Roger Federer's prime started in 2003 and lasted through 2009. That's seven years where he won 15 major titles. In 2010 he won the Australian Open where he played incredible tennis. The Australian Open 2010 was the last major of Federer's prime. After that tournament he started a very slow decline which saw Federer lose some foot speed and more importantly mental confidence and toughness in the biggest and most crucial moments of tennis matches. During this time of Federer's decline was also the rise of Novak Djokovic coming into his prime years. They are exactly six years apart which makes a big difference in tennis. Novak Djokovic is going to be remembered as the most successful tennis player that has ever played the sport. He's got the most major titles, the most weeks ranked #1, the most year end #1's, tied with Federer for most Masters Cup titles, has the most Masters 1000 titles, and has won the Djoker Slam in 2016 where he won FOUR major titles in a row. He's also won three of the four majors in a year for a record 4 different years (2011, 2015, 2021, 2023) which might be the most unbelievable stat in all of his records. Roger won three of the four major titles 3 different years (2004, 2006, 2007) and also won the Masters Cup in all of those years. These two guys in my opinion are the top two Greatest Players of All Time with Rafa coming in right behind them at #3. However, if Rafa can come back in 2024 and win a major or two then I'd put him above Federer at #2. As for now though my list looks like this. 1. Memorable that unknown old Nole's jumpy&untidy&very high takeback forehand. Also that old & inefficient low late elbow in his 1st serve was a usual 40% or less in average by those days until 2011 approx. What a long way he had to improve then and boy did he do in a couple, maybe three of years later. Instead Roger already has the game and changeg basically his fh takeback by shortening it. The other major one was his neo backhand, a pity that only lasted for a 1/2 year in 2017.
I'm not a "tennis tragic" but I always felt that R.F. was both gracious and humbling, on and off the court. I can't express the the same sentiments about Mr N. Djokovich.
Is no one going to mention how this was the exact same score of the Wimbledon semi final between Djokovic and Shapovalov? Edit: Also, the points won is very close between both matches.
I remember watching this match thinking it was a slam dunk that Federer would win his 6th straight US Open title. Hard to believe that not only did he lose in the Final but also would never even win another US Open.
Against such a in the dawn of strength and energy, a fast, attacking Federer who set the pace of attacks, Djokovic had almost no chances, even the optimal Djokovic in his best form. We can see perfectly well that in this match everything depended on Roger, whether he would hit or make a mistake, if Roger hit from the 1st ball, the result was almost a foregone conclusion. Djokovic looked like an extra here. Djokovic turned the situation around only after 2010, when Roger began to give up due to age, and lost noticeably in speed, the pace of his attacks noticeably decreased, this was evident even in the memorable match of Wimbledon 2019. Unfortunately, this was not the same Roger Federer as before, with his lightning attacks.
Actually this match proves federers prime was not scary at all, Novak was a very different player then, 1- his serve was so so bad, 2- He went for uncalculated winners for no reasons, 3- he gets tired easily and breathing issues even the commentators say it in this match. 4- many easy unforced errors and free points for federer.
Djokovic doesn't grunt in this match. Later in his career he started doing that. So he's capable to play without grunting, so he's using grunting as a way to cheat!!
He can easily outplay that Roger, he has proven himself in the golden era you should be worried about your guy who didn't face such high level competition in his prime

Most people that know about tennis, would agree if both guys were the same age , in their prime, and have their 'A" g that day...Fed wins more. And even Novak would agree!!
djokovic will end up with the most titles, and most records due to his longevity, but Federer during his prime was the best tennis the sport has ever seen imo. Federer was mesmerizing to watch with all the angles, and impossible shots. Most skilled tennis player of all time...
Roger Federer ❤❤❤
Hahahahaa all of you talking about Fed prime have absolutely no idea! He said himself that 3 of them pushed each other to be better and better and that he played his best tennis in 2010s.
Prime is not when you’re winning but when you play your best! Nole beat both Nadal and Federer and his prime was in either 2011 or 2015.
But you keep on talking about prime Fed beating 3rd lvl players 😅 Fed won 9 of his 20 slams in the pre-Big3 era!
djokovic serve its a nightmare, it takes too long
Where was this level of confidence, aggressiveness, and determination against Djokovic in the last 3 Wimbledon finals? Unfortunately, this free-flowing and prime Federer was no longer there when they faced off in the finals
djokovic broke federer
Federer scored a twinner against Djokovic , it remains in history
A quick Premier this one
Usually the wait is more than 3 days
THE KING
One of the last times Roger won vs Novak on GS
Semifinal Wibledon 2012.Last time.
rolland garros 2011 (very important victory, that ends with Nole's streak , from the start of that year he went undefeated until that match) and wimbledon 2012
@@cidblade Important only for Nadal who would suffer another loss from Novak. That wasn't stop Novak and wasn't help Roger to win vs Nadal at RG.
I don't know if Roger can be termed #1 by statistics, but he will definitely remain as #1 in people's hearts. Forever.
What people? In millions of hearts Djoko is number one!
@@TheNoJoke777 someone who has been playing all his life against the crowd is in everyone's hearts 😂 yeah right 😂
Against what crowd? Western crowd? Fedtard crowd at WMB? That just makes his legacy even greater!
As said, Djoko is in our hearts, millions of hearts!
What you frustrated haters think is irrelevant!
You’re just another “finger lady” at that WMB match point. I’m sorry for your life..
Djokovic actually bouncing the ball less and service ritual much more faster compared to now
38:17 👏👏👏
Legend match
Nice clever shot love it ❤
This Djokovic has some potential. I bet he will win some Grand Slams.
Even in the beginning. Djokovic was a class act in defeat.
I'm not a "tennis tragic" but I always felt that R.F. was both gracious and humbling, on and off the court. I can't express the the same sentiments about Mr N. Djokovich.
No, rf is a sore loser watch his inter views after loss to novak dj
Cant believe its 2023 and Djokovic still plays at the highest level. Absolutely ridiculous
Djokovic will always be remembered for that tweener
and for three 15-40 wins down match point as well, I suppose :)
P Please don’t spoil the result with the thumbnail
Que increíble!!
Is no one going to mention how this was the exact same score of the Wimbledon semi final between Djokovic and Shapovalov?
Edit: Also, the points won is very close between both matches.
That is true
Proves that not all straight-set matches are one-sided
I remember watching this match thinking it was a slam dunk that Federer would win his 6th straight US Open title. Hard to believe that not only did he lose in the Final but also would never even win another US Open.
avait vous des finales de lus open en francais comme celle que federer gagne de 2004 a 2008 et celle de djokovic en 2011 ?
Thrilling!
I ❤ federer
Best part of the match starts at 1:16:46

2:02:40 crazy
Terrible commentators... jeez
Beautiful.
Can't believe this orange tshirt kid will go on to win 21 grandslam titles
Yeah..
24 now 😊
Really difficult to believe that Federer never won against Novak after this meeting in slams on hard courts. That too in 6 meetings!😮
2:02:30
When nole was fast to serve !
Actually this match proves federers prime was not scary at all,
Novak was a very different player then, 1- his serve was so so bad,
2- He went for uncalculated winners for no reasons, 3- he gets tired easily and breathing issues even the commentators say it in this match.
4- many easy unforced errors and free points for federer.
just with the before last point best of all the time who is the goat ????federer
36:30 WINNER
Stunning match!!!
Novak got a lot of flack for his antics around this time. Still feel he was almost always gracious in defeat
What he can do in spurts now he used to do at will in his prime.
Federer que grande
FEDERER 😍 FOREVER
2:02:24 legend
Djokovic doesn't grunt in this match. Later in his career he started doing that. So he's capable to play without grunting, so he's using grunting as a way to cheat!!
فعلا مايسترو ختامها مسك
Funny you have to go back 15 years to see Federer won in US open
2-9 slams post-'11 against you-know-who!
who all have come here only to watch tweener primarily from GOAT ??
I think djokovic has been great but he doesn't touch prime federer no way
He can easily outplay that Roger, he has proven himself in the golden era you should be worried about your guy who didn't face such high level competition in his prime
Novak's serve is so different these days. It's what's allowed him to win all these slams. Completed his game
is it just me or are the line judges against Novak for this one?
DJOKOVIC IS THE GOAT
no comparison
Adam Lavigne play tennis before?
조코는 공을 너무 많이 튕긴다. 정말 짜증난다.
Worthless win in this match as long as it was concluded by a defeat.
Jelena is so cute
Those line judges are jobless now, terrible calls.
