    Must say, I’m really enjoying the new direction where you’re giving yourself the time and space to think about the design and build, rather than worrying about a schedule of uploads. Hopefully you’re back enjoying it, certainly looks like you are.
    These nightstands and the bed are proper quality!

    May your symptoms stay minor and be done with quickly! I have wondered if isolating for Covid is less of a change/shock for many woodworkers. WRT to the useful pallet salvage, we used to get Marblehead cabin cruiser hulls shipped from the Far East. Paid US customs on the value of the hull. Then someone realized that the teak crates the hulls came in were worth more than the hulls.

    One of the best from scratch construction videos I have seen for bedside cabinets. The finish and overall look is excellent a bit pricey for material but definitely worth it for the end result.

    Regarding the issue of safety glasses fogging: I started wearing a 3M 6900 full-face respirator a few months ago and have never looked back. It completely eliminates the problem of interference between safety glasses and a respirator and doesn’t fog at all. The face shield has the same impact protection as safety glasses, plus it prevents getting dust in your eyes. Sadly, it does make me look like a dork.

    • @robertbamford8266
      @robertbamford8266 2 роки тому

      I do too. Especially good for preventing dust in the eyes.

    • @jpkalishek4586
      @jpkalishek4586 2 роки тому

      Yeah, a full face is great to have.
      I've a 3M and a North(MSA) full face from work replacing them (I work with chemicals). I stick with the 3M as filters are easier to get and cheaper, but I could make dust filters for the North. The 3M does have better view out. I'd prefer the 3M to my current Scotty, but work provides the mask and filters and they only want to stock the one brand. Sadly, now, I need reading glasses so I need to get "Diopters" for inside the mask.

    I started using the Axminster APF 10 evolution powered respirator after I got a scratch on my eye from a rogue speck of wood (made it under the full face visor and my glasses). It's a rebranded JSP powercap I think, they certainly look very similar! It's not cheap but it is great, no fogging, great visibility, comfortable, I can wear ear defenders at the same time, battery and filters last for ages and most importantly there's no chance of anything ending up in my eyes. It's obviously entirely your choice what PPE to use but I'm happy to pay for a APF 10 to avoid the hours and hours sitting around in hospital let alone the pain and worry.

    Looking great! Cutting the drawer fronts after they're attached was brilliant, it was a big "why haven't I thought of that" moment.
    I'm curious why you didn't cut the chamfers on the table saw. That maybe sounds like a critique but I don't mean it that way; I'm sure you have a good reason that I'm not thinking of.

      I've thought about that method of cutting the drawer fronts. Not seen it done before and only assumed it was down to material usage. I.e. not being able to fit the panels into the exact position on the sheet. I think I'll stick to the idea now I've seen it in action.

      Just done a comparison, ST was slightly cheaper but they don't mill to customer specs, they only stock specific thicknesses and also they don't seem to sell sheet materials? So not really a like for like comparison. But yeah if you only need solid timber in stock thicknesses then ST is probably slightly cheaper but I think it is pretty fair that you're paying for someones' time each time it goes through a machine...
