You are such a great teacher. Thank you. I remember watching my mother bead on her clothing when I was young. I loved watching her make beautiful items. My people are from Manitoulin Island. I am Ojibwe . It is wonderful to learn traditional skills. My mother taught us basic basket weaving when we were young. How to to harvest vines and make them into useful and beautiful items. We learned about different tannins to dye with. Played at sanding feathers. My grandfather taught me to track and about local flora and fauna on our farm in Michigan as a child. I learned to skin in 3rd grade. Thank you for helping me further my traditional skills and be able to pass them on to my daughter. Have a beautiful day, Thank you.
Thank you so much for your heart warming words. I too am Ojibwe, from the Manitoba/Ontario boarder. I am so happy to see that you learned so much from your elders and are continuing to learn so you can pass it down to the next generation. Miigwech and many blessings from the creator on you and your family.
Mani, thank you so much for providing a thorough and accessible introduction to such an old and revered Indigenous practice. I feel so blessed to have found you and this introduction. I will remember this every time I bead.
Thank your for slowing down this process. I have watched a few videos on this and they go to fast and ended up having to watch them over repeatedly in order to see what is happening.
I am brand new to this. Just bought my first beads. I can’t wait to try this. Thank you very much for sharing a thorough well made, clear video. I love that I can actually see what you are stitching. You explained everything so clearly. Thank you so much!!!
I picked up beading supplies for the first time today and this is the first video tutorial I've watched, I am amazed by this craft and how it all just comes together. I appreciate the acknowledgement of native American beading aswell!
I find beading really intresting and mind calming. Thank you for your video. Thankfully my mom is sewing, crotcheting etc and we always had things needed for such art. Just needed to get the beads. Hopefully I will stick to it.
You’re an incredible teacher! And very encouraging; I felt like I had a motivational speaker with me telling me to make sure I relax and just worry about it being neat 😅 I had the stupid problem of pulling too tight 🤦🏻♀️ Im a bead weaver so I’m used to pulling tightly but you’re absolutely right I just skim over a lot of silly mistakes I’m making and you bring them to my attention! Thank you so much (: I subscribed. I’m making my mom a rainbow flower popsocket and earring set (:
I have finally found a teacher I can relate to. I've watched a lot of videos trying to learn and they're good, but they're not right for me. You are a great teacher. Thank you so much. I can't wait to get started. And what you were saying about the stiff felt, I had no idea what to use so I'm glad you explained that. Common sense told me the cloth needed to be tight so I was going to put it in an embroidery hoop. I am a new subscriber .
Thank you! This was very helpful, my late Mom in the late 60’s & 70’s we would bead together, I miss my Mom who I lost last June 2019, i miss those precious memories! ❤️😢
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I decided now was a good a time as ever to start learning how to bead. My mothers requested something for mother's day (she doesn't care that I'm a beginner) and your videos are going to help me greatly.
i do the tack down method by putting the beads on 30 gauge wire and tack down with Nymo thread. That way my strand is flexible without flopping around too much. its weird but it works for me!😂
Absolutely wonderful Marie you are a perfect teacher very engaging - I have been beading taught myself own method when young, and the couching method is similar , so great to see how the traditional method is done. Thank you heaps. xx
Thank you for making this video! It was very helpful:) I’ve been learning how to bead as a way to reconnect with my Ojibwe heritage. I appreciate your acknowledgment of Indigenous art!
I really enjoyed your instruction, I have been doing some beading - of sorts- in different applications then most people today are doing it. I am a crafter and use it for totes, purses, and on clothing and I am self taught so viewing yours today was by all means enlightening! You have shown me how to improve my skills considerably. I am interested also in knowing a little of your background- if you care to share- I studied Native American history in college and have enjoyed working with Native American and their cultures a great deal over the years and listening to you I was just wondering what part of the country you are form. I am currently living in Northwestern Wisconsin but I have also lived and worked in Eastern Az. Just wondering- anyway, Thank you very much for all your instruction and I will be sure to keep watching and learning.
I love how detailed you are in explaining the different options. Your voice also makes the process seem like it is easy to conquer. That said, which of the methods would you recommend for beading on T-shirts?
That is a tricky question to answer. It depends on what you will be doing. With wearable washable items you will need to secure the beads heavily. You will also need to check that the beads don't loose their color or shine when washed. String some beads on thread that you plan to use and put them in a small sack and wash how you plan to wash the garment. That will tell you if they will work. I would also recommend that you use a heavier gauge thread then normal. You want to fill the beads with thread so they don't wiggle on the tread and cut their way through. So try a small sample first and wash and wear lots before creating a bigger piece that will take a lot of your time. (a pocket piece or little item near the hem or where a top pocket would be can be cute) Enjoy the journey
Great Tutorial - Thank you for taking the time to share with the world! You're a natural for teaching!!!! I am going to be trying this - I have everything but the backing...so going to get that this week...from a fan from Ontario, Canada
I am starting at #1. I've been subscribed since I started doing bead work but I am starting over with learning more.... I am having trouble with needles and getting frustrated. They are the right size I've just been through a lot lately.

This was exactly what I needed because I'm a visual learner and reading about this wasn't doing the trick! You are such a great teacher, and I'm very grateful you shared your abilities and knowledge! ^-^
Just started watching video. I hope I learn something here. I'm a beginnerish level. I just don't know HOW to add thread properly. I really wanna learn how to do this type of beading. I've just started my first earring. Usually bead lanyards and dreamcatchers. I did 2 lightercases also. Idk how to do patterns. I hope I can understand u! But it's looking hopeful so far! Regardless Migwetch (thank you) for passing on your traditional knowledge in a modern way! What a cool way to do that!!! ✌PEACE 🖤LOVE ☻JOY from a Saulteaux Queen from Regina Saskatchewan Canada!!

Hello, and thanks! On all my videos in the opening part and under the videos I list all the beads used in each project. That should help. Enjoy the journey
I just wanted to start with initials on brain tanned deer leather. If I go to Michael’s and get a # 12 needle is that what I want? Do I need to know more? And what thread could I get from there that would work? There just seems to be so many kinds of needles and threads lol thank you.

@@jocharbonneau2797 me too. My parents divorced and my Mom was white so I didn’t learn traditional ways.
