- I have something really special to share today-another previously lost Sir David Attenborough narrated documentary titled "Secrets of the Screen"! Like "Hands on History," this documentary film was commissioned by the British Museum in the early 2000s and tells the story of the conservation and restoration of a rare 18th-century folding screen painted by Utagawa Toyoharu by the British Museum conservationists. It is very well made and does a great job of showing the skill and care that goes into the restoration of the pieces you see in museums, along with all the work and planning that goes on behind the scenes. These conservationists are truly the unsung heroes of these museums, and I hope this documentary will make people think more about the work that is done to allow them to enjoy these amazing art pieces.
This is another one of those documentaries that was on my missing list for a while, and I was only able to acquire it thanks to the help and generosity of a former crew member. It is truly a shame that these old documentary films often get completely lost to time, and I hope that people will make a habit of contacting me when they have very hard-to-find documentaries that they hope won't disappear.
As usual, the full video is available to download on my Internet Archive page.
Have you ever seen a Jim Henson show called Jim Henson's Animal Jam?
Not really, but what does it have to do with an old David Attenborough documentary though?😅
@@skinnyvthebasementarchivist Sorry it’s just I thought you collected old 📼s.
@UnicornFairy42 Sorry but I sadly never came accross recordings of that show.
