    I’m a very envious of the MDF that you can get in the UK. In a heavy fog, Canadian MDF turns into Weetabix.

    I’m in the process of building a high sleeper bed for my daughter, will try this combination of primer and paint! Normally when I see videos about painting MDF the products are mentioned briefly by type (not specific brand) or they are from USA and not available in UK, so nice to see something more local and easily available from local shops! Greetings from Suffolk 🤗

    Tikkurila Helmi is without a shadow of doubt the best low VOC paint for furniture or woodwork I’ve ever used. If it’s good enough for professional hand painted kitchen painters it’s good enough for anyone. Knocks the socks off every other brand I’ve ever encountered.

    • @matts5356
      @matts5356 2 роки тому

      It is a great paint. The only down side is the recoat time of 16 hours as there are faster drying paints. If you combine with two fussy bloke smooth rollers you do get a great finish though.

    • @tonyalways7174
      @tonyalways7174 2 роки тому

      @@matts5356 I think you’re confusing it with one of the alkyd paints. Helmi acrylic is a re coat time of 2-4 hrs the same as other acrylic water based paints 👍🏻

    • @matts5356
      @matts5356 2 роки тому

      @tonyalways7174 That’s weird. I have a can of Helmi 30 (in the uk) on my shelf that says recoat time of 16 hours. On their website they have 2-4 hours listed on the product page but 16 hours on their technical data sheet from the same page. I wonder why that is unless that’s not the Helmi you’re referencing?

    • @tonyalways7174
      @tonyalways7174 2 роки тому

      @@matts5356 Blow me you’re absolutely right. I just checked a tin too and it says “16 hours between layers” (whatever the hell a layer is in paint 😀). All I can say is that I use it all the time on my little furniture renovation business and I’ve never ever consciously given it more than 2-3 hours between coats - typical bloke I’ve clearly never read the label 😀. I’ve tried their alkyd and waterborne paints and they can be a bit tricky but I’ve never had a problem with Helmi although I will watch out for grief in the future. 👍🏻

    • @matts5356
      @matts5356 2 роки тому

      @@tonyalways7174 lol. That’s really funny! Clearly they’ve built in lots of ‘just to be safe’ drying time if you’ve never had an issue! Hopefully this newfound knowledge won’t mess up your timescales moving forwards :-)

    Fantastic job Keith, I'm sure I haven't made anything without a single problem along the way.
    I have a little tip for the Domino joining. At 4:45 in the video you said that you have to center them in the hole. For that use the tightest setting on the Domino, and for the other part drill with middle setting for side to side movement (you'll know what I'm talking about 🙂).

    Great book for a beginner . ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ this book really starts from the beginning, as in it explains what basic tools are and how to use them. @@RagnBoneBrown I actually have exactly the same spray set up as you, the abac hp2 compressor and the midi gun. Top tip for anyone trying to spray this paint, if you aren't getting enough paint out of your gun, even when the gun is step to max flow, thin the paint down more. I found that counter intuitive and it took me a while to figure it out, my compressor was working overtime. I thought there was something wrong with my gun. Water it down more and you’ll get a strong flow and it comes up lovely when de nibbed. I guess its because with a gravity feed gun it needs to be arriving in the venturi with enough flow to be blown out. Its not “sucked” out of the cup it, rather has to flow out under gravity first. I don't really know, but if you want more paint being laid down, the answer is add more water and thin it. Anyway. I’ll never roller finish any of my furniture again, the spay finish with this Leyland acrylic paint is just so good. Genuinely looks like its been done in a German factory. Being water based is the icing on the cake when it comes to clean up.
