hi
are u guys on the main land or the islands?
That mattress was literally double the thickness of mine o_O
I did not see or hear any information about when the park began construction, when construction was halted and so on. ?
yeah, I was 1/2 interested in checking out their site and running through their mattress selector but dipped out since the very first thing it asked for was my email.... hard pass if their very first step is data mining, spamming, or selling my address to god knows who. Love the content... but shady and overpriced sponsor for today's video.
Abandoned water parks / theme parks will forever be the coolest and creepiest of places. It always feels like I’m not supposed to see how these parks look barebones which adds to the creepiness. I love it.
Imagine this at night 0-0
right, that's the reason I found this channel in the first place
Creepiest? Hope
same
It was never even done.. abandoned.. but never used
There’s something particularly eerie about seeing a water park without water
Agreed
You've never been to a park before? Jk xD
Almost resembles brutalist architecture if brutalist designers had an air for fun slides.
Yeah it’s so much interesting
@@CJacobsLP 😂
21:25 I spent some 5 months in a hospital back in the early 80s and all the operating theatres at that hospital, and many of the wards had smooth transitions between the walls and the roof and floor. Prior to one of the many operations I had at the time, I asked one of the nurses why they were like that. She said, "It makes the theatre easier to clean and keep sterile. Sometimes a patient will have a nicked or burst artery and the blood can spray the walls and ceiling. Edges and corners can trap that blood and breed bacteria." For context, the hospital wing with the operating theatres was constructed in the 1970s.
Good to know.
I have many good childhood memories of Almargem. Back in the early 2000s, this was one of the most popular water parks in the northern region of Portugal. Back then almargem was composed of the 3 orange water slides that you can see at 9:51, a small pool for children (5:54), and the river (3:57) ofc. In the river, we used to sail it using small pedal boats (we call them "Gaivotas", "Seagulls" in English). I enjoyed many good summer afternoons with my family there. Then, in 2008 a new big project started to be developed at Almargem (the new water slides at 2:48), and it never opened again. I don't know if the project's loss of funds is due to the big financial crisis that plagued europe between 2008-2010.
I was wondering the history of this water park. Thank you for sharing your memories. I am happy you had fun there. It looks like it could have been a child's dream.
so even Portugueses don't know what happened!
it had so much potential!
Wow, that's rough. They seemed so close to finishing too. You'd think they could've reopened the original part while they finished the new area, just to get some money coming in at least.
The great recession
Based on the title, I was hoping for a combination water park and sanatorium. Man, people might actually seek treatment for their mental illness if the sanitorium had a water park. That'd be sweet.
Haha could you imagine????
I thought the same thing lol
That sanatorium was built for Tuberculose illness, thas why was built in the midle os a forest
You are thinking of a sanitarium. That’s for mental illness. A sanatorium was a hospital for treatment of tuberculosis.
@@dorcasia109 Oxford dictionary has sanatorium as "an establishment for the medical treatment of people who are convalescing or have a chronic illness." and sanitarium as "an establishment for the medical treatment of people who are convalescing or have a chronic illness." Apparently the terms are used interchangeable but sanitarium is used more in North America.
Very excited for this! Cool locations guys!
Very excited to see your vid too
So cool to see you come to Portugal! I just want to add that it is very common to "brick off" abandoned buildings here, it just makes it harder for most people to get in and get hurt.
Oh we’re doing the whole world now! It’s ON! ✊🏽🙏🏽💯
yes👌
Go look up their videos from China.
@@Psychol-Snooper ?
Yesssssss!!!!
@@OnlineWithBella ?
The water park is located in Viseu, good childhood memories from that place, sad to see that big expansion fail miserably, maybe too big of a project for that region. Amazing video as always.
portugal em força! ♥️
Probably should censor the city
@@jackz5486 it's called Google...
It's not that difficult
Yeah, looks like it started in 2008, and abandoned in 2014/15. 28 days later explored this in 2021 between lockdowns.
Where is it on Google
The idea of having rounded corner on walls and ceilings, sometimes even against the floor is a practice still in use today. Since a 90 degree corner is harder to clean than a nice smooth radius.
The practice is most common in cleanrooms. Though, sometimes the "curved" corner is just a chamfered edge forming two 45 degree corners about an inch or two apart.
What I love about your productions are the fantastic cinematography plus the ambient soundscapes that you use.
I would absolutely love to have seen that sanatorium in it's prime... I feel like it must have been modern and well funded when it opened. I think this is why I enjoy watching you guys so much. You're very intentional/respectful when you're exploring a building and it's easy to take a minute and build our own ideas of what the buildings might have been like while they were still being used as opposed to having every second of the video be someone yelling or gasping because of something stupid.
I know. What would could have been good videos ruined because the people making it are going "OMG 😱 A GHOST RAT IS GOING TO EAT US...SUBSCRIBE SO THE GHOST LETS US GO" Then start screaming and acting like a 🤡 lol.
Wow, the lights in that water slide looked amazing and trippy.
Please never change the opening guitar riff. It's badass when you put it through the surround sound.. Love the videos and channel as always.
What a shame. Imagine the kids excitement hearing a Waterpark was being built and then their disappointment at finding out it wasn't gonna be finished. So sad
This is the autopsy room.
With meat hooks!
Maybe it's the kitchen?
That conversation cracked me up! 😂
the fact that there’s little to no vandalism makes the sanitarium so much better🤩

I've been following you guys for a long time, but I never thought I'd see you exploring my country. Hearing the video in Portuguese at the beginning felt kinda weird Ahah Great job as always!
Parque Aquático do Almargem and the Sanatorio in Caramulo. Still remenber as a kid, tons of people in Caramulo in the 70's while this Sanatorium was at work. Took a couple of photos 20 or 30 years ago inside. Not much changed. Speechless......ThankU guys.
Why do you local people always have to give away the locations? Don't do that as this is the internet and people probably will invade and vandalize these locations.
@@eily_b *hopping a plane to a foreign country I know absolutely nothing about to vandalize a building that is slowing being destroyed by nature* Thanks for the brilliant idea! 👍😆
@@eily_b The boys literally namedrop the same town halfway through
@@eily_b I must agree with you. Anyhow in this case "innocently" they identified both locations. Anyhow is under negotiations to a near future "obliterate" those places by other projects after decades
@@eily_b You might not realise how empty central Portugal is. The Parque isn't anywhere near any large cities, and anybody in the small local towns and villages will already know about it. Likewise Caramulo.
You’re the only explorers I watch, no one else compares. I love the feeling of experiencing every location with you! I’ll forever be a fan!
Same here! It’s the Proper People or no one for me! 👥
I actually was introduced to this channel when they had a crossover episode with Dan Bell. I love both channels. If you haven't already checked it out, you may like some of Dan's exploration videos too.
+1
ok to kitchen now
You really would enjoy The “Broken Window Theory” guys. They do Europe and have teamed with the PP in past adventures.
Man I actually really enjoy the chill atmosphere of this exploration, I mean you can tell you guys are real tired, but it makes it relaxed 🤙🤙
Love Portugal and those tiles in the entry of the sanitorium were gorgeous!
I lived in Portugal for 20 years. There's actually a bottling facility with fresh mountain spring water. Great job guys, keep it up, can't wait to see where you go next.
That first scene where you guys are jumping over the sign/wall, reminded me of videos I've seen where people attach go-pros to a cats collar and you watch them run around. lol
I have been watching you two since the abandoned Phosphate mine 7 years ago. 👍😎 Keep em coming and I'll keep watching.
As always, another fine exploration. Thank you guys for sharing with us ❤️
The cool colourful rings at 11:00! Would have that as a picture on the wall, great shot and video! 👏👍
My hands get sweaty every time I see you guys walking on floors that are in such bad shape.
Stay safe guys. And thanks for everything.
Yeah - the bridge is dodgy, indeed. You can walk below the bridge as well. But where is the thrill?
nice....loved the sanitorium ....I could spend all day looking around that place
Absolutely love that sanitarium's architecture
I know you guys MUST BE well respected to be privy to such magical locations...and as always I deeply respect you sharing your adventures. My fav sanatorium so far! Portuguese Deco Rules!
@sex the elmo yes! thank you!!
wow, I've spent the last two years watching your videos strictly on my phone & tablet and it does not do justice to how crisp and beautifully your camaras show off these abandoned beauties. I could imagine watching this through VR and feeling like I'm actually there with you.
the video is so clear, I really appreciate you investing so much time, energy and money into these projects because it shows and it really puts you above many of the less scrupulous urbxers on yt. The Proper People really was a good choice of name ^.^
Yeah, it's sad that 90% of the people are watching on phones and never really fully realizing the experience. I've been watching for years on large monitors and subwoofer audio system that is so much more immersive.
@@LiveeviL6969 to be fair my phone has a 4k screen and the videos look amazing on it.
You really have to be careful with some of that old hospital equipment. I remember reading something about a piece of cancer-treating equipment that exposed an entire family to deadly amounts of radiation, because the dad/husband of the family was a construction guy dismantling an old hospital, and brought home a piece of the equipment to the kids because it had an interesting glow to it.
The birdsong in the episode is beautiful 🥰
Abandoned parks are the best and saddest at the same time.
wow I had no idea we had an abbandoned waterpark in that region! extremely cool stuff.
If you guys decide to stick around or visit Portugal again some other time, I recommend you check out OndaParque (another water park), Dona Chica's Castle, Hell's Tower, The Professor's House (Parreira), or Witch's Palace (aka Palácio Rei do Lixo)! I live near the first waterpark I mentioned, but there is another, bigger one located in Lisbon.
Nice!
Since I'm from Portugal this was an insta click, keep up the videos.
Siga Portugal crlh!!!
Another awesome video. It’s so sad to see places like the water park just abandoned when it had such potential. Would’ve been a great place. The sanatorium was neat, loved the elevator I thought was so cool. Thanks guys for another great explore!
These guys have the coolest job ever, exploring abandon places for a living
Combining a Water Park and a Sanatorium, now that's a great idea! Good way to help the depressed and down trodden patients, just send em' down the tube!
I'm portuguese,, welcome and have a great explore!
I can't stop obsessing over the tiles in that sanatorium. They are absolutely beautiful!
A water park AND a sanatorium?! You're guys spoiled us! 🥰
Wow. What a sad place. All that art and beautiful construction. A person's dream died due to cash flow issues. This would have been an awesome waterpark!
I loved how you saw that door move and casually said, "no, not wind. ghosts".
Am I the only weird one that was so interested by looking at his bedroom in the beginning. He’s got himself a little headboard and nice lamp and everything. Go him!
I absolutely love the materials in the sanatorium. It definitely represents both a different time and philosophy, both architecturally and medically. I understand why it is no longer this way, but the idea of utilitarian spaces built with special attention to quality and aesthetics is lovely to me.
For some reason I especially love your water park explorations so thanks for this. 😁
And FYI, after I watch your videos the first time I use them to help me relax for sleep. My favorite ASMR. 😌
Thank you for visit Portugal ! 🇵🇹
Wow! I live in Portugal for 7 years and never heard of this water park 🤯 true explorers!
Love Portugal it's a beautiful country my husband was born there and we are going this summer! Now I want to find this abandoned park! Haha
It's Parque Aquático Do Almargem, not too far from Viseu.
That lift was super cool!
The decay in the Sanatorium was amazing, and the rain really set the mood.
When I was in my teens I explored an abandoned hotel/villa in Portugal which was built into the side of a steep mountain. Was pretty sketchy but so much fun.
that water park was dope
the light rings proved they were ahead of their times visionary's
Waterparks and Amusement parks are my absolute favorite, please please please keep exploring them!
That Sanitarium was the scariest place you've hit. I hope it's been closed for a long time because that floor was scary. More than once soon after you went in, I felt like that didn't look steady anymore.
You guys make amazing videos! I love urban exploring and am working on growing my own channel!
That water park would have been awesome if they finished it! So cool to see!
You guys are one of my favorite explorers. I love the locations you pick, this one most definitely included. Great Job as always.
I would hate to be one of those neighbors across the valley and having to wake-up every morning to see that disaster. Cool video.
But they are probably glad that they do not face the traffic every day. it is a quite remote area...
The panorama restaurant abandoned on the outskirts of Lisbon is pretty cool also, visited it in 2016 while in Portugal.
seems like portugal has some lovely abandoned places!
So awesome that you are exploring in Portugal!! Such awesome locations. Thanks guys, and well done as always!
I love the content that you guys put out all the time I think it's so fascinating all the different places you see I love the history and how you give a backstory on the locations keep up the good work and I'll keep watching and liking
Thanks for all of your content, I've been working on a 'reform school' near my home. I've done a 1960's era similar style exploration but that was as a youth without cameras and equipped with a skateboard, a couple old mills with similar gear, the buildings have since been gutted. Thanks for the inspiration and retreat to my roots, I will link you to my photos when I compile them.
I love the intro with the concept design interrupted by the actual video! My absolute favorite way that y'all start videos
Feels like it's been a while since the last video, even though it hasn't really. But then we get blessed with 2 explorations! Great job PP 👍
I watch too much paranormal crap, so I’d be terrified (but also intrigued) to explore a sanatorium. Huge fan. Keep up the great videos and stay safe guys 👍🏻🤙🏻
I wish they'd restore this place and get it up and running it looks amazing
Omg this is probably one of your 1st videos that actually made me feel sad for the neglect of a building, and ive been watching for years! that poor water park thou never saw the light of day!
Love your content! Very relaxing after a long day, thank you.
I want to commend you guys on your videos. I love that you show, when available, new footage of the location or any other clips plus seeing the architecture of the time the buildings were built transports you to that time. I was thinking about this and seeing places, especially like the water park in this video, brings a bit of sadness. What I mean is someone had this big idea and now it just sits dead, not to get morbid, but the corpses of what was and what could have been. Kudos guys, really love the videos. Be safe out there.
I recently started binge watching your videos while I'm working and they are so relaxing in a weird way. I also like how you respect the areas you go to and don't take anything with you or destroy property.
So freaking gorgeous!
Always love your videos you two!
Y'all's videos are the absolute best entertainment when I'm sick! No idea why but anytime I'm just ill I get the urge to watch these videos and it makes me feel better
Guys, many sanitoriums are in the mountains. It's actually the case as often as not.
Portugal is full of half-finished golf courses, hotels and what not. So many projects left to crumble because the funding ran out ...
It is really strange seeing my country on one of your videos. I didn't even know we had a project for such a water park here. I wish it would be complete, it would be awesome to go there!
The BEST intro music ever...
Very excited for any and all of your explorations from this trip! Went on vacation in Portugal once and saw lots of phenomenal architecture there, I can imagine there are plenty of interesting videos to come.
The architecture was beautiful
I really wanted one of you to go all the way through one of the big slides, but I cannot blame you for not doing so! Yes, that's a 1930s or 1940s x-ray machine, with a lead-glass cone for collimating (shaping) the beam. Flared collimators were used for medical imaging, with cylinders and pointed cones for dental work. That table is built only for radiography; tables for fluoroscopy allowed the x-ray head to be moved under the table so the fluorescent screen would be on top. The tall, narrow cabinet in the backgroubnd at 16:32 would have contained the power transformer. The two extensions off the back of the cylinder (which probably still contains an x-ray tube) were where the thick power cables entered. That wall plate was for some sort of elevator, not to control the x-ray machine.
The "Orthoskop" is JUST a fluoroscope, from the 1930s or 40s too. Yes, a Nazi-era x-ray machine! They could put a film cartridge in, but that was mainly made for live pictures. When the screen turns yellow, the phosphor has gone bad. They're supposed to be white, and they glow a sinister neon green. The tube head moves up and down when the screen is moved, using chains and counterweights. There's lead glass in front of the screen so the operator isn't getting a faceful of radiation, but later, wide lead shielding was added around the handle(s) flanking the screen; still later, they put on lead shields which stuck up 1' or so above the screen and long, leaded flaps cut into strips which hung below, to protect the operator further! I think these are scary devices, being that there was a drastically higher exposure the patent AND operator could get.
Thank you for the details. Very cool!
Love you guys and all your content! Water parks, amusement park and asylums are my favorite videos by you!
This is so cool!
Omg ur cat looks the same as mine!!!
So so glad I stumbled on you guys a fair while back. Always look forward to the videos! 😁
it’s crazy to see you guys posting a video set in portugal while i’m there visiting family, and also coincidentally super close to this park! portugal has a lot of amazing abandoned architecture, i’d love to see you guys do more videos on it! keep up the great work as always :)
Im so happy to see you guys exploring my country! Love your videos like always!
This is so unbelievably cool! Amazing video as always!
Love your posts you guys to a great job with shots and angles of places you explore. I always look forward to the next post.
28:28 "...sounds like cars out there..." I lived in a small town on the Oregon coast, and the ocean waves crashing on the beach sounded, to me at least, like the muted roar of I-40 where I grew up. We translate to what we know.
The sanatorium is stunning. From ornate wooden French doors to the intricate tile work. Just amazing.
Ooo! I love the slides!
I enjoy seeing old videos of the places you explore like that construction video of the water park. It helps to imagine what the place would be like unabandoned
Cheers from Portugal!🇵🇹
Absolutely beautiful!
Totally enjoying your around the world explorations! Thank you.
💚💛❤️ Loving this video! I'm a long time subscriber and I can't believe you guys are in Portugal! My country! This is awesome! Are you guys trying to go to RARET? It was featured in our first Netflix show called Gloria, the place is abandoned. A lot of our abandoned places have bricks in windows and doors, indeed. We have a lot of abandoned places! Can't wait for more videos in Portugal and Spain!! 💚💛❤️
Amazing video!
Thank you for visiting my country, hope you had a great time and great fun exploring.
Obrigado!
Really great architecture and the amount of decay in the sanatorium! wow!
