I'm thrilled!! I watched the video and then went to work. I used a sturdy ladder for stability and changed the lifts on my vehicle in less than five minutes. All by myself.
great video, takes 5 minutes.
My Dad is elderly and the Dealer told him 200.00 to replace the struts on his 2010 Taurus. I got on Amazon and ordered from Lift Support Depot and got them in 2 days. It took under one minute to install both struts. Now his trunk is good as new and he is only out a small amount for the 2 struts. Thank You Lift Support Depot. PS the dealer hates you!
Great video. This is incredible customer service. I didn't expect this when I ordered lift supports from you. I can't tell you what a pleasant surprise it was to get an email with link to this video as part of the confirmation to my order.
I bought a lift support by ARANA Auto. Despite the installation instructions,
But I hate it without any experience and can only pass the text manual. After watching this video, I was able to install these lift supports in less than five minutes, I feel like a super women. Thank you so much for this video!
Lift support I got was for a Jeep Cherokee and was exactly as the original equipment, which to install uses a curved wire you need to rotate and take it out of the ball connector, install it and then reinsert the wire and turned to keep the ball from getting out of the support.
The reason that they should be installed with the shaft portion facing DOWN is so that oil will be kept in constant contact with the seals at all time. Similar to why wine bottles should be stored sideways. Lubrication on the cork of the wine bottles as well as the rubber seals on these support struts will help them last longer and keep them from drying out.
Originally I assumed that having less weight on the tailgate was better, as in having the shaft facing UP. But the weight difference is negligible, and ensuring that the seals do not dry out is much more important.
Thank you!!! This was the easiest car repair I have ever done. And, I saved hundreds of $$$$$$ doing it myself. The best part is that my wife is real happy (wink, wink).
Well, she was surely a sweet treat. OMG!!
Good video too. Thanks. Placing my order now ...
thank you for the video, waiting on supports for my 95 camaro now. This is going to be a great help. thats so cool of you to send this video
Rarely, does any domestic job go as smoothly as advertised for me. As such, I rarely attempt doing anything on my own. Go ahead and call me lazy. But today, I replaced the lift supports on my 2005 Nissan Pathfinder Liftgate in minutes. With a helper, we didn't even need the stepladder. This job made not only my day, but probably my whole month.
Haha! Congrats, wish me luck!
Thank you! the hatch struts on my 2014 rogue went...dealer wants 600 bucks to replace!
It took me less than 5 minutes to install these supports. Not sure how much I saved...but 'm sure it was a lot. Had no idea a car repair could be so easy!
Thanks for emailing me this video, Lift Supports Depot.
(Though rather than remove both at once, I'll do one at a time. I've always felt it's good, if you get confused (which I don't think will happen with this simple procedure) to have something to reference that's still in the correct alignment.)
Thank you. Very clear and informative
I ordered the parts online($48), I watched the video- My brother held the lift gate while I installed the parts. Felt so empowered. Thanks for posting the video.
Installed a StrongArm model 6121 on the rear hatch of a 2004 Nissan Murano. Very easy to do...1 tip - attach the arm that needs rotating to the body of the car before trying to turn the head to meet the hatch's stud ball. Difficult to turn until it's attached to the car. Works great!
Just replaced the worn out struts on my 2007 Chevy Tahoe after watching this. The video was spot on and the job took less than 5 minutes. I should add that I can barely change a tire and the oil so my mechanical skills are very basic.
Nissan Murano 2006 - it is as easy as it looks. Had the wife hold the lift gate while I made the 5 minute switch and she said "that's it?".
Great Video. I was able to install the lift supports within 5 minutes. Thanks.
Great video. Paid to do some research for this fix. Local auto parts stores wanted ~$30+ for each strut (or $60+ for the pair). Found pair for ~$20 on Amazon. Observed that it was easy to replace per the video so I had my wife replace the pair while I help up the gate. Not only saved $40+ on parts cost but no telling what costs the mechanics would have charged.
I was shocked a how much of a difference these things made! Thanks Lift Supports Depot!
Thank you! This was very helpful.
Thanks for the video. I'd sure like to see more of that model! The original Nissan hood lifts in my Maxima were installed with the piston shafts up. I installed the new Strong Arms like the video, with the shafts down.
THANKS! This was exactly what I needed to see before installing these myself. It went without a hitch and took about five minutes.
Thank you! This was a really helpful video. It moves at just the right pace and shows all of the important steps. I was able to change my lift supports on the first try with no experience.
Thanks for this video. I knocked this out in 5 min. I ended up breaking the old ones off and then removing the little pieces that screw in. Then I put the new ones right back on.
This was an AWESOME tutorial! My son and I replaced the lift gate struts on my Saturn outlook with NO PROBLEM!
THANK YOU!
Great Tutorial, make me feel I have to do it by myself.
Good products. got in today, and watch video and go back outside and did in 5 min.
Toyota dealer quote to do this...$200 per hydraulic for parts plus $55 to install...so at least $455 (didn't stay on the phone long enough to find out if it was $55 per hydraulic to install or for both...probably each knowing them).
Received supports today and installed them on a 2009 Toyota Sienna in 5-10 minutes. They work perfectly. What a racket the car dealerships are running on replacing these...$40-45 verses the dealership's $455 min.
Installed within 30 minutes with zero experience even if 1/4 inch shorter than original lifts I didn’t call support.
I merely propped up hatch higher to attach to ball joint.
Wow, can't believe how easy this was and saved nearly $400
that was well explained.WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The supports came with U-shaped bands in a small plastic bag, but it is not really clear what to do with them, and the video does not say. The video shows them already installed in the strut, but how do you install them?
+1squit Thanks for the question, these are a different style support. The Clip you found is a safety clip for custom applications, please visit this link for more information. www.liftsupportsdepot.com/blog/2012/09/how-do-i-remove-the-external-safety-clip-from-my-lift-support#top
The bottom of the strut on my Lexus SC430 is about 6" inside the trunk mechanism and I can't reach it. Will have to take car to mechanic to put on strut.
THANKZ JESSICA!
Where do you get the person from....to hold the lift gate?? When it falls it falls lighting quick!!
Hi, very good helping-video, thank to sent me. I'm courious, i don't know what is doig the guy in the red-tshirt, is he supervising the job?
Alexander Serra Díaz the helper in the red shirt is there to hold the hatch for safety. It is best to have a helper hold the hatch. One can use the prop like a ladder (seen here) or a 2x4, but a second person is best.
Did the support arms backwards..thanks...I needed the help
Thanks for easy to follow video. Did not have another person to assist so I used ann 8 foot 2 x 4 to support door while changing struts. 5 minute job that saved hundreds.
How are they holding up?
WARNING!!
Don't ever try to install them yourself. I didn't have anyone to help me, so I yanked on the old lift support to remove it. With my other hand, I held the hatchback up. As soon as the lift was removed, the hatchback came crashing down. It was so fast and unexpected, and violent. The force with which it came down with was incredible. The hatchback is actually EXTREMELY heavy. The support smashed into the glass, causing it to shatter. To replace it is going to cost me $200. Had any part of my body been caught in between, or under the hatchback when it fell, I would have been SERIOUSLY injured.
+shinyam75 Did you have a ladder or anything under the support for safety?
nope
+shinyam75 Seriously? That's your own fault then.
+shinyam75 Most people can do this simple job. But, as you have so eloquently noted, not everyone can. Call a mechanic.
+shinyam75 Please don't tell people never to try to install these themselves. This is an item that can easily be repaired at home, saving owners a lot of money and a lot of inconvenience (tying their car up in a repair shop).
It would be wise to read up a little before doing any job, including this one. Every single on-line article, tutorial, or video I have ever seen on doing this cautions the reader that lift gates are heavy and MUST be supported before you remove the struts.
"Well kids, you tried your best and you failed miserably, so the lesson is, never try" --- Homer Simpson
Do we need some grease when installing? Thanks.
Would use my face to support her buns nawmsayin?
Installed some tonight on a Chevy Tahoe. Fit and function exactly like OE at a substantially cheaper price. Fully satisfied.
How are they holding up?
Save myself $275.00 dollars
The "stationary prop" is in this case, a man. :)
Nice Dumper on the Broad!!!
Is it gonna work for automatic lift gate?
Thank you very much for this video! Thanks to your video I was able to change both supports, by myself, on my wife's explorer in under 10 minutes! Note to viewers: use a 6' ladder to support the gate. It makes replacement that much easier. Using a pole to brace the gate is a bad idea. Thank you #rockauto (www.rockauto.com/) for the affordable replacement parts!
Just replaced these on my '01 Durango. It truly couldn't have been easier! A simple unscrew of the old ones with a T40 screw bit. I started with the bottom first, then the top. Old struts came right out. Installed the new struts top first, then bottom. Took me all of five-minutes, and that's without anyone assisting. I used a paint extension pole to hold the liftgate up. No problem at all, and I now have a working liftgate again. If you have an older model Durango, it's super-easy.
Guys! I typically don't comment on videos but I had to for yours. We were quoted $500 plus labor for these lift supports. I bought what I needed at the store for a fraction of what was quoted. Went to the store to pick them up. Even the guy there said it was an hour long job. I watched your video and it literally took me 5 min to replace these. THANKS!
My vehicle is a 2007 Toyota Sequoia, and my rear hatch supports finally gave out after 10 years. After purchasing the replacement supports, which cost around $40, I let them sit at my house as I hate endeavoring on projects that I'm not familiar with. Facing the reality of another trip dealing with an unusually heavy rear hatch door, I finally decided to try and install the new lift supports. After watching the video above from Lift Supports Depot, I was able to install these lift supports in less than five minutes. On one end of the spectrum, I feel like an idiot for waiting as long as I did before installing these supports. On the other end of the spectrum, I feel like an All-Star as it took me less than five minutes, and the struggle to lift the heavy rear hatch is gone. Thanks Lift Supports Depot.
Thank you LiftSupportsDepot for you're support, ha, no pun intended ! Without it this could be dangerous, especially on larger SUV's. But I was able to do it without incident. The only thing is the rear hatch speeds up a little during the last couple feet of travel. I don't know if it originally did that or not. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
I replaced my Tucson's. if you don't have friends like me you can do it with one arm if you have some upper body strength.
Just received a set PM1015L/R they did not come with release clamps.Once they are installed there is no way of removing them.
Easy to locate the correct replacement part online, prices way better than dealer, prompt shipping, quality product, and this easy-to-follow installation video all made for and excellent experience. Seriously, installation takes five minutes. Thank you Lift Supports Depot!
It took me less than 5 minutes to install on my 2004 Lexus for a fraction of what the dealer quoted. I used my golf club (driver) to prop open the trunk.
just replaced on my 2011 Chrysler Town and Country. took me longer to open the packaging than it took to install the new lift supports. Watching this video made that possible. the new supports work great!
I called looking for a lift cylinder for a square chissel mortiser. Not something you find in every wood shop. The original part is no longer manufactured but the folks here found one that works perfectly. Good on you!
Got my lift supports delivered today. (thru Amazon, from Lift Supports Depot) Found this video. Put them in today. All Done! .. Thanks for having a video to support your product!
2 Min 40 Sec video..excellent. The install took around 30 Sec. Excellent part and install video. :-)
Thanks for your video. I replaced my chevrolet malibu hatchback's liftsupport easily.
Great video, class act & step by step, wish I saw it before ordering...I would have given you guys the money...well I have 2 cars
LiftSupportsDepot, you've gained a customer for life.
Good video but it contradicts the instructions. The enclosed instructions say DO NOT jam the new support end over the ball socket without lifting the U band slightly or it could damage the end of the U band, or split the nylon end of the support. Thats exactly what she does in the video.
groovy
Ball tip is integrated into strut on '97 Acura Integra so there's not removing it with a flathead screwdriver as shown in the video. You have to unbolt the ball tip and use the replacement that comes with the strut.
Easy removal and install. I can't believe I had the dealer do it in the past and charge me 3x as much for the strut.
Thanks for saving me lots of money!
Great Video. Toyota dealership wanted $238 EACH for the parts and $100 for the install. Buy the parts online for about $60-$70 for the pair (including shipping), watch the video and spend the 5 minutes doing it yourself! Thanks LiftSupportsDepot!
DH and I installed them on a 2004 Santa Fe this morning. It took about five minutes.
Thanks for the helpful video and mail, struts arrived quickly, installed in minutes and worked fine. Five stars all round :)
Great instructions. My daughter and I did this repair in about 5 minutes. Saved a bunch of money! Thank you!!
Wow! It took me less than 10 minutes to install them by myself. Wish I had gone looking for the lift supports years ago.
grasias muy buena hayuda
Super easy installation, less than 10 minutes, thanks to y'all's parts and this video. Thanks!
Thank you. This video helped in install my support lifts in minutes with no problems.
Thank you for posting this video. Help me saved money instead of bringing it to the service station, with your video instruction, I can do it by myself.
Thank you very much. i have maintained the back door and the method has succeeded
Thanks a bunch. This video was great. I was able to install in less than 5 minutes.
so i made it too . just by using woodprix woodworking plans:)
Is anyone else’s clicking? I can’t find the issue
Many thanks for your help. God bless you.
What about a 2001 Suzuki Swift?
does anyone know how to remove tailgate
Worked perfectly thanks
Worked great. Did by myself in a few minutes with a stepladder and a few short pieces of 2x6. Beats paying a mechanic a few hundred dollars!
How are they holding up?
Great product. Just installed within 30 minutes. Real easy!
How are they holding up?
Was VERY easy to install....as advertised.
Thank you!
I replaced them in my Chevrolet suburban, but i installed them up-side down. Does it matter ?
+dape7 Read the part about oil lubrication and seal life above. Good advice. Trust me you are not the first or the last to do this.
+dape7 With all installations we recommend installing these with the Piston pointing down. This keeps the seals properly lubricated and ensure maximum life.
Appreciate the vid,, thanks.
thanx guys!
is this the same process for every year model
This is the most common installation for U-Band supports, however there are other styles of supports which may have a different installation procedure. Please feel free to contact us to discuss your application and find out more about the installation process or visit our FAQ @ www.liftsupportsdepot.com/lift-supports-depot-installation-tips-faq-master-list for other installation tips.
Couldn't have been easier! Installed in just a few minutes & they work great!
We just installed these on our 2007 Acadia. It was simple and easy.
