Wenbenyama is actually 7’4” BAREFOOT, 7’5” with sneakers and has an 8’ foot wingspan. Barring injury, this guy is gonna be a monster. I can’t wait to see him in the league! I have faith he’ll manage to stay healthy cause he seems very graceful, smooth and coordinated, unlike most players that size, he doesn’t seem to be struggling to move around.

Bulking up might affect his grace though. Kids got to min/max his bulk to fluid ratio whilst trying to stay out of injury’s way.

At 6'6" I am rarely the shortest person in the room. However I will never forget playing pickup at the UVA gym and after the NCAA tournament, a bunch of the guys came in to play. I felt somewhat normal next to 7'0" Mike Tobey, 6'10" Jack Salt, and 6'8" Isaiah Wilkins. It was a surreal experience.
It’s not just his height that’s impressive; it’s his balanced frame. Most guys that tall are skinny sticks. This kid has some actual muscle to match his elevation.
He does, but he don’t. Dude is still sticks in comparison to who he will see in the league. The likes of Giannis, Joker, and Embiid will absolutely ragdoll him in his current state. There’s only been one true GIANT (I’d say 7’3” and over because KAJ was 7’2” and didn’t look ANYTHING like the “giants” of any time after him) to walk in and make a huge statement, and his name is Yao Ming. Yao was actually big in his overall stature. Victor is an absolute stick right now in comparison to who he will play against.

He has some muscle definition but he's still a stick figure relatively speaking. What's impressive & seemingly unique to him when compared to similar sized players is his body control. He's remarkably fluid & coordinated for someone that tall. That's what sets him apart. He moves like a 7'3 KD which is insane.
@@comserklimp7527 not like this. Not even close. Giannis was still riddled with muscle literally everywhere. He just needed more time in the gym to develop the base he had already made. Victor, while yes is muscular because he doesn’t have a choice but to be because of physical activity and metabolism (I was actually JUST like this at his age, only shorter), he legit looks identical to Shawn Bradley. People have to stop with this shit about him taking anything over. Hakeem the Dream set a standard for big men outside the box. Dirk tweaked it. They’re trying to hype him into the next massive big man and honestly, he better bulk up or shoot better than Dream or Dirk or else he’s just not it.

Without bulk, his height makes him vulnerable. But with any bulk comes extra weight on his feet and knees, even if he's still pretty lean. I hope he's not doomed.

He died from an infection I believe, he wore leg braces and 1 caused a cut or blister that got infected if I'm not mistaken and he died from that

It's always the feet or the knees at those heights. I have to imagine they have ways to do scans, MRI's, that can tell the quality of the guy's connective tissues, bones, etc. I hate to say it but the first time I saw this kid I thought "eh... too tall. Gonna break".

It's bizarre to me that nobody since has mastered the sky hook. Kareem offered to teach it to many players, but they never took it seriously enough.

82 games a season and 15 people per roster with 30 teams in the NBA. This is not including playoffs which are obviously more games. Every NBA fan is rooting for this guy and we all hope he has a long and healthy career. We love basketball and we just want to see the best players play.
I hope he stays healthy because it is really fascinating to see a guy that six’s have such agility. Natural playmaker with size and speed that can make up for any defensive mishaps is a GMs wet dream
When I was really young my favorite player in the nba was mugsy bogues. I think he was 5’3”. I was nearly 5’3” that’s why I was such a big fan of his. He was amazing
I know it’s almost a year late but I haven’t seen anyone comment this. 5:28 Robert was low wasnt 40/50 when he died he was 22. And he was a staggering 8 foot 11 😳 and no the Chinese guy didn’t overtake him for the tallest person in the world, wadlow still holds the record.
If i remember correctly, He's always been a tall kid, but grew at a steady pace. So his coordination as always been smooth.
Unlike a lot of guys that have a huge growth spurt over a short period, and have a hard time adjusting.
i can 100% confirm it's much easier to make a shot on a rim that 'gives' a little. much softer bounce off any part of the ring.
with a very firm rim, you basically have to make nothing but net (if there is a net) or you have almost no chance of rimming it in
cool little thing about Wemby, i heard he's been working with someone extensively on how to do things like land in an optimized way, to reduce injury risk. if he can stay healthy, this kid is gonna be a great player. he's got a great mental too, heard him talk about how he worked on his jumpshot form for YEARS, changing it. exactly why it looks so nice, and why he can shoot at such a high percentage at his height

If I’m the spurs I might not even play him this year. I’d completely focus on developing his body the next 2 years. I’d have him practice against the starters. To try to keep his skills sharp and then introduce him to the league when he’s more durable

Modern medicine has made it far more manageable to heal from serious injuries, but we’re really any better at preventing them.

It appears that players that tall are ultimately doomed to a short career. There is something to said about young men that experience fast growth spurts will have serious knee and ankle problems. It's as if the ankle and especially knee bones, joints and legiments suffer immature development. Then you compound the hard court surface that they jump and land upon...it can't be good for compromised knees. They start off with great promise but their body betrays them.

I get why people worry about him potentially being an injury hazard because of his size but his athleticism and coordination and body shape works in his favor compared to all of those other big guys. Most big guys in that range are just clunky and disproportionate, including Yao Ming. Victor's just a taller Kevin Durant. I've never seen a big man move and shoot like him before.
Another thing that works in Victor's favor is just how damn soft the league is nowadays.
I just personally don't see this kid being injury riddled, I think his body is in proportion with his size. He just needs to hit the weight room.

@@edijs4d I was pretty much a Laker fan all the way through Kobe's career and when Shaq joined the Lakers, that was amazing as i was an Orlando Magic fan before that when Shaq played with Anfernee Hardaway. I know you guys are respectful and all that but it is true that the best athletes tend to be tall. As a shorter person than average I will never consider it a disadvantage. The tunnels during the Vietnam War that soldiers had to go down...had to be of small stature...regardless of what you think of the reason for the war...had a value that no "world class" athlete could ever have. So as a short person who will never consider myself a victim...I know that I have strengths that most professional athletes do not. We all have our strengths and weaknesses...it is only when we work together that we can make something special.

He is tall but not the tallest. There are over 7 NBA players over 7'5" the tallest being Gheorghe Muresan at 7' 7" and played for the Bullets. and started out with the new Jersey Nets. Not too many extremely tall players are Not plagued with injuries. Larry Bird was 6' 9" and had more injuries than any player but one of the Best players of the NBA.
extreme height is a deformity. It's almost guaranteed you will have health issues and athletics at a high level is almost always going to exacerbate it. I cringed watching some of these players. They always looked so fragile and here they were playing against shorter, but, athletically superior people and being bashed "in the paint" in the NBA. At least they made millions

I get what you guys are saying about the importance of size in different sports but that is not what this video is about. It's about the frailty of ultra tall guys in basketball. There are inherent problems playing a sport on hardwood floors. And it is going to be the most damaging to tall skinny players. Not to mention the born with problems of being super tall. such as heart and other things.
The big guys are probably targeted more because they are bigger threats, so not because they are inherently weak.

Everybody can think he’s going to be amazing and he may be for a little bit but his size will wear him down quicker and when he’s trying to push on guys in the nba 3 to 5 inches shorter then him but have 40 pounds on him and more muscles mass he’s not going to be as great if this was the nba of the 80s and 90s and parts of the early 2000s. With how soft and whining and less physical players are now he’s going to be fine and destroy everybody. Put him in the earlier years he is going to get smacked around.
