Excellent tutorial. I bought a new keyboard from Amazon for about $15, followed the instructions in the video and everything works well. So much better than paying the computer repair store $100 just to look at my computer. One caution note! Those little screws are REALLY little; so if you have stubby fingers, make sure you have a well-lit work space and somewhere to put the little screws.

Thanks for the refresher. This was slightly easier than replacing the keys on my Inspiron 1525. I thought there was something seriously wrong while I was doing this repair, because the keyboard would not come out once everything was unscrewed. Turns out it was just cemented down in place from the owner spilling sodas on the keyboard. Yuck! (On a side note I suspect the one person who dislikes this video is Michael Dell)

Sometimes the screws can be really stiff. Make sure you are using the correct size screw driver and apply extra downward pressure while unscrewing them to get them to loosen up.
Really great clear video.worked well. Replacing the ribbon cable was the only bit I found a bit tricky but managed it by freezing the video at that point. Thanks.
Thanks so much for this! I'm typing this on my new keyboard. My "s" key started to become unresponsive until it finally died completely. I had resorted to using ctrl+c/v to write an "s" until my "d" key failed as well. The ribbon cable on the new keyboard is not bent. This makes it kind of tricky to hold in place while you flip the latch over top of it. I followed the directions and the keyboard didn't work. After opening it up again and reseating it, it works great!
Thanks for the video! It's very informative. I saw another video and was wondering why you have to remove the screws where the battery is. Glad you explained it in your video. My keyboard broke so I'm hoping to replace it as soon as my replacement keyboard arrives. This saves me however much Dell would charge me if I were to send it to them.
Thanks for the video. I hope more people find this and give it a shot on their own. Just for giggles I called best buy to ask about having them replace my keyboard and they quoted me around 150 dollars for a keyboard replacement!!!! What a joke! I truly think my wife could have done this herself.

Hi I want to replace the keyboard for my dell inspiron 1545. However, I found that if I use a phillips screwdriver, the screws at the back of the laptop (below the battery area) don't move. Please help me with this.

When I've had that problem I would use an electric screwdriver and a lot of downward pressure. They usually break free with a lot of pressure.
Im sure its a silly question but, is static discharge dangerous for the laptop?

No, notebooks and laptops are the same, just different terminology. The 1545 has only one size keyboard.

No, I would assume not. I've never tried but I would guess the cables and screw locations will be different.
