I don't mean to put a dark cloud over anything, but I must ask...if you were at Criterion at this point, there a few almost conflicting versions of how Jim Gordon was acting. This seems to be around the time that possibly people would notice the onset of little flashes of abnormality in him..maybe just a second or two, and I regard his stealing the piano coda from Rita Coolidge to get his name on credit seems odd in itself. An unspecified rift between he and Clapton was taking shape at that point as well. I was wondering if you had any memories of Jim lashing out or acting strange in any way. Just anything that might had caught your attention.
The first time I heard this song I was a young boy. I remember listening and saying to myself those guitars sound like two cats singing to each other what a lovely sound. Now as and old man I still hear those two cats and what a lovelier sound it has become. Thank you.

Just one thing to say -- this is top guitar work from 70, two of the best guitarists find each other. No competition between them, just getting the best out of each other and making wonderful guitar-rock. Almost everyone knows what we lost in Hendrix, but just a few have got with them that the loss of Duane Allman was in the same class.

Duane Allman was the greatest guitar player that the music industry has ever seen or heard. When it comes to Hendrix, Vaughn, Santana and Clapton Duane passed them all. These great musicians played almost all of their lives even regrettably some didn't live long lives. But they played for more than 10 years. Duane only was playing his AX for almost 7 years and slide for 3. Imagine if he had taken up the guitar at the same age as all these phenomenal musicians did. Such a marvellous song, with two great performers: EC and Duane Allman, the piece belongs to the world Olymp of greatest songs ever produced and performed ....! That is Layla!
Eric Clapton did not help write this song, Rita Coolidge wrote it and played it with The drummer Jim Gordon. Jim Gordon stole the song claimed it was his. The drummer stole the song. She confronted all of the band members, but Clapton’s manager Stigwood threaten to make her life impossible in the music industries. Duane just agreed to play on the album with Bobby Whitlock and others. Duane had no part in it. Eric Clapton and the took the credit for the song. Yes Layla while written by Eric was totally recreated and changed with the up-tempo riff by Duane as well as the long slide at the end - but if that wasn't commanding enough - Why Does Love have To Be So Sad to me is the song on the album where Duane goes into beast attack mode and really dominates the whole song and burns Eric a new a-hole. And I know its not a competition and they are just musicians digging each other - - that is simply for the Eric is God crowd.
@@johnjudd3120 Eric May have only asked Dwayne to play on Layla. When Eric heard Dwayne Allman play slide guitar he said “I need to meet this guy”. Both greats!
The votes are according to Rolling Stone number 1 Jimi Hendrix number 2 guitarist in the world none other than Duane Allman. For these sessions Eric Clapton approached Duane to play some guitar. One of the most popular songs in Rock and Roll. Duane comes into this song about midway thru but if you listen carefully you can say to yourself. yes that is Duane on the slide. Only lived to age 24 but what a magnificent talent. Greg Allman his brother took over the band after Duane passed and they are one of my favorite bands. Give the album Eat A Peach a spin you will know what I mean. Melissa, Blue Sky, and of course the epic monster Mountain Jam. No other band in the 70s sounded like them, they were just too damn good.
So at the end Duane takes his slide and touches the strings above the fret bar and makes the bird sounds. He did this in some other songs as well notably mountain jam. He developed this technique has a tribute to Charlie “bird” Parker the sax player whom he loved to listen to!!

+Jarrod Cook if you have Netflix, there's a documentary on Muscle Shoals that mentions it if you're curious about it
The greatest musicians pop stars or sports stars are always at they're best when they are just being themselves. No smoke no mirrors just talent.
No, smoke, no mirror, just talent and heroin.
Superb guitar playing!!!
Hot take: Duane's solo is awesome, but the licks he plays with the piano coda are just as awesome if not better!
I believe Duane Allman wrote the opening riff
Yes Layla while written by Eric was totally recreated and changed with the up-tempo riff by Duane as well as the long slide at the end - but if that wasn't commanding enough - Why Does Love have To Be So Sad to me is the song on the album where Duane goes into beast attack mode and really dominates the whole song and burns Eric a new a-hole. And I know its not a competition and they are just musicians digging each other - - that is simply for the Eric is God crowd.
Perfect! But let’s give it up for the piano too!❤️❤️ legends.!!
the ending is so on the money ,it's one of the best things I've seen on YT. thanx ,geclaes
Clapton new Sky Dog kicked his ass on Layla, and as a gentleman never denied that truth. helluva cat.
oh the random ahole that has to call out a typo. dickbag Austin Jansen
Austin Jensen he means Clapton knew skydog (Allman) kicked his arse on this recording
Not down playing Allman's contribution to Layla but two of the best songs on the album I looked away and Bell bottom blues Duane wasn't on either one
@@johnjudd3120 "Well thats just like, your opinion man" -The Dude
@@johnjudd3120 Eric May have only asked Dwayne to play on Layla. When Eric heard Dwayne Allman play slide guitar he said “I need to meet this guy”. Both greats!
I just got the book of music for this album today. Wonderful music. Thanks for posting it. :)
Progression.....Duane Allman, Dickie Betts, Derek Trucks.....Derek is The Best Slide Player in the World.....Bar None.......He has a pedegree that can't be denied......Saw him when he was 12 years old at Turtles in Holmes Beach!!!!!!
Young Allman challenged champion Clapton
And Clapton took it seriously
that's this super play
I think Clapton is a person of character.
That's why he's so trusted by Lennon and others.
Allman's plahing is stratospheric
前半で心が荒ぶり、後半で浄化して行く 名曲です
Duane Allman one of the World's Greatest Guitarist's... Nuff Said.!! Mr Dilly sure as Heck wishes he could have been at that Session 🙏👍 🎸 😎 ❤️ 🤟
11 yr old video with the best sound foe Layla I've heard on YT.
Can't help moving when I hear this masterpiece.
+larry shackleford And a MASTERPIECE it is!!!
It was Duane Allman who made the song Layla so good. Duane played 11 tracks on that album. EC never mentioned that!! Dane was the BEST.
AMEN!!!!
Duane was the BEST!!!!
Eric's voice when he screams Layla rips into your soul
The best rock and roll by the 2 best guitarist ever! If there is anything better let us know . Thank the Lord for the opportunity to cherish them in our lifetime !!
to me their only rival (apart from JIMI) was soon to die in a plane crash.
Duane's virtuosity was second to none Blues, Country & Western ,R&B,Jazz,Soul, ballots.
Played folk guitar, dobro, Fender Gibson slide complete virtuosity
The best ever !!! Duane und Eric, and not forgotten JIMI !!!
Clapton became a guitar diva who had to be the centerpiece. Duane Allman was never that way. Cigarette in mouth, dressed like a flower child, he simply occupied his guitar’s soul and played.
I was in the Army in 1971. We heard the news and all just put our tools down and stared at each other. Thankfully, Dwayne left many great songs for us to enjoy for years to come. We still pull out the live albums and sit in awe. All of the Allman Brothers Band were really, really good. The sound was so unique. Timeless!
Duane not Dwayne. xo
Eddie Sadler The great Duane allman with Eric. I saw them live at Pasadena civic 1970
They were in awe of each other, Dwayne said " I wish l could play like that dude in Cream " and EC snuck his way beyond the front row sat on the floor at Allman Brothers concert. Dwayne froze when he saw him. The rest is history! Rip Dwayne
Duane!
This is so amazing! Had no idea it was Duane p!aying the guitar.
