I'm from Manipur, me and my friends stay in Ghatkopar so we never see northeast people in our area. When we heard about Kalina and went there to explore, we were so happy to see northeast faces there after such a long time. The first northeast shop we found, we went inside, filled with joy to see all those goodies and ready to buy as much as we could until the owners of the shop started talking shit about us in their language. We could understand since they started swearing in meiteilon intentionally. You are right about the sense of belongingness we feel when we enter these northeast areas and shop but the moment those people in that particular shop (it was near the mosque) started mocking us, we immediately started feeling unsafe and uncomfortable even tho they treated us very very rudely we still talked to them normally, smiled and thank them for the regional goodies regardless we were just too happy that we found our people there. In overwhelming big city like Mumbai, the sense of belonging and community is so important and it's painful when that connection is met with negativity instead of the warmth we were seeking.

I know Nothing beats the feeling of meeting people from our home state after living alone for a long time. But i am sorry to hear that you had a horrible experience despite your positive approach. Ive been to Kalina only once and If i remember correctly, i also went to the shop next to the Mosque. But i had a good experience. Hope you find it better the next time you go.

It would have been more help if We could get the correct location like how to reach from local station or by road so that not only nearby area but also people like us living in South mumbai can visit the shop which i guess will delfinetly help to attract more customers and good for her business. Govt should pour money in east( except tamil nadu) side of india The east west gap is huge in india . Investing in east india would stop over migration from those areas, so that city wont cramped up.

Please leave North east states, goa, himachal Their state population is even lower than tier 2 cities in india. Little bit migrant influx would change the parameter of whole state like tripura. Even so many foreigners live in cities like delhi, mumbai or banglaore , hence what's the problem with small no of students or it professionals from NE. and they don't come in huge as a laborers here compared to benglais or biharis . Biharis and bengalis should only migrate to those state which already have good population so that they won't change the demographics there. The combine population of bengalis and biharis could make upto population of US lol.
