    this video is Atleast ten years old. Billy lives in Tennessee and does a lot of really old stuff now. Original F-Head motors and flat track stuff. There was also another builder from the US who claimed to have invented the hub less wheel design as well. Billy and him had a Biker Build Off episode against each other. Billy did some time in prison behind a drunk driving accident and it changed his Life, for the better. Always love n respect Billy. Kept me going when I was in prison myself.

      @Nedd Flanders when I was in prison I wanted to write him because he was locked up at that time too but I figured he had so much mail coming in it would be a waste. Such a shame he accidentally killed another biker. When he got out that’s when he was done with Florida and moved to Tennessee

I know several people, all diy guys that ended up with some bad injuries from jewelry they wore. The one that sticks out is a guy had his wedding ring on and touched a positive along with a ground and burned his finger really badly had to cut off the ring, left a ring sized wound about 1/4” deep.

He's working on a milling machine, with lose, long hair, and no goggles. I don't think he's putting on a show for the camera- I think that he's just less of an "ATGATT" kind of guy, and more of an "DILLIGAF" mindset (for better or worse).

      Why wouldn't it be?!?! The hub/ bearing setup looks extremely strong/ robust/ large to help dissipate heat, and well designed. As long as the bearing/ races stay in tact, don't overheat, are preloaded, torqued, etc I don't see any issue. Bike is sick and Billy is one of the best. Pretty sure he rides his stuff pretty long distance unlike a lot of 'trailer queens,' so if there was going to be some sort of catastrophic failure I'm pretty positive it would've happened pretty quickly into the R&D or test riding phase. Maybe someone who is more familiar with it can shed some more light. Yep and people don't realize it's a dumb idea to start with. The trouble with hubless wheels is, the bearing diameter has to be so large the rollers inside the bearings will be spinning 30-40 times faster than regular hub bearings per wheel/tire revolution. Large diameter bearings are designed for heavy load not high-speed. I've seen large diameter bearings explode with far less rpms.

      BTW, You've got it backwards. Paxton Superchargers and other Turbochargers run up to and beyond 100k+ rpms and they use large (13-19mm) diameter Ball Bearings, lubricated by circulated engine oil to keep them cool. Now if Franco or Billy would've integrated the lubricated Ball-Bearing setup, they would last much longer.

      Yess just the comment I was looking for knew something about this design isn’t right thanks G also notice the amount of noise coming from it at a relevantly low speed 35-40mph makes me think this is something that has to be replaced often with few miles and bumps.

    • @MAGGOT_VOMIT
      @MAGGOT_VOMIT 3 роки тому +1

      @@nobullshit9721 Yep After thinking about it before, since the load is relatively light, the only way I see that he could get away with it would be customizing a scaled-up large Ball-Type bearing set up similar to the large Ball-Type bearings that are in Paxton Superchargers with recirculating Lubrication.
      The Paxton SCs handle rpm's in excess of 50k+ rpms easily, even with those large bearings housings that have 1/2"+ diameter Balls in them. If memory serves me correctly, both fore and aft bearing-races in the Paxton's are an O-Ring sealed, Clam-Shell style housing, containing the steel balls and recirculated engine crankcase oil. As a plus, those type of bearings systems dampen their own harmonics with the recirculating oil.

      @MAGGOT_VOMIT 2 роки тому

      @@multishit6664 Did you not read my original post?? The Roller Bearings are the cause of the whole problem, Mr Mentality. RollerBearings that large in diameter can't handle high speeds.
      Ball-Bearings handle extreme loads on ALL axis and can do it at high-speeds!! Roller-Bearings can't. Plus roller-bearings need a pre-load to keep the rollers from "bouncing" between the inner and outer race (aka harmonics) and self-destructing. The larger the roller-bearing, the more required pre-load, which lowers it's speed-rating. Ball-Bearings aren't handicapped by those issues.
      That bike doesn't have enough azz to qualify as a significant "Load" for such huge roller-bearings. The roller-bearings on that bike are about 18-20inches in diameter. The outer bearing-race has a rolling surface circumference of about 60in. Each of those rollers in those huge roller-bearings are at least 1/2" diameter and have a circumference of 1.57in. So that means each roller in those huge roller-bearings, has to spin over 38 times every tire revolution. That's over 30,000 rpms @ 60mph!! The harmonics alone must be through the roof!
      Stock wheel bearing rollers on bikes and cars only spin about 8 times per tire revolution. That's only about 6500rpms @ 60mph.

You have to be attempting to imitate something in real life your not to be posing, like for example Jay Leno dressing as biker gang member would be posing but not someone making a sci-fi inspired bike, as that’s just a themed bike customizer. Since I was just noticing how the rear wheel sort of resembles the light cycle from the film Tron and wondering how a this bike (or clone of it) might look with circular lighting on the outside of the rear wheel. Since no prototype or even a mock-up drawing exist for how this would look, I think you got some notion of what if would look like that wasn’t what I had in mind. Whether it would look cool or like garbage, who knows since I haven’t thought it that far along. It was just a thought and not even close to being a reality so calm down as I really was’t seriously suggesting he mod this particular bike that way.

    They are truly works of art.
    And I’m not saying this about Billy and his partner, but as a former mechanic, I’m less than impressed with the physics and mechanics of some of that art.
    I’d rather look at, than be looked at and have a bike that doesn’t hold up on the road if rode hard.
    For me the mechanicals need to be solid before I would hit the road.
    /s/ Matt’s dad
    It’s a low mile 02 Daytona for me. Used to own a very built Norton Dominator. Will never own another 2 stroke. One was too many.

    • @TheRoadhammer379
      @TheRoadhammer379 2 роки тому

      You think he didn't build these bikes to hold up safely? He rode the bike from Florida to South Dakota, no trailer, just straight up rode it. Sounds like he had it figured out, being a mechanic doesn't make you an engineer, 😂.

    • @mattgoodmangoodmanlawnmowi2454
      @mattgoodmangoodmanlawnmowi2454 2 роки тому

      @@TheRoadhammer379 But I am also a mechanic - oops engineer. And I was thinking of a more pop cult reference. Think about a name must of us know. And I am far from the first to question their build quality. I just don’t want to start a war or a lawsuit. For the record this is Matt’s dad.
      Think SoCal and a color not seen at the top of the 1% world. wink wink. Like I said, there are a lot of pretty bikes that ride like crap and aren’t put together well.
      The fact that the chain bike has held up is proof Billy Lane had it down right.
      I learned more about engineering from working flat rate than I learned about mechanic ‘ing from engineering. But they are both necessary. Ask Ferdinand Porsche who broke protocol by crawling under a car to see about a racing suspension problem. Engineers weren’t supposed to crawl under cars and get their lab coats dirty. But he understood that you couldn’t hide behind theory. Theoretically there was no problem but he found it and fixed it.

    • @NBSV1
      @NBSV1 3 роки тому +1

      Probably either a balance issue with more weight on the left side so it has to lean right to balance. Or, possibly an alignment issue with the chassis that has it wanting to turn left a little so you have to lean right to go straight.
      Choppers aren't exactly going to be the best riding bikes out there.
