    I think this is great. I fully support non-animal model research studies. I hope more companies work toward these types of solutions that are feasible and humane. We know animals are intelligent, especially primates. We know they feel pain, we know they feel fear, and we know they suffer. There is no excuse to carry on animal testing when alternatives are available. And every effort should be made to continue to discover new non-animal models of testing. Animal testing is antiquated and barbaric. I hope we can evolve enough as a society to look at what we are doing to other living beings and choose to change that wholly and permanently.

    The Animal Model should be dropped now, if something does not work than it should be abandoned now. Here is hoping the UK will catch up soon on the vision of medical research in par with other countries.

    I would like the company to mention that their invention is also ethical! (along with being cheaper and convenient etc) Great idea! Hope for the end of animal testing...

      Thanks for sharing the article! I am ignorant on the topic, but I do seem to see two potential issues arising, one being that the synthetic brain isn't sophisticated enough to replicate a human brain in whatever relevant respect, or alternatively, to combat the aforementioned problem, they make the brain so sophisticated that they somehow make it conscious in which case ethical issues arise about whether or not this brain can feel pain and what implications that might have

      Me too! Good to se there are more people like this

    • @zakosist

      ***** well personally, i'm strictly against testing on any animal able to feel pain and emotions as they can then suffer equally to us during the experiments, and many of the experiments may cause great suffering to the animals. I'm not using any medicines currently, but even if I got so seek that I needed it I would consider boycotting if it could have an actual impact on (getting rid of) animal testing.
      If there is no impact then I would still use the medicine because there is nothing to win, even for the animal, by boycotting (and afterall the medicines may get me healthy).
      When it comes to meat eating I think organic meat where the animals have a relatively good life is okay, I think animals on organic farms suffer WAY less than test animals exposed to cruel experiments. But also here I will only directly boycott if I can control mayorey of the purchases in my household, which I dont do currently, but soon will when I move to myself.
      I also think a big fault in most humans, as i see it, is that we way too easily favorise our own. I mean animal testing is ecually crual as testing on humans. But Im qutie sure that for example if the "distinction" didnt go between human or animals testing, but insted if wether we should test on those who came from europe or outside europe, then almost all europeans would very clearly want those outside europe tested on to not risk harm on themselves or their loved ones. Same goes for Africa, Asia or America for that sake...

    • @zakosist
      @zakosist 9 років тому

      ***** Another thing is that it would actually ALMOST be better to test on our own specie if the target is to cure your own specie. Because then the results would at least be more reliable. Different animals react differently to various chemicals and are exposed to different diseases. Just think of how severely sick dogs can get from eating chocolate, while for humans some dark chocolate may actually be healthy. I do in no way support testing on humans either, unless they do it off completely free will (without lacking understanding ofcourse) or have already gotten so severely sick that testing a new medicine could possibly save their life.
      I think animal testing is also okay in the few cases where the animals get severely sick by ACCIDENT and could possibbly get saved in the test.

    Fantastic! we already have such a great solution. Now im sure we could do alot of good research without animal testing and its only a question of time before animal testing get banished.
    However I would NEVER support these cruel animal experiments anyway, even if there wasn't a solution like this. Cause research is important, but never important enough to torture any living beings (nothing are) and it's not the slightest better when done to animals than humans or opposite for that sake.

    • @phillipisthebest26
      @phillipisthebest26 9 років тому

      I'm pretty sure you would prefer your own life over the life of an animal's so I would have to say you're wrong.

    • @zakosist
      @zakosist 9 років тому

      Phillip Daniel If it was up to me, I would end ALL cruel animal experiments even if it costed my life!
      So you are wrong about me. I think its just as cruel that animals get forced into these experiments as if a human were. Animals have emotions just like us, and they ALSO feel pain, hunger, cold, heat, thirst etc. Way to many of the experiments causes them great suffering independent of whether they understand what is going on. And its none less than a human would suffer. They don't quite need to philosophize to feel pain or fear, and can have just as strong feelings as us.
      If it was up to me I would end it along with any cruel treatment of a living being, whether they are humans or animals. I would never allow any living being to be tortured neither to save my own or someone elses life. But I absolutely support and work for caring for those who are sick or in need as far as it doesnt involve cruelty to someone else.

    • @phillipisthebest26
      @phillipisthebest26 9 років тому +1

      Dude, if it wasn't for testing on animals, you probably wouldn't even be alive today. Animal testing is what helped scientists create medical breakthroughs and cures that saved BILLIONS. I'd rather have an experimental drug go inside of animal than me because as a highly intelligent species, I could contribute more to this world than a dog, a cat, a sheep, etc. can. While in the process of testing on these animals, I would off course also try to find alternatives because I do indeed care for the lives of others, but I'll be damned if I let a highly intelligent species die by the millions just so I can save some fury little species who do nothing but eat, sleep, and shit all day.

    • @zakosist
      @zakosist 9 років тому

      Phillip Daniel Humanity survived for thousands of years before they started animal testing, so I could very well have been alive today even if there was none. This isn't even natural.
      And if you allow this to happen to other living beings, then you ALSO do more HARM than the animal itself does, which makes you no better. I see people who want to abuse their power to perform cruel treatment of other individuals as a LEAST as big damage as diseases itself.
      And humanity should have a specific responsibility for anyone under our power, including animals, simply because we have the most power and understanding as well. As said the animals suffer no less than we would, and humanity could possibly make the animal (or another human) suffer way more than they would in the nature (or at least for longer time) if we abuse our power.
      Besides animal tests can turn out misleading, just think about how dogs get severely sick from eating chocolate while for some humans a little dark chocolate may even be healthy. Same can be with multiple medicines and could go other way as well.
      The only case i think testing on something living may be okay is if they have gotten severely sick by accident (cause its never okay to cause it on purpose). then the cure you are trying out could possibly heal it, besides it cant become much worse from what it already is. If I ever got severely sick myself I would try out a new cure on the condition that its NOT tested on animals

    • @phillipisthebest26
      @phillipisthebest26 9 років тому

      You probably would still be alive, but I guarantee that your mortality rate would be a lot lower than it is today. I obviously would be harming someone, but it would be for a good cause and not to just abuse animals for the hell of it. And I'm not sure why you'd put yourself on an equal level with species that are not nearly as intelligent as you are. They're only suffering to better impact a more advanced species that can eventually leave them out of the equation once they've advanced in technologies. And yes, animals can be misleading, but when you live in a world where testing on yourself could lead to your death, that's the only alternative you can turn to. It's not accurate, but it gives us an idea of what we're working with. It would be very dangerous to try and test a cure on yourself knowing that you could possibly leave reality forever.
