Togain has started a Maplestory content revolution and I am so here for it. Enough of the weekly boss videos, liberation quests, and tier lists. Now somebody needs to make documentary-style videos on the first parties to clear the (then) end-game bosses.
"OSMS" content is milking nostalgia that will be boring eventually. No hate to the creators like Togain and Kana but it's quite apparent especially on Togain's channel where his viewership has drastic drops between popular nostalgic class documentaries vs video essays about his thoughts. First clear content especially is gonna flop in viewership.

One scam I haven’t seen mentioned here, I ran into 2 times in all my years of maplestory. Random guy would chat me and story short, ask me if I wanted his other accounts because he wanted “to focus on his main account”. They would give you the account info with some nice characters on it (with nothing valuable on them), let you fund it, and then recover the account and keep everything you put on it. Absolutely DEVASTATED me the first time this happened to me. Second time this happened to me, I immediately logged onto the account and proceeded to delete both their shadower and night lord characters, LMAO. I mean, it “was” my account, right? I remember leaving some “getrekt” kind of message by making level 1’s. It made up for getting screwed the first time around. 😂
I remember finding a scroll and not knowing what to do with it. A player said “hey let me take a look at it” so I traded it to him thinking that he’d give me some tips on what to do with it, all I saw was the scroll fail effect and he walked away, never to be seen again 😂
I was a legendary scammer, I convinced a guy named KJ that I was a girl for MONTHS. He gave me so much free stuff and mesos. Ended up revealing it eventually and we remained friends somehow.
This was on Zenith if anyone played there. I remember KJ was from Texas. Weird time in life. Also remember “buying NX” and asking for the code first, getting it, redeeming it and logging out. I don’t know how I never felt bad, considering small children were walking to their local store to buy an NX card, walking home all excited to get mesos for their NX, just to have it stolen from them. I was a small child too, but wow. Feels bad now
Gread vid! I was once trade scammed for my Cillbi in kerning city maybe 15 years ago. I cried to my parents until they got me in game mesos so I can buy them again. What a time

You forgot one scam, back in the day, upon holding "q" button for quest, it would cause the game to lag on your end, you have players stand far away and drop items, and while you hold q, + loot button key and move towards the player, it would appear you are walking towards them when they had dropped their items, but on your screen you would already be there looting, so it was like you were hacking and the items flying to you.
I'll never forget this one time I did drop game in the Henesys pot shop, I dropped something semi valuable and got it back, dude dropped something really rare so I one upped him by dropping my Steelys that I just spent $20 ro get and he vacuum hacked them across the shop and disappeared I was so depressed 😭
I remember at Dangerous Valley in Bera I was training my dexless sin and a high level hermit came. He convinced me that he was going to drop ilbis if I dropped my Steelys. He showed me the ilbis and quickly picked them back up. I dropped my Steelys and he item vacced them instantly from across the map Lol
Hi Kana thanks for this content, found it so funny cause it use to happen to me when i was a kid playing this!! but i came up with something i dont think i would call it a scam but i as able to get really good/godly items from it at times, I use to pretend to AFK at the FM the portal and track(right click save player name and then ./track said player) players as they come though the channel, once they go in a random FM room and changed channel right away i would also change channel and follow them, then if they were in there for awhile and went offline (most often to trade items to their other chrarcters) i would go in real quick and loot the items and most of the time they would drop the items at the FM room portal so you can't see it. My friends as kids couldnt believe all the amazing items i got from it but it also comes down to chance cause you can only AFK at one channel and hope that channel has the victim come through :) i hope you and any old school maplers found this interesting hehe and im sorry if one of you guys were a victim i use to play on BERA :)

Without doubt my favourite scam went like this: Stand in FM (not ch1), wait for a character to appear and clearly be heading to one of the rooms, quickly catching their IGN. Begin with the /find ign... Repeat /find which will soon say which room they enter. Cc to any other channel, then enter the room said ign entered (on different cc) Now spam /find until 'cant be found' and quickly cc to the channel they were on. Proceed to pick up items said ign dropped (which would be fairly often as they were dropping for an alt etc.) Cc before or when you see said alt appear on screen. Yoink. Not something I would do these days but ngl it was pretty damn funny at the time. (Btw, no idea if anyone else ever done this)

Good thing Work Gloves aren’t needed anymore because of useful systems like Legion and Link Skills. I am almost 8K Legion. I have to get almost 20 characters to level 200. They are all 180+

Oh my god your video brought back such a deep seated memory. I had a form of the drop game done to me, but the amount of planning was absurd. Back in the early days of the game I was probably like 12, and some random girl approached me and started talking to me. We ended up talking for about a week and she asked if I wanted to be her "boyfriend". Being a literal child, of course having an online girlfriend was gonna make me the coolest person ever. I say yes and we continue talking. Probably like a week later she asked me to come to the henesys potion shop because she wanted to see some of my items. I go over to her at the left side, drop my items and immediately someone popped out from the wall and loots them. She says that thats her "brother" and that she couldn't believe I was that stupid. 2 weeks of effort from 2 people... to steal what I assume at the time were probably pretty low level items. All I remember is that I lost my precious frozen tuna... Loved the video. Its awesome to see that people still talk about this game and the early versions. Instant sub

I myself have witnessed the whole trade dupe scam of typing “y” and also falling victim to drop game (they took me to the hidden dungeon and kicked me out of the party after I dropped an item which kicked me out of the map). Funny enough, some big exploit happened and Nexon had to do a complete rollback on that day and I got my item back

The few times I got scammed, were the ones I remembered the most.... First time, back when I was a dumb kid who didn't know how to type fast, I got tricked into "duplicating" items via a trade. The scammer would say to put up the item and type M A P L E S T O R Y in all-caps and press enter twice. I guess it really relied on dumb kids who had to look down at their keyboard to pull off but that's how I lost my Pan Lid. Second time, I didn't know to pick up items while sitting, you had to press 0 on the numpad (it was also Pick up but it worked for some reason while sitting) and someone in Henesys goaded me to a drop game while sitting and he yoinked my Red Whip right in front of me while I was frantically spamming the pick up key (Z by default) wondering why it didn't work.

On World of Warcraft, trade scams cannot occur because crafting and enhancement can be done by the other player selling it within the trade window. No items are actually traded and both get what they want.
The best thing with these scams (and Runescape scams xD) was that we learned cyber security and to be wary of things that sound to good in real life as well! With that said I still want my 50m back for the Z-helm run I wa promised xD
this goes hard. I used to fame scam and do another scam you didnt cover in this video. There were these double exp 7/11 codes and i would go to 7/11 and take pictures of the codes, and sell them for in game mesos to people. i used to scam people for them aswell, i only gave away about 1/4th of the codes i got. ty for posting about this, when i grew up i realized how lame scamming on maplestory was.

A scam missed was using the MTS. If youre name was a very specific number of pixels long it would make the true price hidden looking like a deal. People unknowingly bought inflated items. Ex. 11,111 NX True 1,111 NX Shown
There's another drop game scam of being together in a party and just starting a drop game as a leader, then going in the pq while the victim drops an item , and have another player ready to collect it once you go in
The scam at 13:00 was very prevalent in runescape, I remember two people would stand on opposite sides of the grand exchange doing that, I don't know if I ever saw it in maple though.
Honestly looks like you've been making content for 10 years already, that's how good and in-depth this video is. Great job! I remember one time someone promised to give me NX, all I had to do was give them my login information. 15 minutes later I logged back in to see a whole bunch of my characters in underwear. I have yet to recover.
How about blink for loot scams? Where people blink for loot, one wins blink and the party leader doesn't pass lead and doesn't change loot settings, then for someone to steal loot.
I was a huge scammer in maplestory. I used to scam the family double exp strat. Xp first and then money, then switch channels and go to the halloween map and farm xp.
a buddy i know, and his brother use to do drop game, and trading scam in free-market, honestly i was younger and didnt' care much for how it works, but it works. they got a lot of rare items back then. pink cape, evey colors of work gloves with perfect scroll attack stats, a bunch of dexless stuffs, and attack snow shoes. Also, they were successfully manage to get some player account with high level character... such as DK, and Chief bandits... Not going to lied, I was playing on some of the account they had acquired... but i stop because It not fun playing on an account that wasn't my own.
Back in the day you could have 3 characters per server per account, and if i got scammed on a Fame trade i would get on my other accounts, which added up to 24 characters, and o would track and defame the hell out of them. Bonus if i noticed them a month later to re defame them. Defame revenge was the way to go. Alternatively when someone paid well for a fame or gave me a channel spot for training, i would fame them on all characters.
My child self was a victim of NX scam >:'3 but instead of even being given a code, the person just told me that the NX would show up in my account, and I believed them!!! I will never forget the scrolled pole arm they took from me :c
i was one of the victims for nx scams :c plus i lost my account, it hurt me a lot because my character was lv 52 back in 2004 , goshhh i was 12 y/o back in the day, thanks to that i learn that i cant trust anyone online
You forgot the scam of selling items with the same name, I remember buying eye of fire which was not the regular eye of fire that could not be used to summon zakum...
I only ever got scammed twice in maplestory 1st was someone coming up to me pretending to be someone that I knew and just agreeing with the first name I said and coming up with a story of how they made this new character I played with them for a few hours building trust until I was convinced it was them then they asked to use an item and I let them then they gave it back and asked to borrow my 20att gloves and stole them 2nd time I got scammed was by my irl friend who sold me his account after he quit for irl money then a few months later hacked the account and stole everything and sold it all then came back to the game and magically had billions of mesos which he claimed was all made in a week or 2 in the fm
i remember someone telling me to drop an item somewhere safe, i did and they used a teleport spell to get it and run away :') (I only lost a garbage gear piece thankfully)
The biggest scam of all was nexon deleting duped items and saying they couldn't do anything about it, I miss you my innocent gollux ring I bought from a stranger with my hard earned mesos.

Oh I remember a classic phishing scam in game. A female character who got real friendly, asked where I lived, said she was just moving there and wanted to be my GF. My young ass could not resist and when she wanted my account deets, who was I to say no?
Back in the day i got got with the hidden 3rd player drop game scam, though in my case they were claiming to show me how to dupe items. told me to drop my gear on a certain spot and then as soon as i did the 3rd player stepped out and grabbed it all! god i was dumb as a kid 😂😂

I used to fame scam and do another scam you didnt cover in this video.
There were these double exp 7/11 codes and i would go to 7/11 and take pictures of the codes, and sell them for in game mesos to people.
i used to scam people for them aswell, i only gave away about 1/4th of the codes i got.
ty for posting about this, when i grew up i realized how lame scamming on maplestory was.

A scam missed was using the MTS. If youre name was a very specific number of pixels long it would make the true price hidden looking like a deal. People unknowingly bought inflated items.

I remember falling for a few of these. Definitely some hard life lessons
being scammed on maplestory as a kid taught me the concept of "too good to be true" and not to trust anyone just cause their nice

There's another drop game scam of being together in a party and just starting a drop game as a leader,
then going in the pq while the victim drops an item , and have another player ready to collect it once you go in
When I was a kid, I did a drop game scam once and felt super terrible about it...😢 This was pre-big bang.

The scam at 13:00 was very prevalent in runescape, I remember two people would stand on opposite sides of the grand exchange doing that, I don't know if I ever saw it in maple though.

Honestly looks like you've been making content for 10 years already, that's how good and in-depth this video is. Great job! I remember one time someone promised to give me NX, all I had to do was give them my login information. 15 minutes later I logged back in to see a whole bunch of my characters in underwear. I have yet to recover.

I was a huge scammer in maplestory. I used to scam the family double exp strat. Xp first and then money, then switch channels and go to the halloween map and farm xp.

a buddy i know, and his brother use to do drop game, and trading scam in free-market, honestly i was younger and didnt' care much for how it works, but it works. they got a lot of rare items back then. pink cape, evey colors of work gloves with perfect scroll attack stats, a bunch of dexless stuffs, and attack snow shoes. Also, they were successfully manage to get some player account with high level character... such as DK, and Chief bandits... Not going to lied, I was playing on some of the account they had acquired... but i stop because It not fun playing on an account that wasn't my own.
Back in the day you could have 3 characters per server per account, and if i got scammed on a Fame trade i would get on my other accounts, which added up to 24 characters, and o would track and defame the hell out of them. Bonus if i noticed them a month later to re defame them. Defame revenge was the way to go. Alternatively when someone paid well for a fame or gave me a channel spot for training, i would fame them on all characters.
I still miss my steely’s that i grinded from red drakes, got scammed by one of my “buddy list” friends 😭

My child self was a victim of NX scam >:'3 but instead of even being given a code, the person just told me that the NX would show up in my account, and I believed them!!! I will never forget the scrolled pole arm they took from me :c

i was one of the victims for nx scams :c plus i lost my account, it hurt me a lot because my character was lv 52 back in 2004 , goshhh i was 12 y/o back in the day, thanks to that i learn that i cant trust anyone online

You forgot the scam of selling items with the same name, I remember buying eye of fire which was not the regular eye of fire that could not be used to summon zakum...

I only ever got scammed twice in maplestory 1st was someone coming up to me pretending to be someone that I knew and just agreeing with the first name I said and coming up with a story of how they made this new character I played with them for a few hours building trust until I was convinced it was them then they asked to use an item and I let them then they gave it back and asked to borrow my 20att gloves and stole them
2nd time I got scammed was by my irl friend who sold me his account after he quit for irl money then a few months later hacked the account and stole everything and sold it all then came back to the game and magically had billions of mesos which he claimed was all made in a week or 2 in the fm
Wow I actually read about some of these while doing research for the video! It's insane how people came up with these methods, they were so creative 😭

The biggest scam of all was nexon deleting duped items and saying they couldn't do anything about it, I miss you my innocent gollux ring I bought from a stranger with my hard earned mesos.

Oh I remember a classic phishing scam in game. A female character who got real friendly, asked where I lived, said she was just moving there and wanted to be my GF. My young ass could not resist and when she wanted my account deets, who was I to say no?

Back in the day i got got with the hidden 3rd player drop game scam, though in my case they were claiming to show me how to dupe items. told me to drop my gear on a certain spot and then as soon as i did the 3rd player stepped out and grabbed it all! god i was dumb as a kid 😂😂
