I’ve been making the argument that higher placements in the regular season needs to matter much more. Adding in the play-in also watered down the playoffs too.
I feel like the play-in showed its value this year. In particular with how close the entire west was, having one game to make up for that one game is exciting
They could merge the two conferences in one or create two new "group conferences" at the start of the season, split the teams in 4 or 5 power groups based on their previous season record and randomly allocated them. As European I don't understand the need for the two unbalanced conferences, the same time that teams playing against each other anyway, and we end up watching the same playoffs again and again and again. Make two random group leagues or maybe more, or introduce steps with group stages, like Champions League or old Euroleague format. PS: Totally agree with you when we talk about finals. People that put asterisks can not understand what that says about their favorite team, e.g. what if the Dallas lost in the finals to the "soft" Boston "with the easiest EC"? What this will mean for Dallas? That was softer than Boston? A chip is a chip and there are 29 other teams that didn't get it that season. This includes skill, effort and luck, exactly in this row.
I really love the idea of further incentivizing a higher seed. The only issue with letting a team choose their opponent is it puts them in an awkward spot -- do you take a team that seems to be a slight threat to your playoff run and risk losing immediately... or do you actively choose cowardice and admit you want the easiest (on paper) matchup???? I think the seeding should decide your opponent just how it is currently but the top seeds should get to host the entire series or at least the first four games AND game seven if necessary. The injuries accrued a lot this playoffs because of the 65 game minimum the league implemented to be considered for any award. It’s really a double edged sword, you can be able to go to a game and be confident that the stars are gonna play but you might not be able to see them in the playoffs m
Post season bonuses should be increased substantially and prorated by the percentage of games an individual player took part in during the regular season. It increases the financial incentive for winning rounds and therefor seeding, and it allows players to weigh the risks of missing games during the regular season and losing bonus money versus load managing less and increasing the chances of getting a higher bonus in the postseason. Seeding bonuses should also be implemented at a high enough level to impact willingness to compete during the season at a players own discretion without punishing them on a contact they already signed
that's a good point. What if there was more incentive in your contract for post season success? I know the bonuses exist, but make it so compensation correlates with success.

It sucks seeing these team work so hard and have it all thrown away with an injury.
Loved the video as always but as a Celtics fan you got two minor details wrong in saying that KP has missed all of this post season (he got injured in game 3 of round 1.) and that JB has never missed a post season (not true as he had a season ending injury right before the 2021 playoffs where the Celtics got swept by the nets).
My problem wasn't the easy road of the celtics, its just that their games this post season weren't that entertaining, and when compared to what the west had my choice was easy
On the flipside, we would be mocking the Celtics all over the place if they didn't make it to the finals by saying "their path was easy, and they choked it" Sports arguments have always had that color of damned if you do, damned if you don't. I don't want the Celtics to win the chip this year, but you gotta give it to them for making it this far. They took advantage of every exploit the road to the finals has given them, and that includes injuries, a well assembled squad, and some luck. Each and every champion, in any sport, have that trait in common. Whether in a crucial play in one quarter of one game, or over multiple series, or even over an entire season, they take advantage of favorable circumstances to power them to a trophy in the end, which is the true endgame of a season.
The narrative of "An easy run to the finals" is always funny to me, because when people say it, it's usually to clown on the team that had that run, without considering the implication that statement has on the REST of the conference in question. It's been well-known for a while now that the Eastern conference has always been the weaker one in the NBA. Teams routinely make it into mid to high-mid seeds with less than 50 wins on a yearly basis. If we're going to talk about how good and/or bad a conference is as a whole, we should at least acknowledge that that conference has 14 other "bad" teams in it. Not just the one team that happened to be better than the other 14 worse ones, lol. It's great for that one team, but sucks for the other 7 in the playoffs and largely leads to snoozefests league-wide as a result.
Do you think we should reduce the amount of regular season games? Everyone’s tripping out about players getting injured and load management and all, but seems like maybe having 65 games or something like that could help a lot.
Reducing the number of seasons is just untenable. No one would ever touch a record again and can you IMAGINE the cries of “softtttt” from old heads? Play the 82 games, force the front office to consider depth
I really want to see Luka get a ring and hate the Celtics but I honestly think they will run through the Mavs - Luka and Kyrie need to both play like FMVP just to have a chance, and the Celtics roster is so deep and talented
I'm not gonna lie, I think requiring fewer wins for the 1 seed is a bit too far. I think it would prevent runs like the Miami Heat in 2023. I believe having potentially crazy Cinderella runs is a lot more entertaining than slightly improving the regular season. They tried with the in-season tournament, but I think the main issue is that stars seemingly don’t care about the regular season, and as a fan, it’s hard to care about a game when the players themselves don’t even care.
I agree. I'd rather make the Cinderellas at a disadvantage and make the reg season more competitive. Maybe if I saw it play out i'd hate it though. hard to say, but fun to talk about.
Hey, relatively new to your channel, so I am not sure if there already is a video on this, but could you maybe do a video on why so many people think that the league is fixed as it baffles me why so many people think that.
The funny thing is that Celtics fans where the creators and main pushers of the narrative that the bubble ring was the the easiest and now they cry about the same narritive being used agianst them
As a baller I think 82 games is too much. Especially for these big bodies. As a teenager until my early 20s, I was really addicted to the game. I played through every pain, returned too early after injuries, and even played with my (left) hand in a cast. Once you're about 30, that's no longer possible. Not just physically. The unending hunger is simply gone. Nowadays I just work on my release most of the time and don't play pickup games with randoms anymore. Many noobs lack the etiquette needed and underestimate the athletic abilities of others. I don't want to give myself another year on crutches. Thanks for öistening to my unnecessary ând slightly off topic monologue. ^^
@@whatslaps Never thought of that. Great idea. But the medial narrative would have to adjust. More focus on the teams and coaching staffs as mvps. The constant "THAT guy or bust" superstar hyping is boring anyway (to fans of the sport at least), I think.
I agree about the “Mickey Mouse” championship, my thought is, if any of the hater’s team won that year, would it still have an asterisk next to it? A phrase that I’ve heard about getting in shape is “if you can’t tone it, tan it” and for some reason that came to mind about teams who instead of building a properly good team through savvy picks/trades/scouting/signings just go top heavy and hope for the best. Like you said, maybe not the worst strategy, (and maybe my little analogy doesn’t exactly work here) but it seems like tanning in stead of toning is the (relatively) quicker/easier way out instead of putting in the real work that gets proven results 🤷♂️. Agree with the best playoffs positioning concept too, the vibes at 7:00 captures that essence really well 👍. Once again all your postseason ideas seem awesome to me, any/all of those changes would make things more fun/interesting/exciting to me. Boooo to wasted seasons. Thanks again big homie, you made nice. Appreciate you, catch you on the next one.
haha, dude I love the can't tone it tan it comparison. I think that's perfect. If you can't do the work, put a band-aid over it. that rules. I'm excited for the future of league. the only change I could see them making to the post season is if they combine the conferences for the playoffs. Personally I'm pro load management, but I'm also a person that enjoys Batum's game haha.
Nah, untrue. Like the 15 Warriors don't win if Kyrie or even Kevin Love played in the finals. Or the Raptors wouldn't win the 19 finals if KD and Klay weren't hurt in the series.
I agree, if a team wasn’t good enough to win, they wouldn’t have, Injuries definitely can potentially sway a series, but if you’re an indisciplined team, it won’t matter, look at Boston last year, they had a clear talent advantage over Miami, but Miami was better coached and had better excecution than them
Cut the regular season games in half. All my homies agree there are too many games. It's literally a meme that nobody watches them all. It would make each game matter more, players will be more rested and less beaten up by the playoffs This will never happen tho because capitalism

NBA Hardwood Debate catching strays.
It wasn't a stray ;)
Agreed 100. A spurs fan forever now, no way our big 3 (Duncan\Ginobili\Parker) last as long as they did without load management.
pop is the og of load management
Hey, relatively new to your channel, so I am not sure if there already is a video on this, but could you maybe do a video on why so many people think that the league is fixed as it baffles me why so many people think that.
I probably wouldn't because I'm on the same side as you. I hear people comment with that a lot, but I have no idea where these people are coming from.
keep this and the short form content up, im waiting for the day you blow up
thanks man! it's been cool to watch the channel grow recently. people have been really encouraging too!

thanx glad you dig it
we WILL be supporting whatslaps til the big break
thank you for your allegiance
More respect on Demar Derozan he doesn’t deserve to be featured in a video like this
my bad
Jeffery Dahmer back on his basketball takes 🥳
WHY DOES A TEAM BEING INTERESTING MATTER ?! EVERY TEAM IN THE LEAGUE WANTS A RING, it doesn’t matter if they’re interesting or not
the dahmer glasses are the most comfortable. I'm here for the story
@@whatslaps and I’m here to listen to all your stories brotha ✊🏾
Kristap porzingas played against the Miami Heat, you lose credibility with me with that statement
Brown also didn't play in the playoffs in 2021. I lost credibility there too.
The funny thing is that Celtics fans where the creators and main pushers of the narrative that the bubble ring was the the easiest and now they cry about the same narritive being used agianst them
That's how life is. Everyone is focused on discrediting everyone else's accomplishments rather than trying to accomplish something themselves. smh
haha i liked the meta green screen moment
I wish I had the camera audio I would have used that.
Quality content 🔝
thank you brother
i love these kind of videos
I'm glad you like em
I agree. I'd like to see them increase the roster size as opposed to shorten the season.
@@whatslaps Never thought of that. Great idea.
But the medial narrative would have to adjust. More focus on the teams and coaching staffs as mvps.
The constant "THAT guy or bust" superstar hyping is boring anyway (to fans of the sport at least), I think.
Yo man do you play bball at all or do u just watch it?
I should play more. I do play though. I'm a pretty good finisher
There’s something slightly off with these thumbnails… 🤨 like there’s a theme or something, going on… 🤔
you'll figure it out soon ;)
Nah, untrue. Like the 15 Warriors don't win if Kyrie or even Kevin Love played in the finals. Or the Raptors wouldn't win the 19 finals if KD and Klay weren't hurt in the series.
that's true that's true
Super underrated
what's the appropriate rating?
I agree, if a team wasn’t good enough to win, they wouldn’t have, Injuries definitely can potentially sway a series, but if you’re an indisciplined team, it won’t matter, look at Boston last year, they had a clear talent advantage over Miami, but Miami was better coached and had better excecution than them
Yeah, it's a mix of everything. Talent, preparation, teamwork, and luck.
KP played the first couple of games and JB missed the 2021 playoffs w wrist surgery
my bad my bad. good catch

82 games is too much, I know U also got 30 teams but still, make the season 72 or 62 games
I love all the games.
I'm surprised you have so few subscribers compared to the quality of the videos
Thanks! the subs are going up
Jordan had rhe easiest run to the Finals in the weakest NBA ers of expansion

Let’s glaze a team that has only beaten teams without their best player. Like that is what they were expected to do
Glazers gotta glaze something. it's what we do.
Ur really sad we missed out on those 1 extra ganes per series max huh
Knicks fan here but we are cursed because James Dolan is a POS. Once he sells the team we will be back.
THe DOlan hate has cooled a bit

Cut the regular season games in half. All my homies agree there are too many games. It's literally a meme that nobody watches them all. It would make each game matter more, players will be more rested and less beaten up by the playoffs
This will never happen tho because capitalism
I watch them ;)
Giving credit to the Boston Celtics? 😂
gotta show respect to the work
