I am only 20 years old and I absolutely LOVE Abba! My friends make fun of me because I get all excited when one of their songs comes on the radio! But, I mean, how can you not love their music, right? Their melodies are gorgeous and at most whimsical (i.e. Thank you for the music and I have a Dream) and their vocals are just indescribably beautiful. On top of all of their talent, there isn't a single song of theirs that isn't relatable on some level.
I'm from the States, and I could never understand how anyone could hate ABBA. Then, again, I was the guy knocked down on the playground when I brought my ABBA records to school in the late 70s. ABBA: original, infection, masterful, 5 stars hands down!
i was fifteen in 1976. i went to see abba in sydney in march 1977 at the sydney showgrounds. the first two concerts of their one and only world tour. i was one of the very entertained crowd in the videos. i knew way back then that i was at two amazing and never to be repeated concerts. it rained the first night. no one cared. still the best shows i have ever been to and proud to have been a part of it.
im only 15 and i love ABBA. i love my parents for introducing me to all the older groups like the beatles, beach boys, elvis, etc. even though i love newer people too such as lady gaga, she will never beat the epicness of ABBA. :)
This is the first ABBA song I heard when I was about 8 yrs old listening with my grandma. I loved it, and she loved it-bought the single, and was hooked on ABBA ever since.
You look around today, and NOTHING comes close to the class and talent of ABBA =) Sooo glad I was old enough to enjoy them as a fan when they on the scene.
I am 65 now, and when our kids were growing up, we would make the effort on Friday nights to play music all the family could relate to. Besides the Smurfs, ABBA was next on the list of music to play. Of course, when the kids were in bed, it was time for Billy Joel and Melissa Manchester, etc!
The band will not be repeated by beautiful full band performance and beauty of the tunes and words sound and the picture love Abba Thank you for you who raised section
I am 16 and abba is way better then some music you can get now they adleast had amazing voices and brillient songs :) I wish I could have seen them live :)
For whatever people say about them, they were excellent musicians (actual musicians!) and could harmonize beautifully! And when I'm feeling low, it's really hard not to start smiling & dancing or singing along when ABBA is playing.
I remember my feelings the night this show was aired in UK I was just 14 and very naive ...It is wonderful thank you so much the sound is exactly as it should be I'm very moved x
XYtruck25 you obviously haven't made a serious effort then...I'm not an ABBA fan and I've spent the last half an hour watching nothing but live renditions without any trouble ( and I might add been extremely impressed ).
OP, I think I can answer your question. Take a look at the backround of this video. Notice there's a 12 piece band playing back there. Then go and look at every other live video, as almost all of them have a big band playing behind them. ABBA needed that to create their "wall of sound" music style. Also technology back then simply couldn't assure Abba of quality of equipment that would make their music sound decent . It certainly was never a problem with the women's vocals, which would be the reasons for most bands. When they were first starting out, they were touring just the four of them, which so many groups were doing. It was just the normal thing to go playback, and saved them hours of sound time, so they could hop venue to venue. And remember Agnetha's time problem being away from her children. And, in the end, playback was just the normal thing to do back in the 1970' as almost everything on TV was playback then. By the time they became rich enough to always have a proper band with them, the stress of touring had hit the band, and Agnetha just didn't want to leave Sweden much anymore.
iam a 45 year old mother of two i perform ABBA and many other cover songs raising funds in aid of Cancer Research UK in my home town and surrounding areas, i love them too......
How anyone could not like this is beyond me. Perhaps metal has ruined their heads. Anyway, I do believe, with all my heart, that the reason ABBA was cosmically influenced, is the reason music is now what it should be. All other groups have followed, not led. ABBA were the true pioneers of a completely new sound of music, and for that, I remain one of the biggest ABBA fans in the world. Just no comparison with ANY other music. They are so far beyond legendary it is ridiculous. Joseph F
It is very rare that a song on a tv show from this era is not lip synced, usually due to technical challenges. So this is exceptionally good considering it was from 1978!
WOW!!!! Frida and Agnetha have such TOTALLY different voices. Equally beautiful but just so different. But they blend with a perfection which is unbelievable
I always thought that this was 'live' myself but if you've seen the Ultra-Rare video of this TV show that's on UA-cam, then you'll see that the vocals on this version have all been duplicated and they (the director of the show) also added the lead synthesizer. So you might say that this is an 'enhanced' live performance. Pretty amazing that they were able to do things like that back in the late 70's!!
I am 45 years old, would still describe myself as a Mod,played in some semi high profile Punk bands in England, and guess what? I have always been a massive ABBA fan,and have never denied the fact..Oh,,and I am straight if that has anything to do with shit!
This is really ABBA singing LIVE!!!!! Much different from the Star Parade performance. I have several devices hooked up to my computer, and the difference is amazing! What a great song, and ABBA HAS to be The best group ever assembled. No one, just no one can ever match them. JF
Oh you, too! Glad I finally found someone likeminded. Lypsynching is so criminally fake. That was one of the rare times when ABBA actually went truly live. Loved it.
To grow up in south india ,with classical indian musical leaning,& to love ABBA !There must be something magical about the synchronous melody of ABBA,that inspite of not understanding the lyrics,I just immerse in the divinity.I dont listen to any other English songs with as much intensity ,sorry its like noise for my indian ears.

Great Group -- Great Song! Brings back a great deal of positive memories! Thanks,
I grew up in the 90s, but my parents always made sure ABBA or the Beatles and such classic music going in the house, and I love them to this day!

Sometimes it is not the song we remember with love, but the loving memories it created when we first listened to it! And you can quote me on that!
I am 16 and abba is way better then some music you can get now

I finally found a video where they sing live, not lip sync. They sound awesome playing live, why all the other videos play back. Great video. Thanks

Musical music. We are so fortunate to be with them.
Absolutely the best. What else?
probably one of the best female harmonies to ever sing together.
Genius music, genius lyric, genius performers, genius chemistry.
The best selling band of all time. And one of the greatest, too. Too bad they all divorced and won't ever play with each other again.
