  • Dale and Alice Rockey are each 99 years old. They met as kids just after the turn of the last century, in the small town of Hemingford, Nebraska. As Lee Cowan reports, the group Worldwide Marriage Encounter crowned the Rockeys the Longest Married Couple of 2015, having been husband and wife for 81 years.

In middle school I had a girlfriend in the beginning of the school year she confessed her love for me in a poem so I obviously took it then we only dated for a week and she didn’t even seem into me, then I had another girlfriend who claimed she liked me all of middle school then I date her for only a week and she said she lost feelings for me...... During this interview, something really stuck out to me about what they have together, and what is probably a main ingredient to their long and happy marriage over 80 years; and seem to still be in love-and that something is laughter. The ability to banter, laugh at each other and theirselves, and probably life itself. That can be a glorious, special thing to share with someone. The ability to laugh together heals and helps a relationship so much. And I also noticed that they stick together. Committed to being by each others side. No matter what. Where there is one, there’s the other. So Beautiful. It gives me hope. They give me hope that love is still alive in this world we live in today. Love that can last a lifetime ❤️my grandparents were like that. But it’s much sadder. My grandfather and grandmother got married at 19. My grandfather was in the Navy, and he became missing in action during the Korean War. They never found him. My grandparents had been married 6 years when he disappeared. And they had two children. One of those kids is my Mom. He never came back and was presumed deceased. However, my grandmother loved him so much, that for the rest of her life (60 more years) she never had another man, went on a date, had a boyfriend, she considered herself still married, slept with his picture on her pillow every night, and wore her wedding ring till the day she died and never gave up hope that she would see him again someday. And she was beautiful. Stunningly beautiful. Red Auburn hair and beautiful green eyes. And a smile and face that lit up a room. Many Many MANY men tried to court her after he was declared deceased. And she rejected every one of them because in her mine SHE WAS MARRIED. And she didn’t need any man but her husband. She single handedly raised her two children on her own, acquired two rental properties for income, performed on stage and on the radio doing voice work, and never took welfare or any man’s hand out or advances. She was really something, my Gran. When she passed away, my grandfather’s picture was beside her. My wonderful extraordinary grandmother, who was a mezzo-soprano opera singer and business woman, showed me what true love looks like. What devotion and commitment look like. What hard work and determination look like. She showed me that hope can lift you up and get you through those times when the weight of the world is on your shoulders. And her life was a testament that love is real. Love you Gran. Miss you so much. But I know you’re with Pop pop now. And that you were right when you said you’d see him again someday. Love you ❤️

lived to celebrate their 75th wedding
Anniversary!! One of their kids, my grand-
mother threw a lavish party for them. They
both wore the clothes they were married
in to their party! That day, in the middle of
      the celebration, my great-grandfather began
to feel unwell, and he went back home. Hours
later, his wife also went home - and she found
that he had died, and on the day he got married!
She went to live with my grandparents. She lived to be well over one hundred years old!
I do remember her, but I was only 5 or 6 years
old when she passed away. I just remember
passing her bedroom many times and seeing
her in bed. Now I think she might have had a
stroke, because she couldn't talk by the time
I first met her. But, yeah, she was happily
married for seventy-five years - still able
to slip into her wedding gown after she
      had twelve children!

My parents were married 23 years but they were together for 28 years, not once did I ever see them fight. Argue? Occasionally but they never went to bed angry. Game night once a week or more. They were always doing things together. My mom is a brittle diabetic and my dad started watching out for and taking care of her when they started dating at 15...and she took care of him when he got gallbladder cancer. He was expected to live less than a week and he made it almost three years...they never once regretted having their first kid at 20 and their second at 26 (me!!). They weren’t religious, but they loved eachother and always put love and family first. They truly were made for eachother. This video made me tear up thinking about them, I miss my dad with all my heart and this couple reminds me of my parents so much. They never doubted what they had. They loved eachother and times were tough but they always made it work and I honestly believe it was my mom always being there than gave my dad the strength to live those 3 years...and she was up almost every hour those three years during the night to help care for him and not once did she complain...about a month before he passed she finally was so exhausted that my sister and I forced her to let us take care of him and she had to sleep...she slept 19hours straight and my dad just sat next to her for as long as he could take it with his surgery scars and just held her. They had the type of love I hope one day I have as well. No fairytale ending but truly love. “There are no happy endings. Endings are the saddest part. So give me a happy middle, and a very happy start.” -Shel Silverstein

agree! By getting married, I think, it is a way to show that you take a responsibility for another person! If you don`t agree, then - get married ;) Why not... Not many boys are ready nowadays, because it actually means responsibility, it`s a choice. You are with this person. Yes, believing in marriage itself is not enough, but in your hard work, in being ready to compromise, to listen, to accept the flaws of another person (that we all have). First feelings will fade with time, in any couple, and then people think love has gone. But it is the time for it, a step to it... if you love, show it, be patient, take care of another person, show how much you love another person. Usually girls are unhappy in the end, if just living with someone... take care of yourselves, dear girls.

Britt Pomales I really don’t know why people date each other for so many years without getting married. I know couples been together like 4, 5 years and no ring. It’s so strange. Are y’all unsure if they are the one? Marriage is a commitment but is your fear not worth the person you love?
