A discussion about watches focusing primarily on quality and style, rather than collectability and complication is very refreshing.
As always, bravo and thank you!
Many thanks Brian for your message. We didn't feel very comfortable to speak about time pieces in the first place (as we are not experts at all), but we decided that discussing watches from a stylistic perspective was a good angle for us. All my best ! Hugo
@@wordwarrior2350 Not sure why you are here. If you don't understand what makes a quality watch, you won't understand what goes into a good suit, shirt shoes. It's not about keeping accurate time. You can get that with a quarts watch. To do that in a mechanical watch with nothing but gears and springs is an art. You can buy a suit at Men's Wearhouse or you can get a bespoke Huntsman. Both will cover your body more or less the same. The difference is your appreciation of the quality of how it was made. Same with a watch.
@Brian G I was going to say the exact same thing
@@wordwarrior2350 it's a shame that your attitude isn't more elegant.
@@wordwarrior2350 had you offered anything interesting I may have felt more inclined to be engaged. At any rate this conversation is not going to lead anywhere positive, so we may agree to disagree, or not. Either way, all the best and be well.
"It's a co-axial watch, I don't know what it means but it is beautifull" the way you said it really made me laugh but I appreciate the honesty and not trying to act like you know what that is. Great content but I always come back for your personality and honesty. Keep up the great work!
You are very kind and supportive Nick! And honestly, I really don't know what a co-axial watch is... Yours, Hugo
SARTORIAL TALKS The co-axial device incorporated into a watch movement counteracts the affects of gravity on the watch. Some watches (rarely) have two co-axial devices in them.
@@rogerdsmith no, it's not. You confound co-axial escapement with tourbillon.
The tourbillon, created by Abraham-Louis Breguet, is a cage around the escapement which spins in order to, as you say, counteract the perturbations caused by gravity. And it's very rare and expensive.
The co-axial escapement, created by George Daniels in 1999, is a specific escapement (inspired by the Robin escapement) which aims at preventing the escapement from disturbing the balance wheel, to keep an accurate time

Not a single Rolex...
@@mfmf100 Rolex is great but overrated.
"on my Macintosh" that's how I'm going to refer to my computer from now on.
I am not interested in watches at all but if Hugo is presenting - getting my popcorn ready. Great job !
Haha, you're very kind Krunoslav as usual. But don't exaggerate with the popcorn ok ? Cheers, Hugo
@@SARTORIALTALKS Don't worry haha.
Same here! but I could listen to Hugo and Sonya reading the phone book, and I would find it entertaining!
@@daro8921 Oh yes. They are very cool.
You have successfully avoided an expensive habit!
There are so many channels on UA-cam talking about watches so you thought it was not your time and place to talk about them? I so strongly disagree: there are many channels on UA-cam, many interchangeable, but there is nothing like Sartorial Talks. Even the musical intro gives me goose bumps. Il n'y a qu'un Hugo Jacomet.
Oh thank you Marc for your kind words! Actually we did not feel legit to speak about timepieces from a technical perspective (as it is a subject for true connoisseurs). But from a style perspective we felt legit. So here we are ! Cheers my friend and please stay safe. Hugo & Sonya
I'm so much agree with you! Every time a video starts and the intro music plays, I know that I'm gonna watch a veeeery good quality content.
@@OnStyleChannel You are so kind my friend. Thank you, Hugo
Well I have been using your intro as an example of what I like for mine and to give my video guy some ideas. So I have to agree with the comments here.
Marc M So many menstyle channels on youtube are charlatans with bad editing and rushed production, marred even further by dispassionate ungenuine praises of sponsored items. Sartorial Talks it seems are one of few that are truly passionate where Hugo and Sonya commands a natural elegance and charisma that doesn't feel faked for the camera and sponsors.
Spot on. Extraordinary list of fifteen “simple,” elegant dress watches. Thank you, Hugo.
You’ve hit it on the nail Hugo. Class and style is never loud. Understated elegance is the way!!!
Well said👏
Great presentation Hugo, I love these kinds of dresswatches!
‘According to our approach of elegance, and even of life, is that a watch should not become the center of your picture. The center of your picture should always remain yourself’
Thank you very much for that
I so agree. The fashion for men wearing a wristwatch like a bracelet, is not elegant.
In addition, the cult of James Bond wearing dive watches with black tie, has indoctrinated a generation of men to think this is the height of sophistication. As we know, it looks ridiculous.
I note that wristwatch scale is becoming smaller again, which is good to see.
If we can reach a level of understanding, where sports watches are for sport and dress watches are for elegant dress, the world will be so much easier on the eye!
Thank you Hugo, The sartorial angle to watch collecting is much needed as it is too often missed in watch forums and blogs. Your list lives up to your refined taste, and your closing remarks, as usual, take this video to the next level.
Thank you so much Fadi for your kind words. Please stay safe my friend. Hugo
Thanks to Hugo and the entire sartorial talks team I've gained a better understanding of men's style and I just bought my first suit from suit supply(it's a bit of a cliché by now but still ) in a beautiful navy blue colour . Big thanks for the education and entertainment.
It's our absolute pleasure Ivan. Congratulations ! Hugo & team
25:11 "This watch is very close to my heart and has been very close to my wrist" :D
Haha that's true! I wore this Laurent Ferrier Tourbillon for almost two years... Cheers, Hugo
Your watch is STUNNING. Pure class.
Excellent selection. Pure elegance!
I watched this as someone who has little interest in dress watches and as it went on I realised how wonderful some of these pieces are. A growing appreciation for such beautifully elegant watches and passionate creators. Many thanks Hugo I’m going to step back and look at this genre again hard.
Many thanks for sharing your thoughts my friend. And please save some money for suiting!! Cheers, Hugo
Excellent selection Hugo.
I can't compliment you enough on the effort you put into this little quarantine video! As much a pleasure to watch as your regular, refined offerings. Beyond that I would also like to compliment you on your pronunciation of the german brands, especially A. Lange & Söhne, which is not easy at all, but you mastered the Umlaut gracefully.
Cheers my friend and greetings to Sonya!
Thank you dear friend, and this is the first time in my life I receive credit for my German accent. My German teacher, 40 years ago was not so nice with me!! Cheers, Hugo
Endlich jemand der es richtig macht 👍
I loved it, Hugo. Nothing left to be added. Excellent.
I was curious about your take on wristwatches after binge watching your previous videos. Imagine my joy when I've noticed this video come up!
Thank you Hugo! Take care!
Thank you my friend, I hope you will find some inspiration in this Quarantine video. Stay safe my friend! Hugo
Hugo, I appreciate your effort to continue producing your videos, as always, with very interesting and quality content. My best regards to you and Sonya, stay safe.
Many thanks Diego. Please stay safe as well! Hugo
Love that you have a home in Georgia. I was born, raised and still live in Tennessee. Hope you enjoy the Southern hospitality here. God bless!
Always enjoy going back to the Southern USA ! Cheers ! Hugo
Awesome Selections!
That Laurent Ferrier Galet Classic Tourbillon Double Spiral is so indeed SPECIAL.
You ooze class and elegance Mr. Jacomet! I love your style of presentation and articulation. There is something very soothing about your videos. Thanks for the great contents!
One of the best buy for simple watch is the JLC Master Ultra Thin 34,
What you get :
- classical men's size / vintage size of 34mm diameter with 40mm lug to lug
- 849 caliber(in some variation) is used by holy trinity(ap,vc and patek)
-a display caseback to loupe around the finish of the movement which display the classical swiss finish(anglage, black polish , blued screws)
Hugo, I love the designs of the Nomos Glashütte watches! If you like this kind of aesthetic, you should really check out the German brand "Junghans", especially their "Max Bill" line named after the famous Bauhaus artist. And they are actually even more affordable! :-)
Stay safe in quarantine with Sonya and have a great time. Greetings from Germany!
Thank you Benjamin, I will certainly take a look at this German brand. Tschuss ! Hugo
Big thanks Hugo to you and your team. Your knowledge is priceless 🥂
Thanks you so much and Cheers ! Hugo
The Lange & Sohne Saxonia in person is absolutely stunning. The dial shimmers, the weight of solid precious metal, the proportions and size. Then when you flip it over you get the best looking 3 hand movement your eyes will ever see. I'd wear it upside down on my wrist.
Exquisite selection.Thank you
Fascinating to see all the engineering that has gone into creating these beauties. They are for the exclusive clientele - the lucky 1%.
Wow!! Great video, I totally agree with the Simplicity.
Great to read, thanks a lot. Hugo
Excellent as always! Love your channel Hugo, thank you.
Great video. Thank you!
Thank you for a great video and a great selection of timepieces.
My choice is A. Lang & Sohne.
As always y an excellent video..Hugo keep up the great work.....
Thank you so much for the wonderful video !
All the pleasure is ours! Hugo
Pure class. Thank You
It is so nice to dive into new chapters with you. In a world where many pretend to be expert and own the truth (UA-cam particularly) it is so refreshing to hear you speak. Ioved this video, the setup, the content, flipping the photos with you, loved it. All the best. I can't choose a favourite one, most were absolutely beautiful
Many thanks TM for your support and encouragements. Cheers, Hugo
Mr Jacomet, I watched this video with great interest, having an amateur interest in horology and with a small collection of watches. With so many channels talking watches from a collectors point of view, or from an investors perspective, it was wonderful to see someone speaking from a passionate point of view about watches that had been selected for stylistic and aesthetic qualities. The watches I’ve collected have been purely for their wearability because I like them. Thank you so much for your insights and information.
p.s. that suit looks exquisite, a beautiful colour on you...!! Praying for you and Ms Sonya, and your families. Stay safe! Every blessing from Wales!
Thank you, Hugo. Great job as always and very informative
With pleasure Nicholas! Hugo
Love it. Was into your channel before my love for watches and it's great hearing you talk about them. It's great to have a fresh opinion. Thank you.
Great video. Thank you Hugo, from Brisbane Australia
You are very welcome Aaron! Hugo
Very impressive presentation. Thank you very very much.
Thank you guys, stay safe and well.
I am a watch guy and you have some pretty good choices Hugo. The escapement is the gear device that sends impulses to actually move the watch hands. The coaxial escapement is a modern version used in Omega watches and is extremely accurate
Many many thanks Devon. We are not watch specialists, but we've been working hard on this selection (from a style perspective of course). Please stay safe my friend ! Hugo
SARTORIAL TALKS yes sir
I don't think the coaxial escapement necessarily affects the accuracy of a watch, it's goal is to reduce friction and thus the need for lubrication.
Your perspective is authentically stylish and truly class. Refreshing. Thank you. Best regards, Soren 🌸
Excellent list Hugo! Cheers--
Thank you Koji! All my best, Hugo
Hugo, you are a true classical masterpiece yourself. Your style of presentation is truly beautiful. Thank you for being You!🙏
The astoundingly beautiful Laurent Ferrier Galet Classic Tourbillon Double Spiral! Magnificent. Another wonderful video by an intelligent and knowledgeable man of style.
My grandmother gave me her watch for my 20th birthday, shortly after that she died. It is a "Tissot Navigator" given to her by one of the watches' designers back in the 50ies us being Swiss. He told her, that this watch is unique, but so far, I didn't go to Tissot Headquarters to get it researched, even if a friend of mine works at SWATCH group. For everyday life this friend got me a watch which can take some damage.
Thanks for providing your take on watches. It's always interesting to hear it from a different perspective rather than the usual review and analytical comparisons 😊
Hope there may be a few more watch talks on this channel in the near future 😁
Great thank you , mr jacomet for this watchs description !!!
Beautiful beautiful suit and tie pairing Hugo. Cheers!
Your apparel... the tie color compliments your hair color and the suit color compliments your skin tone...very simple and yet shouts depth of pairings! So well done!
As a watch guy I just want to congratulate you on pronouncing the names correctly :)
Haha thank you my friend! Hugo
I mean, He's French.
Excellent video.
Lovely clear video. Great watch choices and I have to say that I love your suit. Fantastic colour. Keep safe
Thank you for continuing your excellent work and fascinating insights, Hugo. Look after yourself sir.
That Simplicity blew me away! I have wanted an F.P. Journe Chrono Blue for about 2 years, the one you posted is really nice. It is just the cream colored hands on the dark blue background is striking! The Blue face does call attention to the watch, the version you posted was very elegant.
Well I agree with you my friend, the Simplicity and the FP Journey are tremendously elegant timepieces... Best! Hugo
The JLC reverso duo in blue is my holy grail watch.
Koji Attwood ooooo yeah that’s on my list as well. Their movement making wins over Cartier for sure - but I can’t get past how I’d have to keep explaining to people about polo. The Burgundy tribute small seconds though.... it’s a tough choice.
Dear Koji, I have to take a look at this one in blue for sure. Cheers, Hugo
Dear Andrew, you are absolutely right, the JL Burgundy tribute watch is breathtaking... Hugo
Definitely
My favourite fine time-piece in my modest collection is the ones I made-to-measure by my own hand. There's a bit of love in succeeding to accomplish a task you, at first glance, thought impossible.
I'm often amazed by the nuance of your videos. I have learned so much watching you Hugo. Thanks a lot.
Welcome to Georgia. I'm from North Georgia too lol. Happy to have some style to these hills haha.
Hahaha yes! All the best, Hugo
Wonderful to know that you and Sonya are well. Stay strong and stay safe.
the one and only - Grand Seiko Snowflake (SBGA211)
If you say so my friend! Cheers, Hugo
Magnifique présentation, un régal. A breath of fresh air.
Merci cher ami, Hugo
I love your suit, Hugo. That color is beautiful! Great video as always, hope you're staying inside and staying safe
I really enjoyed this video. Great insights and refreshing to see classic elegance emerge from the rubble of gaudy watches.
Fantastic selection Hugo, as one of those people with a channel dedicated to watches I can really appreciate your perspective in focusing on the elegance and style of the watches without at any point conceding on quality either - and I can really appreciate you shedding light on the independents as well as big brands. I'm looking to add a dedicated dress watch to my collection and have been eying a Reverso so it's always good to know the reverse has your seal of approval too! Stay safe & looking forward to seeing more videos!
Thank you Shah for your comment, very much appreciated (especially coming from a real watch connoisseur). Stay well! Hugo
I must say. That jacket is stunning. I couldn't pull it off myself, but I can appreciate it.
thank you for this quality video again. Actually you guys are making the title of sartorial talks to be equal with quality each and every single time great work Mr Hugo as always.
Thank you Afsana, even if this episode is not, in terms of production quality, as sophisticated as our "regular" ones. But we are doing our best during this confinement period! Cheers my friend, Hugo
Thank you Mr.Jacomet for this wonderful and elegant selection. It's amazing what those craftmakers contributed to our world.
Very enjoyable video. Thanks
Best watch video this year, cheers
Excellent episode. I absolutely love the style and elegance of your channel. My best to you.
So pleasant to listen to you, guys and to always learn:)
Thank you for this episode,
I learned a lot, again.
I’m a watch lover, ( proud owner of a watch in your list) and I was very happy to see that you included a lot of independent watchmakers.
Greetings from Amsterdam
Take care
Love this! Thank you
Thank you Jack! Yours, Hugo
With Hugo’s videos I enter in default mode... I like the video by default and then watch it, always with a cup of coffee. I loved ALL watches. No favorites, all were beautiful and enjoyable.
Well said sir and yes all are beautiful and understated I to like the tank solo my wife got me one as a wedding gift thanks for the video 👍 Joseph R.
That Cartier watch was a thing of beauty. Plus, I like that it isn't round.
I love all your choices regardless of price. All following the principles of classical art. Restraint, balance, harmony.
Love you videos, Sir!
I own a 1962 Rolex serviced by Amsterdam Watch Company. It is stainless steel and paired with a brown leather band that has aged beautifully. Many are smaller than 35mm and are very subtle. The vintage Rolex can be purchased in the $1000- $3500 range. It is the most overlooked watch and certainly attainable for someone who is beginning their foray into the world of horology.
Thank you very much for this great subject
Our pleasure. We are not specialists in terms of technical features but we speak from a style perspective only. Cheers, Hugo
Absolutely agree, great choices!
Many thanks Max !! Hugo
As a watch enthusiast i rarely see a video based on quality and optics and just a hint of brand. Its pretty fresh to see not only rolex rolex rolex, AP, patek philippe..... etc. I am more the sport watch than classical but i really love the video
I love this topic and u gave it out the best way, watches is about elegant not show off. Love ur presentation
Another first class video, bravo Hugo! 🙏🏼
Even watch channels could learn from this video 😊
Not sure I deserve those words, but thank you ! Hugo
Thank you for this lovely video. I would add that my favorite dress watch is the Omega Constellation “pie pan” from the mid ‘60s. Very simple and elegant.
Mon tres cher Hugo, tu as un gout magnifiquement raffine!
I am so pleased that you have chosen those particular Omega, Grand Seiko, and JLC models - I share your taste exactly . Such under looked timepieces. My father has worn a beautiful De Ville for 30 years and I covet it - I truly hope he was pass it on to me one day.
In my personal view the 3 you selected above would be in my dream collection.
I also particularly like you choice of A Lange & Sohne, Breguet, Gerard Pirregeaux, and of course the legendary Philippe Dufour!
Kind regards from your friend in South Africa.
What a beautiful and very fine selection of watches. I am so happy that I have seen there my grail, Nb. 12 F.P.Journe. What a watch! I agree with you, the style, the elegance of the last watch is incontestable. Bravo!
Yes, FP Journe's Chronomètre Souverain and Dufour's Simplicity are for sure two masterpieces... Cheers! Hugo
Wonderful videos Hugo. Would be fantastic meeting eventually meeting you. All best from Mexico City.
Thank you Hugo, this was another fantastic, informative and very enjoyable video. Best wishes to Sonya and yourself at this worrying time.
Many thanks Adrian! Best wishes to you and your family. Stay safe! Hugo & Sonya
I love that the DuFour watch uses hands designed and named after the only French watch: Breguet, also one of the oldest makers in the world, from when the Swiss were simply making happy cows!
Aah! It was much awaited video , love your talk and enjoyed the livestream with Kirby Allison thoroughly.
Your videos are a class of elegance which we enjoy. Love the community ❤️👍🏻
Many thanks Kaustav for your encouragements!! Cheers my friend, Hugo
I remember commenting recently and asking about whether you'd consider covering watches. This made me very happy! I appreciate your erudite perspective, and I'm still hoping that you'll tackle some fragrances next!
Dear Mattias, we did shoot an episode on fragrances. It will go live probably after the Covid crisis. Cheers, Hugo
Greetings from Greece .As soon as I get into educating myshelf and getting even more obsessed with time pieces, there's a video from one of my favourites channels that will not talk about fanction and characteristics, but from pure stylistic view. Thank you for everything you thought me!!!
The pleasure is all ours John! Stay safe. Hugo
That suit is absolutely stunning Hugo! Fantastic colour and I love the cut on it.
As someone very into watches I must say, bravo on this list. You highlighted several beautiful 'under-the-radar' pieces. Well done sir!
Glad you startet with the Nomos Ludwig. Great watch.
Elegance and style without which life becomes bland. Excellent show and thank you for making life interesting.
