    Not making money is stressful. People shit on 9-5s but the stability of a paycheck removes a lot of stress that allows you to be creative. Most creators or just faking it with no insurance and stress income.

    Influencers are not necessarily living their best lives, they're working. Some just create alter egoes to make it work.

    Oof, girl you're brave brave brave, I could never. There are so many weirdos in these virtual streets! And you're constantly battling with algorithms and other influencers for views from people whose attention spans are getting shorter and shorter. Not to mention the out of pocket comments. At least celebrities have an entire team behind them to coach them through dealing with haters, scandals, lies, etc. Some even have people who read messages and filter out the really toxic ones. Most content creators don't have that and they don't have the years of training to prepare them for the sudden target on their backs. It's like throwing two people into shark infested waters, one of them has a cage around them, a harpoon gun, and a life vest and the other is cageless, vestless with a rubber ducky just out floating like fresh meat. Sharks eat influencers alive.
    I see a lot of similarities between content creators who have no idea what they're doing and high school and college students who want to own a business. Students have no idea what it's like and when I tell them things like, "you may not even see profit until 2 or 3 years into running your business STABLY", they go all and I go all ...like here's another one.

      @JennJackson  Рік тому +6

      Yes yes and yes! It’s such a difficult field to navigate and we are doing it on our own, with no training! Thank you for this well thought-out comment!

    I have my full-time job, and almost 2 years ago, I decided to start a natural hair YT page. I was very much hopeful when I started and didn't realize how challenging it could be. Fast-forward, it took me 1.5 years to land 1000 subscribers and still don't have the watch hours needed to be monetized. I do have to add, though, that I didn't put the pressure on myself to post consistently, but as I have gained more followers, it is true that everyone has an opinion, sometimes not so nice. I have had to block people due to inappropriate/insulting comments. It is a ruthless place. I find joy in posting, but I can see how doing this full time can be draining. Thanks for sharing.

    I agree… with all of this. As someone who has made natural hair content for a looooonnnnggg time- it’s not where it’s at, and UA-cam is completely different than when I started, which has complicated the whole thing for me. Also, consistency is key, and when you choose to pursue something (like UA-cam), you must be all in- and I’ve never had the goal of making videos or being on social media full time. About happiness as an influencer- it can be tough, because if you’re not in a good mood on a Content Day, either you’ll create horrible content or just charge that day to the game… I’m so proud of you, Jenn!

    • @JennJackson
      @JennJackson  Рік тому +2

      I keep telling the girls that natural hair content is not it but they won’t listen 😇. But yes, it is a commitment but nothing in life comes easy. Thanks for watching ❤️

    You're doing a great job, but never think of yourself as a failure if you have to shift gears. There is a lot of competition in this field. But you're making progress so just keep focusing on that!

    Thanks for talking about this! I related a lot to quite a few of your talking points about loneliness, other people's opinions, and difficulty becoming a savvy entrepreneur. Hearing about your experience has helped me realize that I need to be more intentional if I'm going to create a sustainable and happy life in this industry. Great Video!

    Going back to work is not a failure. Why not keep doing the 9-5 job until successful at UA-cam? A steady stream of income has its place.

    • @JennJackson
      @JennJackson  Рік тому +5

      I see where you are coming from but doing both is so draining! I did it for a decade and didn’t sleep for much of it trying to make it work.

      @@JennJackson Oh I see. Maybe you can look for a job with fewer hours to have that steady income. It's not the amount that counts, it's what you do with the amount that's flowing in. A Blogger's Job to stay in your field.

    Great topic! I'm not an influencer, nor do I want to take on that job. My hat 👒 goes off to each and every one influencer out there. It's seen to me a lot of work,getting sponsorship and getting your pay for what you're worth. The pay scale is lopsided. Keep the spirit and keep on!
