Just "upgraded" from the GoPro11 to the Osmo Pocket 3. One of the biggest reasons was for the image quality, especially for low light the pocket 3 has been amazing. I also love that touch of blur in the background (Bokeh). I already have 2 DJI drones & planning to get the Action 5 pro too for wet and more extreme filming. The Internal storage was already a thing; about once a year I forget to insert the memory card and I didn't have it this time (last week). Recording with the DJI Mic 2 is a big plus! In general I am very happy with it. I notice that it's less noticeable then walking around with an action cam (this is important for me).
Great timing on this and many thanks for the in depth thoughts on this. I’ve been floating this camera for a little bit recently and this just sealed the deal for me.
Regarding the 1/4 mount -- I had the exact same thing happen to me! I literally had the tripod and the camera ready to go, and found out I forgot to pack the mount. I had to handhold the entire time and that was a bummer. I got better at remembering, but it was a painful lesson to learn.
Agree with your points re water, replaceable battery and spot metering (with exposure lock). I'd like focus lock as well. And (although I have an add-on macro lens thing) I'd like a better zoom, close up facility, and a better way to alter zoom than that nub thing which always seems to be in rotation mode when I want zoom and in zoom mode when I want rotation!
It’s not a huge screen, but you can use your watch (if you have one) as a front mounted screen and controller. I tried it a few times and it’s super cool
This was wonderful. Thank you, I have been tempted for a few weeks and have an overseas trip coming up in April. An old bloke with some mobility issues so I am happy to subscribe. Looks like a self Chrissy present for me.
Do you still have your first Pocket 3? One time I was out in a slight rainfall. A very small amount of drizzle got on it, but did no harm. If you still have the first Pocket 3, did you try the dry rice thing? A few years ago, I had some camera or small electronic device (I honestly don't remember which) that had stopped working because it got a bit wet. Anyway I read about putting it into a bag of dry rice for 24 hours, and that would absorb any moisture somehow. Sounded ridiculous to me, but... it worked! Though there were no specific instructions, I pretty much covered the device with the rice inside the plastic bag.
I bought it the first 10mins it was launched and been loving it ever since. For my usage, I do find it hard to imagine what they could add to the Pocket 4 that would make me want to upgrade. Yeah it is THAT good. I also appreciate the points you raised versus the iPhone, those are great points indeed.
Maybe a 4 axis gimble for the Pocket 4? Meaning the up and down movement for when you’re walking. I get that with attachments it can be helped, but nothing beats built in axis control!
Out of the Osmo Pocket 3, Action 5, and Insta360 Ace Pro 2, which would you recommend for family travel and every day videos? I'd like something to record my family/toddlers with aside from my phone but can't make up my mind! Id so appreciate if you could provide any input!
IT Director here: One thing about internal memory is that unless it's a separate physical module from the operating system, it could lead to the camera becoming unusable more quickly. All storage mediums have a limited lifespan based on the number of reads and writes. It's usually quite high, but video files are one of the most intensive read/write applications and I can image this could be an issue for heavy users. I'll have to post on DJI's forum to see if the internal storage on the Action 5 is on a separate physical module than the OS.
@@bluetysproductions honestly, I wouldn't let that affect your decision If it's the camera that you want. It's an extra feature that I wouldn't personally use over a removable SD card. I would say as long as you don't use it heavily you will be fine for many years.
It looks like you have a strap for your phone. Which one do you have? I'm trying to find a good phone strap for either wrist or around my neck. Great video, thank you!
Thank you for your videos throughout this year 2024, They have been very informative and more to the point appreciated. I happen not to own the Pocket 3 Gimble as of the moment but I do like to keep in the know-how of this particular miniature camera for future reference. My interests first is to purchase and own the new DJI Action 5 camera alongside my Sony ZV-E10 camera. Have a wonderful Christmas and I look forward to more of your videos in the Newyear 2025. I don’t often comment but rest assured you always receive a thumbs up for all your effort, Take Care from me Steve here in the UK 😊
SOOOOO helpful! Can’t decide on whether or not get this or the Sony Alpha ZV-E10 - APS-C Interchangeable Lens Mirrorless Vlog Camera Kit. They are both the same price. But what I’d love is something small & not very noticeable like the Osmo pocket 3. Ideally I think eventually I will get both but am thinking the Osmo will be 1st to carry around vlogging the mountains this winter. Is the Sony Alpha ZV-E10 - APS-C Interchangeable Lens Mirrorless Vlog Camera Kit worth it? Was assuming this would be best for in studio/in house vlogging
Thanks for the review! I have the new osmo action 5 pro and use it for reviews and vlogs. I have been thinking about getting the pocket 3 to see if it might work better than the a5p, but am just not sold yet. The a5p is a beast of a camera. My question is, can you connect 2 dji mic2 mics at the same time, like we can with the osmo action 5 pro? Thanks again!
4:3 shooting, maybe an almost action camera FOV, bigger grip with bigger battery, zoom, faster photo processing, 12MP sensor, vertical mode through motor or at least the 4:3 for nicer vertical crop and so much more I wish for the Pocket to do. Zoom is probably out of the question tho. Still tryna look for that one point and shoot to replace my smartphone but seeing the RX100 VII is the last of it's kind with no update and action cameras cameras are ultrawide, I guess I'll stick with two devices. Heck even camcorders are on my radars.
Love the camera, the one annoying this is how precisely you have to use your fingernail to pop the micro SD card in or out, I worry about the gimbal/lens head too, the carrying sheath is not as precisely fitted as it should be and you have to carefully put the camera in and pull it out to avoid jostling the head
Nice video. Anything over 4K isn’t really viable for me to use for UA-cam as the file size is so big. We’re in the country and don’t have good upload speed. A 4K video over 15 minutes long takes about 3 days to upload.
Bought first gen (ok)... Pocket 3 embarrassed to say... been collecting dust! Would like to use it more but I don't like the flimsy extra battery (it feels as if it will fall off) and the "weatherproof" inabilities. I'd probably buy 3 of these but not a fan of its lack of ruggedness. Need to use it more. Your video has motivated me to use it more! Have you heard any rumors of a next gen coming? May get the DJI Action 5??? Thanks for your pumping out nice reviews. Not hyped... real user feedback. Cheers from Japan!
Thank you so much for this video, I am new to this but I have travel plans coming up and I would really like to be able to get good video clips to bring back and share it with family and friends and possibly social media too! I am so happy to see there is a glamour effect built in here, I don't wear much makeup but would like to look nicer LOL I am curious to know does the insta360 ace pro 2 also have any kind of glamour effect built in? I keep going back and forth between the DJI pocket 3 and the Insta 360 ACE PRO. I like everything I have seen so far about the 360 ace pro 2 except for having some kind of skin perfecting or smoothing effect.
I’m definitely waiting for the Pocket 4 at this point. Would love to see those improvements you mentioned show up when that camera does drop, hopefully soon! Great video as always!
I bought the Pocket 2 last summer with discount instead of the full price Pocket 3 because of the photo resolution. The Pocket 2 is much more than the Pocket 3. Of course the 'Pocket 4' will have a better photo mode, that's how a brand is selling each time a 'new' model ... Otherwise why doesn't have the Pocket 3 all the better specs of the Pocket 2?
No--you'd just have to position yourself far enough from the camera to prevent the blur. The ability to manipulate the aperture (control background blur) is another point to add to the wish list.
I much prefer if I DONT see the transmitter on the person,. I find it distracting and prefer it hidden. especially if it has a fluffy noise reducing mop on the top,
That's fair, I think it's a matter of preference. I often prefer the convenience of just clipping the TX to myself, but it definitely doesn't look as nice.
#1 reason I don't like this camera is BLUR the background. Travel to a beautiful place scenery and you talk to the camera, you don't see anything clear except your face. that is suck.

Thanks for that one year review - they are great in my opinion.
My g/f wants me to buy her a DJI pocket 3 and you pointed out the pros and cons.
One of my favorite cameras the last few years, the quality for size is amazing.

Hows the pocket 3 after so many months of usage?
@@RuiNemesys for me.. fantastic and for the price, nothing comes near when it comes to compact, low light (indoor) and seemless audio connection.

@TimBrownTown would love to see a follow-up on that please. I am heavily considering the Action 5 Pro due to staying within the DJI ecosystem. Thanks!

Did you have to purchase a new one or did a warranty cover the Pocket 3?
Warranty covered it. There may have been a small fee for replacement, but it was much cheaper than buying a new one.
@@Gemini_Connect That's good. Definitely one I'd invest in the extended warranty on. Have a great weekend.
The image quality is so close to a pro cam it's crazy.

Yes, the Pocket 3 allows for connecting up to 2 DJI Mic 2s.
On your iPhone is that the thingy that reduces the radiation coming from the phone?
