Depends on your genre. I’m a big 490 fan for rock and blues because it’s warmer, more balanced, and much less harsh in the highs.
But for metal, the 498T all day.

I was not expecting to hear Converge in a Gibson pickup demo, good taste, good song and def the 490T rocks!

Great tone. I prefer the 490t because it’s brighter but the difference is negligible. Never understood the hate for them. I’m going to put the cheap 490s into my classic 70s Flying V, because the 70s tribute humbuckers are too muddy for me

I am very familiar with both of these pick ups. 498t all the way. Well worth the swap in just about any application.

If you can't sound good playing rock with a 490t, it's probably not the pickup, lol. That said, the 498t comes with a bit more balls and is awesome. I have an SG with 490r/490t and NO ONE ever complains about its tone. I also have a Les Paul with a 498t in the bridge and it sounds great, a bit more ballsy than the SG, but they both rock.

I liked both. So I will stop looking for the pickup specs for this models from now on (it's hard to find a music store in here with both models at the same time). Thanks for the video

Sound very similar to me. I'd happily use either. I think I prefer the 490 though.

The 490 is definitely smoother and not as aggressive, but I agree you don't hear that much of a difference you feel it more while playing

I like the 490t better. More balanced, less midrange.

After watching and listening I say it's worth swapping... with a Seymour Duncan JB.

not much in it, easliy bridge the gap with a slight eq tweak

    EQ pedal = best solution.

I wouldn't say so since pickups aren't just a different EQ curve but also have a different dynamic behavior in different frequencies.

498 for the palm mutes. 490 feels more dinamic to me. Maybe I would lower (in height) the 498 to seek that dinamics

Or use less gain on the amp. It's been a while since I recorded the guitar tracks, but if I remember correctly I used quite a bit of gain.
