    Helpful video. Trying to decide between 3 series and 4 series myself.

    We have a 4720 with a 665 tiller, 400CX loader, and a 448 backhoe, with loaded tires and weights all around. It is a very reliable tractor, as it's lasted for ten years without a major break of any sort. Though it doesn't have a cab, it still is quite comfortable for where we live. Not to mention it'll do about any task we make it do for our 30 acre farm. Deere is a very long lasting tractor manufacture.

      Sounds like a nice machine and set up! Based on the very little trouble we have had out of 4510 I see no reason to expect less from any other JD CUT.

    My dad business has a 2014 Z950 with a 60inch deck a 2009 x729 that used to be at my house then we got a X730 for me and then a 3046R with a deluxe cab with s 74inch snowblower a front loader with a backhoe!

    I have a 3 series for the belly mower. The 4 series do not offer it. 5 series I have lill knowledge about it. That in I'm wondering if the 5 is over kill for the amount of Usable land I have. Also I never pulled a 3 point finish mower nore know witch would be better

    I also do a lot of research before I buy anything. It always pays to do the math and plan ahead to future plans when looking for equipment. I hate having to do things twice because of an oversight. You have a great looking machine there that should serve you well.

    Interesting comment on the 3 series cab being small because if I'm not mistaken, the 3 and 4 series uses the same cab.

    • @mmrbeef
      @mmrbeef  4 роки тому

      Correct, the cabs are almost identical (particularly when you look at the parts diagram). Some of the perceived size differences could very well be the seat the air suspension seat. Even now when I sit in a 3 series cab it "feels" smaller. Maybe I should say the cab on the 4066R sits up higher? Great point to make though.

  • @cd1168

    Yes sir I understand. I have a much simpler John Deere 990. Very reliable but no where near the machine you have. But the machine you picked is so expensive for a 4 series that I feel should of been considered. That machine you have is 50k. Which is very high. But thank you for the video

      After driving a truck with all the emissions crap on it I am used to it. The 4 series doesn't need DEF it just has the DPF... and I have seen very few issues with them based on the conversations with techs and folks who own/use them. Yes the rear PTO is standard, the e-PTO is an option.

    • @mmrbeef
      @mmrbeef  7 років тому

      Not at this time.... since you have to take it off every time you want to raise the hood I think it might be somewhat of a hindrance since I am a little fanatical about inspections and maintenance. But certainly something I thought about.

  • @mwnciboo

    I think what you've bought here is "Capability & Utility". Yes no doubt it costs a pretty penny, but I'm also sure you can hire, lease or borrow attachments off a kind neighbour, the important thing is your machine can take them, smaller machines are limited. Yeah your plot may not be 1000 acres, but in a small farm/small holding you need a "Jack of all trades" vehicle..So you can borrow a backhoe to dig a cable or pipe run, or do some land improvement with larger elements, or use your front loader for materials or building materials, or tow a trailer, or a lower HP mower etc. I think so long as you are happy, can afford it all power to you....I would just be a bit precious with it if i owned / leased it so the residual value didn't tank when you hand back / trade in or Sell.

    • @mmrbeef
      @mmrbeef  7 років тому +2

      Thanks! Yes "Capability and Utility" are two good words to use. I have already borrowed a couple of attachments and continuously have my eye on finding a few more attachments. The plan is for the 4066R to be around for a long time (15-20 years at minimum)

    I love how you never talk about money...like its no big deal and you just have more than you know what to do with. Money is prob what was the biggest factor if your honest

    • @mmrbeef
      @mmrbeef  7 років тому +3

      Money was a huge factor in this purchase I think that is a given, you don't run out and buy something like this on a whim (well I guess someone could if they wanted but they would most likely wait 6 weeks for delivery! lol). If I had determined a 5M or 5R would have been a better machine for my purposes I would have waiting until I could have afforded it. If it helps MSRP of the whole package as delivered was around $80/81,000. But it does no good to discuss priced paid because prices change, dealers are different, options are different. This very well could have been a $40/50/60,000 MSRP machine and looked exactly the same. If it was a 1 or 2 series machine hey then discussing price is a bit easier since there are fewer option and the machine is more geared toward the homeowner. The 4 series and the 3 series for that matter are geared toward a customer with larger needs or for a business. It's not that I am trying to be super secretive about how much something is, frankly this unit cost a lot of money... especially for a non-income earning application! But it was the best "deal" and we could afford it so it was the machine that was right for me.

      On 11 acres yes.... in the future we are planning on buying more property hence the consideration of a 5 series. A 6 was out due to size and the current shop.

      Yeah, that is a little overkill for the amount of land, but let me tell you from experience, a good sized heavy tractor will generally have a whole lot more odd job uses than a smaller one, expecialy with a FEL.

    we have a rather big front yard for a residential house. lot is 5 times bigger then much other houses around here. grandpa knew someone in a government office or else no way in hell back then in the 70s it could be parted from the farm property in that size lol. who says corruption dont work haha. but too the point. not much money when i grew up so wea cleared for hand for many years. good way to learn as a kid that life is hard work. then we got a 9hp walkbehind honda i used for many years. fantastic machine. no one should buy anything but a honda blower if gets a walkbehind.
    last spring we did a sort of a though thru impulse buy. a brand new New Holland td5-85 with a Duun tf200 pullbehind blover. got a Trima 2,1 loader with a hydro quick attatch also. kind of an overkill really, but need to clear the driveways of my sisters also ans need a decent size tractor with a loader for that. just waiting for a big snowfall to really test out the capacity of the blower.

    • @mmrbeef
      @mmrbeef  7 років тому +4

      chris devito the problem with discussing prices is every tractor/attachment set up will be different. This of course is confounded by dealer, time of year, current discounts, and year. Plus 5 years from now these prices will not be relevant. Those are my reasons for not discussing price. Not trying to hide anything. MSRP of the tractor, dealer added attachments and some of the attachments are around the web.

    Why not a 5055E?

    • @mmrbeef
      @mmrbeef  7 років тому

      Mostly the 5 series was out since my wife wanted a hydrostatic transmission. Also the E series lacks some of the options I wanted on my machine. On a dollar for dollar basis the 5E series just didn't stack up to the 4R for my uses and intents. But that is why Deere makes lots of models! I did look at the 5M... specifically the 5075M also drooled over the 5R series. Aside from my wife also not wanting a "geared" transmission, the 3 pt on the 5 series is a Cat 2, convertible to Cat 1.... the problem with that is finding Cat 1 implements that are beefy enough to handle that size machine is hard and I can't buy everything new!!

    @davidruth1 7 років тому +1

    A used two year old 5085 series E would have been the same price and a much better machine. The R machines a shit load more and in my opinion are fluff.

    • @mmrbeef
      @mmrbeef  7 років тому

      I think it would strictly depend on intended use and user. There are 3 reasons I opted not to run with a 5 series. First and foremost is the lack of a hydrostatic transmission. While not a big deal for me since I have an extensive history with a PowerReverse trans on a 4510 my wife feels more comfortable with a hydrostatic (as I outlined in the video for dropping the 5 series out of the running). Secondly is the Cat 2 3 pt. On the 5 series the 5085E only comes in a Cat 2 3 point but some of the smaller units can be dropped back to Cat 1. I have no desire to get into the cost of Cat 2 implements. The box blade I purchased with the 4066 is Cat 1/2 but mostly I only have cat 1 implements. Third is size.... a comparable hp machine 5065R weighs 7,165 lbs + attachments, weights, and loader... the 5085E weighs in a 8,150 lbs + attachments etc. Those weights along dictate that I would have needed to purchase a larger trailer (while that is a relatively small purchase compared to the tractor, it would be an additional expense). Additionally the length of the tractor itself, a 5085E is a little over 2.5 ft longer than the 4066R. That makes a big different in my shop. I will have to admit I looked at the 5E and M series pretty hard before ultimately deciding against them. Another factor, minor since most of it is hear say, is the continued issues with the transmissions in the E and M series. I will admit I drove a 5115R a couple weeks ago and that was a slick machine with the autoclutch... and so was the price tag at $127k..... so in the end for my use the 4066R was the machine to buy. BUT that is not the case for everyone.

    You can discuss prices all you want ........cat skid steerer will outwork a tractor all dam day long

    • @mmrbeef
      @mmrbeef  7 років тому +4

      E Landscaper well sure a skid steer can outwork a CUT in some cases! Same as a CUT can work run circles around a skid steer. It's all in the job you want the machine to do. Skid steers do no have a 3 point hitch and no 540 PTO.... That means they are pretty terrible at pulling grooming or brush mowers. So rather than make snide comments it would serve your argument better to actually make a case for a skid steer.
