I was 100% that Thors was gonna be the main character after the first couple episodes. Honestly when Thors and the few "warriors" left for the war I thought that was gonna be the whole series, Thors slowly showing them how to be a real warrier through experience. But damn was that wrong. 😂
Thors was too strong and powerful, too nice, too good as a father and leader. Basically the perfect character. It's always those types of characters that get killed off to create some story.

Askellad saw it on Prince canute what he saw from Thor and this time decided to follow and give himself to him or become servant. As well as Thorkell saw the same eyes as he saw from Thor in the eyes of Prince Canute. That's why Askellad was so desperate to change things since he's getting old and doesn't have enough time left. Bjorn one of his loyal servants notice it as well that askellad was being desperate. In the end, askellad understand what being a true warrior is. A true warrior brings peace and choose it always. There is no need to choose violence because everything leads to futile. Askellad send his two former members who betrayed him away and gave them gold and made them a promise that won't go in battle field again. ASKELLAD Killed the king to end violence and sacrifice himself for the sake of the Prince Canute and his Homeland(wales).

The scene where askelad uses the pole of the ship to get the surprise attack in is absolutely sublime. It also fits him as a character perfectly. Imo he could kill anyone, even Thorkell, given the right circumstances just because of his IQ. As Thorkell said himself, there is no real comparison of strength, it all depends on the situation kinda.
1:36 that was a young Thorgil fighting against thors. Thorgil took a sword to the stomach but it was actually off to the center. He lived through that. Thorgil has a scar right on the side of his belly. There are documented events of war where folks survived a sword thrust to the belly (even In modern medicine journals) and lived just fine. Though some lost some functions of their stomach. Still, they lived.
