath and braid a little or cut the hose at 45 degrees, fit olive and cut the end as normal.
Great video. Seems simple enough - apart from 'peel the brass insert out' - it doesn't come out of mine. All that happened eventually after much use of screwdriver like the video was that the inner part of the hose has come out 1.5 inches. Presumably in doing so the inner is now detached from the other end of the hose where it inserts into the brake caliper, so my brakes are now ruined. These things are not always as simple. I've tried everything to remove the brass insert. Anyone know how?
Some air will get in. I just did one of my brakes and it seems to be working without bleeding, but it's brakes and therefore very safety critical. So don't take chances :)

I tried various ways and what worked was normal side cutters. Not ideal as they flatten the hose end, but that just needs a squeeze with pliers.
A little note - braided is slightly different, you need to cut back the sheathing first, then wiggle the olive onto the braided section.

Your comment is shitty, which is probably why you didn't get a response. ;-)
nice one.. good video.. I'm off to fuck up my V2's ...!
Great video, very helpful. Thanks.
If i do it with the back wheel still on do i need to change the position of the pads , should they be on the rim or just normal
Can you also "re-use" the parts on the other side of the hose when you want to replace the entire hose? Or just at the lever side...?

Is it the same with braided hose?

hello, does anyone know the size of the old m4 brake hose as i bought some 5mm replacement hose and its way to small.

So if the brakes are new and all that is needed is to shorten the brake hose, do you still have to bleed after? They come pre-bled.

Would be better if you filmed what was happening, rather than this guys face!
