Ringnecks are a very calm and have little fear of humans.Super easy to tame. I highly recommend them as pets.

+Cat's Cradle Studio My female white ring neck dove coos. She sings (coos) with me when I sing. And coos when hearing music and when I talk to her. She lays eggs so no way she is male.

That's awesome! We have one here.. but He is wild if you can believe that! but he LOVES people its so strange! There are other doves here but they don't like being around people, except for this one.. So we've been feeding him and he stays in our garage to sleep, eat and drink water :) :) I've never owned a bird before, but he's definitely teaching me some things this little dove haha :) He is a ring neck dove as well. Greyish color :)

If you live in the U.S check Craigslist in the pets section.
Or check your state pigeon forum. If you live in Minnesota
    I will have two,

Do they need flockmates like other birds? Or are they okay being kept as singles?

Do you need a pair, we have one that cannot fly and since it is still so cold brought him in and he is in our greenhouse in the garage which is heated as have pair of while doves for 12 years. Have not and probably won't ever have even next to each other. Three was a large die off of them this winter, one of the worse in years very, very cold and lots of snow for over 6 months, very rare. Was told it was a virus so did a bleach clean for several months. Seemed to help, no more dead doves, probanly lost an entire flock of regulars. I amgoing to try what you have done, basically feed what you do. Can we leave him in the greenhouse until it gets warmer. You gave me good ideas.

I feed my little parakeets/budgies "Kaytee Forti-Diet Pro Health Parakeet Food". So doves can live off parakeet food fine? Because I'm thinking of buying a dove.

    Hi Dave,
I had a dove but she died two years ago after a long life of 21 years. At the time I didn't think I'd be getting another one so I gave the cage away. I can't remember how big it was and I am thinking about getting another. How big of a cage do you recommend for one dove that will be inside but with plenty of time out of the cage? Also I fed my girl a pelleted diet called Roudybush. Do you recommend that? I thought an all seed diet wasn't good for doves.... Especially hens that lay eggs which she did a lot.
I would like to get a male this time if possible so I don't have to deal with all the egg laying.
My Crissy cooed, laughed, loved being petted and held. She would twitch her wings and nuzzle her beak between my fingers while I was petting her.
    Thank you for your advice.

I'm interested in adopting a male ringneck. I have a quaker parrot and I'm curious to know if you think that I could keep them (inside) in the same house. Different cages, obviously...and lots of love. :) Do you think that would work out okay?

You would have no problems from the dove as they are so calm and gentle. You would really have to monitor the quaker's reaction. Parrots can get jealous and even aggressive. Some parrots hate men or kids from a bad past experience. They are smart. I do know people who keep doves with pigeons and others who keep them in a avairy with finches. I say go for it and them that Love. Thanks for the comment.Have a fantastic day.

I have aboth a Quaker and a Dove. Make sure to place a blanket or a Sheet on the Quakers cage because the dove will land on top and the territorial Quaker easily Bites off the Doves toes. My dove always tries to pick fights with all the other birds.

The males can get noisy. They coo and laugh. Mainly in the morning and evening.

I don't have the doves anymore. I had them for years but bring them in during the winter became a real pain. Doves are extremely dusty due to their dander so I sold them to a magician.

"laughing doves" are "senegal doves" aka "palm doves", whoever calls a barbary/ringneck a laughing dove is dumb..
as to a better first timer bird: definitely blue ground doves. they are much quieter unless you have a flock although they are very wild and take longer to tame than larger/native/domestics. but sadly they are expensive as very few people breed them.
