Well yes, but at the same time imagine being virtually blind and horribly injured and probably starving, and then a couple of giants picking you up and taking you all kinds of places, grabbing you and tugging on your skin and touching your face. I think even a human in that situation would be on edge, so for an animal to go through this and never even hiss (even in the very first video!) is impressive.
@@Sonia-jk7lf LOL, cold-blooded doesn't mean their blood is chilly. They do not generate their own heat and rely on the environment, lots of reptiles perfer warm to hot temps which could result their blood being much warmer than yours!

I would try to give her a good soak before you try to remove the eyecaps to try and soften them up first before you try the qtips. I'm also going to second looking at Snake discovery! Be extremely gentle. Your goal should NOT be to peel it off. You gotta get her humidity way up and keep soaking her. Your only intervention should be a super gentle rub to assist with the shed coming off, not force it come off.
Yeah she’s obviously been left extremely dehydrated from those mites, and quite possibly anaemic too, from all the blood loss. Depending on how long she was in such a bad state, she might have been struggling to shed for a while. So I’m guessing she just needs some extra humidity until she recovers. Although you want to be careful of other diseases like mouth rot caused by too much humidity

See just letting yu know when a snake is suffering from skin infections and can’t shed yu had to help the snake shed it doesn’t hurt the snake so extremely gentle is kind of a drag and when yu want to take the eye caps off they have special tweezers for that
@@sarahnicole3206 ball pythons should have a humidity of around 60% in their enclosure because in the wild though they are from africa they spend most of their time in humid burrows... also a humid hide that you keep at a higher humidity is not a bad idea to make sure if they need it they can go get that humidity! The thing with humidity is that bacteria love it so you also have to make sure you are using the proper substrate that won’t mold easily or else that could definitely cause scale or mouth rot problems and you don’t want that!

We have two ball pythons and one, no matter what we do, always has a harder time shedding than the other. If he has retained eye caps, we will soak him and try to drip the warm water on his eyes from our fingertips for a few minutes and then gently try to rub the eye caps off with our fingers after they've softened a bit. This usually helps, and sometimes it takes two different times of trying this. There has been an occasion (recently) where we really couldn't get them off no matter what we did though and we just didn't want to stress him out anymore. Luckily, they came off with his next shed. Both of our ball pythons will hide for about a week when they are starting the shedding process, coming out minimally when they're normally active. Since it's been so dry with our furnace running, when we noticed this behavior when they started their last sheds, we misted just inside their hides a couple times a day (just when we saw the substate has dried out because scale rot can be a potential issue from keeping it overly humid/moist). Also during their last sheds, we misted them directly when we saw them out and it seemed to really help our snake that always has a hard time. We were able to see both eye caps in his shed & his eyes were very clear, so we knew both layers came off, which was a huge relief. Snake Discovery, Go Herping & Chris Hardwick have been great educational UA-cam channels/resources when I started to get more involved in our snakes' care. I really hope this all helps as you continue to rehab this snake!
At this point you should leave the eye caps alone. She will likely (if she isn’t already) she again very soon! Your care and the huge improvement to her conditions should aide in her eye caps coming off with her next shed. You are great people, and she is such a sweetheart.

Pythons can shed multiple times in a short period of time if they have damaged skin so she could be going through another cycle. With the trauma she has endured it would not surprise me. Glad she is being taken care of though :-)
I can't believe what a sweetheart she is! I don't think most snakes would sit still that long without squirming. She's an absolute angel. Her color does look very dull you might be on to something my rescue ball had terrible scale rot the moment I got it under control he shed back to back 3 times. There's a good possibility she's going into healing overdrive and just dumping energy into shedding off the damage.
in the video where she is actively shedding her colors are somewhat dull. It could be that she is unhealthy by way of parasite or something or just apart of her ball python morph as some morphs do look " Sheddy" all the time but since She just Shed like a week ago She shouldn't be starting to shed again. I could be wrong though.
@@serinawong3019 If the snake has damage to it's skin that is "dangerous" to the snakes life it can shed back to back until the skin is healed enough to keep infections out.
Get her humidity up (70-80%), continue to soak her, and let it come off naturally. You can assist (by very gently rubbing it) but you should never manually peel or remove a stuck shed as it can cause damage to the snake. Groups like Not Just a Pet Rock have great information about ball python husbandry and common issues (such as feeding issues or stuck shed). With ball pythons, it's all about the right conditions and LOTS of patience. She has a great temperament and is going to make an amazing pet
When you use the q-tip, just let it sit on the eye for a little while, or soak right before. It needs to be really moist when trying to GENTLY work it off. Just work the edges, and when one starts to come, just work it with a wet q-tip. It should come off pretty easily like that
Ask chandler! But it looks like she’s in shed again probably from healing. Shouldn’t have to use much force at all to remove shed or eye caps. Humidity and soaks.
i appreciate your desire to help. However, my advice would be that if the method isn't working, STOP. You can always try another method or let her soak/chill in a humid place and then try again
You definitely do not want to use too much force when removing stuck eyecaps. I have a rescued ball python who had a good four or five layers of stuck shed on his eyes. I placed actual drops of water on his eyes and let them sit for quite a while, adding on fresh drops every couple minutes. Then I took a wet q-tip and rolled it along the corner of his eye gently, not across the entire eye. The goal was to just see if the corner of the eyecap would even lift. This is what worked for me. Eyecaps have to be softened a ton before they will come off. You guys are doing such a great job with that cutie! She seems like such a sweet snake. Loving all the updates on her.
This baby girl is so well-behaved, and she's getting much more lively since the initial rescue. Watching her revover like this makes me so happy. I wish I could offer advice on the scales, but I'm confident that you all will make it through this. You two are very capable and she is a very strong girl.
Whenever you try to help a snake shedding, the direction should be from head to tail. And maybe using a cloth will help, because cloth got more texture to it that q tip or paper towel. It'll help to peel off the shed cap and it doesn't hurt their eyes.
She is absolutely gorgeous, and so well behaved! I can't believe she's so mellow after everything she's been through. I'm so glad she's doing so well, minus this eye cap problem anyways. I hope that gets resolved soon, I just love her. Im not even a snake person but I've fallen for this one.

I would honestly say let a vet try to take those eye caps off because with a snake and how delicate they can be it's probably better to take the safer way if you've never done it I have a corn snake and I always be sure when they're shedding to put enough humidity in there or make enough humidity just to be sure
She's gorgeous🙂💗She's been so calm and chill with you guys🙂💗she probably knows you're there for her and that you saved her🙂💗I've also read that using vitamin e oil helps to hydrate the skin for shed and helps the skin to shed off and a damp cloth helps a stuck shed cycle sometimes🙂💗I've never owned a snake but they're gorgeous creatures and I've held a perfectly healthy ball python at the pet shop and he had some patchy shed skin so literally asked to get a damp towel cloth and it helped him and I also gently peeled the stuck shed and he just moved and it came off with no issues🙂sometimes you can assist a snake if it has patchy shed cycle by soaking it and gently pulling the patchy stuck shed and the snake will move and it'll shed off🙂you just have to be gentle and take your time with assisting it's shed cycle if needed and be careful that it doesn't pull off any scales🙂just take your time and be careful gentle🙂💗

Right like this snake hasn't tried to bite them or anything that we've seen like my snakes would go crazy if I grabbed there head and bite the hell out me and they rescue a snake and has the calmest demeanor I've ever seen ..maybe she feels there helping her and doesnt wanna get dumped again by biting lol
Join Ball Python people on FB!! They have some of the best information out there when it comes to taking care of ball pythons!! The keepers there don’t tend to sugarcoat things which can rub people the wrong way at times but it’s because they truly know what their talking about and want the best for them! Theyre blunt but their methods work. I’ve seen so many snakes come back from the brink after following the advice from the admins of that group!
My ball python is three years old, and her previous owner obviously had some issues with the shed in the past, since her eye caps are slightly crinkled. The seller recommended that I use silicone finger covers to gently wipe at the caps. They said that they sell that at the dollar store, but they can be hard to find. They’re intended for crafting, as a sort of thimble to protect your finger tips against hot glue or something. I’m pretty sure you can find them on Amazon.

The ocular socket has a lip, that can hold it. The skin closest to her jaw can be pulled down slightly allowing the lip to release. Warm mineral oil on a q-tip before will help it release. If you keep a branch in her enclosure and humidity above 80% she'll get it off. Next shed if you assist the head pulling the jaw skin up as mentioned above will release the cap. She definitely looks Enchi Het Pied, she's got the reduced Alien Heads and Pied lines on her belly. I've got the perfect 14yr old daughter with two ball pythons that would love this girl in her collection.
We had the same issue with our snakes. We just added a little bit of Aloe Juice to their soak (since is one of the ingredients of the shed ease). It worked well with our male snake, but for our female it wasn’t enough, so we took a little piece of masking tape, placed it over her eye cap, massaged gently just enough to get it stuck and she actually started moving while we were holding the tape (otherwise you slowly peel the tape). This didn’t hurt her, but just for good measure we gave her some soaking in a bath with some betadine. It worked perfectly.

If my ball python has stuck eye caps I just wait for him to get ready to shed again then I will bath him in water, shed ease everyday for around 15 minutes until he completely sheds. It works and no issues at all
yea my bp has 1 eye cap that didnt come off and i cant get it off myself so im just leaving it until next shed. it will probably come off when he sheds again
She is gorgeous and honestly one of the best temperament for a snake. I wish I could take her myself honestly but I do think y'all should keep her for sure.
She is so well mannered. If I had the enclosure, I would take her in. She deserves a good life. I agree, I think she is going through shed again. Soak her daily and maybe help rehydrate her so it goes smoothly. Multiple layers of eye caps can come off all at once so a good shed should remove them.
What made you think snakes were means?? Have you just never handled one before? Pets are usually quite tame and friendly. I wouldn’t just go pick up a snake in the wild but admiring from 10-15ft is fine. They are scared of you so they will probably just try to flee. But if you rapidly approach them or corner them and they don’t think they can get away, ofc they will try to defend themselves. But they won’t go out of their way to attack you
I’ve seen a lot of snake keepers use vet prescribed eye drops to loosen up the eye caps and it works in a week or two!! It’s super safe for the snake , you should definitely check with your vet. Anyway I love how healthy she is now! Best of luck for you guys 💕💕
Another thing people use to get the eye caps off is using those rubber fingers (only like a dollar to buy a small box). Most use the rubber fingers for flipping through paperwork but it has helped me with shed issues. Always rub from the front of the face backward. There's also a spray thats for helping snakes shed more easily. It's more preemptive, before they shed, but you could use that before her next shed.
Snakes really aren’t something to be feared. They will never bother you unless you act threatening towards them (so like don’t approach wild snakes). And they will likely try to flee first anyways. They see you as a potential predator so they are just scared for their life and trying to defend themselves. They aren’t going to go out of their way to attack you like a wasp
Try putting her in a soak tub for a day or two. Like a good sized plastic storage container with a locking lid and shallow rock for her to rest on. Also use a small portion of her heat mat to keep the water warm. If you do this PLEASE leave a thermometer to keep track of the water temp. I used this method to take off some bad stuck shed on my ball python. My snakes shed wasn’t as bad as hers but this might help with humanity and hydration. Eye caps should slide off easily and not be peeled!!! Best of luck!
I don't know if you have gotten the eye caps off yet but like others have said, soaking helps soften them up and some sort of sticky glove helps a lot. Rubber gloves, nitrile gloves, etc. Not putting it on, just holding a finger flat between your fingers usually gives just enough grip to pull it from the sides to come off. You really want to be pretty gentle as possible. Snakes can often have 5 layers of stuck eye caps before taking damage to their eyes. It isn't a rush. :)
Not sure if you’ll even see this, but I work in a student research lab and we focus primarily on various species of snakes! Stuck eye caps can be really difficult. My professor usually tries to use tweezers to get slightly under the stuck eye cap and lift it gently off the eye. Definitely try soaking before doing this to make sure it is not dried completely on there! You could also wait until the next shed. The risk of getting infected is there, but if you can’t safely remove it, you might hurt the snake’s eye worse. I hope this helps!
Also, I own two ball pythons, and we had one with both eye caps stuck and they came off during the next shed with no problem. Of course, this isn’t the case every time so do try to get them off by hand. If nothing works, I’d wait until she sheds. (You might also see if that vet you went to can help!)
Dealing with eyes...even gentle rubbing is not pleasant I would have the vet do that part n Def keep the tank treated for the mites bc they multiply rapidly regardless of the abx and creams I'd Def use the tick treatment and your doing so amazing she looks wonderful!!! I think she is your baby girl now 🤗
I’m very grateful for people like you! It sucks how many people dump snakes in Florida, ball pythons they’re literally the easiest pets. Essentially pet rocks!!! I think it’s funny that everyone keeps commenting on her personality though being so chill because most balls I’ve met have been exactly like this 😅 anyways, my ball python had stuck eye caps a few months back and I know it sounds risky but I used a warm wet rag and some tweezers to remove the eye caps. I just pulled the eye caps in a slow direction and it went well.
My oldest boy, was once attacked by a rat, and it completely blinded him; his eye scale gets stuck all the time. I always use my finger, it’s ever so slightly moist. You definitely need to keep her temp high, the least she needs to be in is 75 degrees. Before jumping straight to rats also, feed her baby mice, not necessarily pinky mice but definitely something small and (alive) so she can start building her momentum and confidence to actually catch prey. Another great thing, is I know you don’t want the water dish with her, but since she’s a tropical snake, it wouldn’t hurt to start keeping her den(cage) damp. Just light misting from a spray bottle once a day would help immensely with that eye. And as I said, combined with a high temp natural to a rainforest, would definitely help. Without a water source inside the tank, it makes the enclosure very dry, even though it might not seem that way to us
One of my ball python’s had one eye cap stuck after her first shed this winter. She usually has two sheds over the winter so I knew there was another one coming and I was really adamant the second one would be perfect. I’m proud to say it was! 😆 She just shed like an hour ago and I can see her beautiful eyeball again 💛💛💛

Pythons can shed multiple times in a short period of time if they have damaged skin so she could be going through another cycle. With the trauma she has endured it would not surprise me. Glad she is being taken care of though :-)
I would recommand snake discovery's Video "How to Remove Stuck Shed on Snakes", she also talks about stuck eye caps :)
I can't believe what a sweetheart she is! I don't think most snakes would sit still that long without squirming. She's an absolute angel. Keep her humidity up, if she's going into shed again soon, maybe her eye caps will come off with the next shed. I'm super invested in this girl, I hope she continues to do well and fully recover! Her color does look very dull you might be on to something my rescue ball had terrible scale rot the moment I got it under control he shed back to back 3 times. There's a good possibility she's going into healing overdrive and just dumping energy into shedding off the damage.

in the video where she is actively shedding her colors are somewhat dull. It could be that she is unhealthy by way of parasite or something or just apart of her ball python morph as some morphs do look " Sheddy" all the time but since She just Shed like a week ago She shouldn't be starting to shed again. I could be wrong though.
@@serinawong3019 If the snake has damage to it's skin that is "dangerous" to the snakes life it can shed back to back until the skin is healed enough to keep infections out.

Get her humidity up (70-80%), continue to soak her, and let it come off naturally. You can assist (by very gently rubbing it) but you should never manually peel or remove a stuck shed as it can cause damage to the snake. Groups like Not Just a Pet Rock have great information about ball python husbandry and common issues (such as feeding issues or stuck shed). With ball pythons, it's all about the right conditions and LOTS of patience. She has a great temperament and is going to make an amazing pet
When you use the q-tip, just let it sit on the eye for a little while, or soak right before. It needs to be really moist when trying to GENTLY work it off. Just work the edges, and when one starts to come, just work it with a wet q-tip. It should come off pretty easily like that
Ask chandler! But it looks like she’s in shed again probably from healing. Shouldn’t have to use much force at all to remove shed or eye caps. Humidity and soaks.

i appreciate your desire to help. However, my advice would be that if the method isn't working, STOP. You can always try another method or let her soak/chill in a humid place and then try again

You definitely do not want to use too much force when removing stuck eyecaps. I have a rescued ball python who had a good four or five layers of stuck shed on his eyes. I placed actual drops of water on his eyes and let them sit for quite a while, adding on fresh drops every couple minutes. Then I took a wet q-tip and rolled it along the corner of his eye gently, not across the entire eye. The goal was to just see if the corner of the eyecap would even lift. This is what worked for me. Eyecaps have to be softened a ton before they will come off. You guys are doing such a great job with that cutie! She seems like such a sweet snake. Loving all the updates on her.
This baby girl is so well-behaved, and she's getting much more lively since the initial rescue. Watching her revover like this makes me so happy.
I wish I could offer advice on the scales, but I'm confident that you all will make it through this. You two are very capable and she is a very strong girl.
Whenever you try to help a snake shedding, the direction should be from head to tail. And maybe using a cloth will help, because cloth got more texture to it that q tip or paper towel. It'll help to peel off the shed cap and it doesn't hurt their eyes.

I would honestly say let a vet try to take those eye caps off because with a snake and how delicate they can be it's probably better to take the safer way if you've never done it I have a corn snake and I always be sure when they're shedding to put enough humidity in there or make enough humidity just to be sure
She's gorgeous🙂💗She's been so calm and chill with you guys🙂💗she probably knows you're there for her and that you saved her🙂💗I've also read that using vitamin e oil helps to hydrate the skin for shed and helps the skin to shed off and a damp cloth helps a stuck shed cycle sometimes🙂💗I've never owned a snake but they're gorgeous creatures and I've held a perfectly healthy ball python at the pet shop and he had some patchy shed skin so literally asked to get a damp towel cloth and it helped him and I also gently peeled the stuck shed and he just moved and it came off with no issues🙂sometimes you can assist a snake if it has patchy shed cycle by soaking it and gently pulling the patchy stuck shed and the snake will move and it'll shed off🙂you just have to be gentle and take your time with assisting it's shed cycle if needed and be careful that it doesn't pull off any scales🙂just take your time and be careful gentle🙂💗
Love that you guys rescued her. I did have a python once and gave to some one who wanted her. Definitely don’t just abandon pets. Worse thing you can do.

Right like this snake hasn't tried to bite them or anything that we've seen like my snakes would go crazy if I grabbed there head and bite the hell out me and they rescue a snake and has the calmest demeanor I've ever seen ..maybe she feels there helping her and doesnt wanna get dumped again by biting lol

Join Ball Python people on FB!! They have some of the best information out there when it comes to taking care of ball pythons!! The keepers there don’t tend to sugarcoat things which can rub people the wrong way at times but it’s because they truly know what their talking about and want the best for them! Theyre blunt but their methods work. I’ve seen so many snakes come back from the brink after following the advice from the admins of that group!

My ball python is three years old, and her previous owner obviously had some issues with the shed in the past, since her eye caps are slightly crinkled. The seller recommended that I use silicone finger covers to gently wipe at the caps. They said that they sell that at the dollar store, but they can be hard to find. They’re intended for crafting, as a sort of thimble to protect your finger tips against hot glue or something. I’m pretty sure you can find them on Amazon.

The ocular socket has a lip, that can hold it. The skin closest to her jaw can be pulled down slightly allowing the lip to release. Warm mineral oil on a q-tip before will help it release. If you keep a branch in her enclosure and humidity above 80% she'll get it off. Next shed if you assist the head pulling the jaw skin up as mentioned above will release the cap. She definitely looks Enchi Het Pied, she's got the reduced Alien Heads and Pied lines on her belly. I've got the perfect 14yr old daughter with two ball pythons that would love this girl in her collection.
We had the same issue with our snakes. We just added a little bit of Aloe Juice to their soak (since is one of the ingredients of the shed ease). It worked well with our male snake, but for our female it wasn’t enough, so we took a little piece of masking tape, placed it over her eye cap, massaged gently just enough to get it stuck and she actually started moving while we were holding the tape (otherwise you slowly peel the tape). This didn’t hurt her, but just for good measure we gave her some soaking in a bath with some betadine. It worked perfectly.

If my ball python has stuck eye caps I just wait for him to get ready to shed again then I will bath him in water, shed ease everyday for around 15 minutes until he completely sheds. It works and no issues at all
yea my bp has 1 eye cap that didnt come off and i cant get it off myself so im just leaving it until next shed. it will probably come off when he sheds again
She is gorgeous and honestly one of the best temperament for a snake. I wish I could take her myself honestly but I do think y'all should keep her for sure.
She is so well mannered. If I had the enclosure, I would take her in. She deserves a good life. I agree, I think she is going through shed again. Soak her daily and maybe help rehydrate her so it goes smoothly. Multiple layers of eye caps can come off all at once so a good shed should remove them.

What made you think snakes were means?? Have you just never handled one before? Pets are usually quite tame and friendly. I wouldn’t just go pick up a snake in the wild but admiring from 10-15ft is fine. They are scared of you so they will probably just try to flee. But if you rapidly approach them or corner them and they don’t think they can get away, ofc they will try to defend themselves. But they won’t go out of their way to attack you
I’ve seen a lot of snake keepers use vet prescribed eye drops to loosen up the eye caps and it works in a week or two!! It’s super safe for the snake , you should definitely check with your vet. Anyway I love how healthy she is now! Best of luck for you guys 💕💕

Another thing people use to get the eye caps off is using those rubber fingers (only like a dollar to buy a small box). Most use the rubber fingers for flipping through paperwork but it has helped me with shed issues. Always rub from the front of the face backward. There's also a spray thats for helping snakes shed more easily. It's more preemptive, before they shed, but you could use that before her next shed.

Snakes really aren’t something to be feared. They will never bother you unless you act threatening towards them (so like don’t approach wild snakes). And they will likely try to flee first anyways. They see you as a potential predator so they are just scared for their life and trying to defend themselves. They aren’t going to go out of their way to attack you like a wasp

Try putting her in a soak tub for a day or two. Like a good sized plastic storage container with a locking lid and shallow rock for her to rest on. Also use a small portion of her heat mat to keep the water warm. If you do this PLEASE leave a thermometer to keep track of the water temp.
I used this method to take off some bad stuck shed on my ball python. My snakes shed wasn’t as bad as hers but this might help with humanity and hydration. Eye caps should slide off easily and not be peeled!!!

I don't know if you have gotten the eye caps off yet but like others have said, soaking helps soften them up and some sort of sticky glove helps a lot. Rubber gloves, nitrile gloves, etc. Not putting it on, just holding a finger flat between your fingers usually gives just enough grip to pull it from the sides to come off. You really want to be pretty gentle as possible. Snakes can often have 5 layers of stuck eye caps before taking damage to their eyes. It isn't a rush. :)
Not sure if you’ll even see this, but I work in a student research lab and we focus primarily on various species of snakes!
Stuck eye caps can be really difficult. My professor usually tries to use tweezers to get slightly under the stuck eye cap and lift it gently off the eye. Definitely try soaking before doing this to make sure it is not dried completely on there! You could also wait until the next shed. The risk of getting infected is there, but if you can’t safely remove it, you might hurt the snake’s eye worse. I hope this helps!
Also, I own two ball pythons, and we had one with both eye caps stuck and they came off during the next shed with no problem. Of course, this isn’t the case every time so do try to get them off by hand. If nothing works, I’d wait until she sheds. (You might also see if that vet you went to can help!)
Dealing with eyes...even gentle rubbing is not pleasant I would have the vet do that part n Def keep the tank treated for the mites bc they multiply rapidly regardless of the abx and creams I'd Def use the tick treatment and your doing so amazing she looks wonderful!!! I think she is your baby girl now 🤗
I’m very grateful for people like you! It sucks how many people dump snakes in Florida, ball pythons they’re literally the easiest pets. Essentially pet rocks!!! I think it’s funny that everyone keeps commenting on her personality though being so chill because most balls I’ve met have been exactly like this 😅 anyways, my ball python had stuck eye caps a few months back and I know it sounds risky but I used a warm wet rag and some tweezers to remove the eye caps. I just pulled the eye caps in a slow direction and it went well.
My oldest boy, was once attacked by a rat, and it completely blinded him; his eye scale gets stuck all the time. I always use my finger, it’s ever so slightly moist. You definitely need to keep her temp high, the least she needs to be in is 75 degrees. Before jumping straight to rats also, feed her baby mice, not necessarily pinky mice but definitely something small and (alive) so she can start building her momentum and confidence to actually catch prey. Another great thing, is I know you don’t want the water dish with her, but since she’s a tropical snake, it wouldn’t hurt to start keeping her den(cage) damp. Just light misting from a spray bottle once a day would help immensely with that eye. And as I said, combined with a high temp natural to a rainforest, would definitely help. Without a water source inside the tank, it makes the enclosure very dry, even though it might not seem that way to us

One of my ball python’s had one eye cap stuck after her first shed this winter. She usually has two sheds over the winter so I knew there was another one coming and I was really adamant the second one would be perfect. I’m proud to say it was! 😆 She just shed like an hour ago and I can see her beautiful eyeball again 💛💛💛
