Interesting I usually try to improve my parrying by going into settings. Then turning off my controller and proceeding by slamming my controller a million times whenever I face a hito or an orochi. But that’s just me lmk if yaw know any better recommendations.
For those that are relatively serious about improving, I found that wired controllers have less input delay and can help reaction time. New gen hardware is obviously going to help too as there is less input delay and more frames. Also I like to train just blocking by setting my stamina to exhausted and having a character with a three light chain attack me.
it's been debunked that in modern hardware - a wireless controller vs a wired controller is so irrelevant our human response times cant even register the difference
@@PowerIsFever Well anyone can parry any lights if they make the right read you just spam lights in one direction or continually without mixing up and heavies
honestly the tipp that i should actually read the indicator instead of making a read where the attack is coming from helped me so damn much, i honestly got imediately better at defending going in with that mindset and not try to guess everything, thanks.
Another thing that could help people is the setting to turn on parry timing feedback. I know this has helped a couple of my friends who spam the parry button because it teaches them to press it only once
@3:27 I was taught that this technique is known as "dithering." You basically explained the concept, but it acts to lower the initial energy required to put oneself into motion. An object at rest, stays at rest. An object in motion...

That's how I learned to parry better, I still panic sometimes and press R2 too early and get hit but when I don't panic and I hit the parry I feel like god
Practicing against bots is useless cuz some of them be having the mangyeko sharingan unlocked and are able to see any move you throw at them. Therefore the fight has already been played out entirely inside their head and thus had read you like a fucking book.
I'm proud to say I managed to become good at parrying without any of these tips, I wish I found this crap sooner. Id just go Into dominion matches and play, play, play, play until I woke up one day and could perry consistently.
Once you learn how to parry on reaction, it becomes super easy when you combine that with making reads. You can have extremely slow reaction time and still manage to get light parries off reads
lol yeah that was my common problem in other games, for example cod, it's difficult to aim when you have to constantly fight the drift of the stick and if the left stick is the one that is drifting, it's almost impossible to consistently run
@@FourEditsYT My controller has no stick drift, isnt it better then to lower the deadzone since u dont have to travel with the stick as far as usually?
My issue isn't parrying. My issue is playing characters like Gladiator, who already can't block worth a shit, against Kensei, who can just magically stop all his forward momentum and teleport into a side heavy.
A funny lead for a lot of players when using a good but of characters is a heavy to a light or a light to a light. Isn't as impressive as developing reaction time but seeing patterns in attacks (like for example an LB getting a guaranteed heavy then throwing a light) and preparing for it. I am not a veteran player myself, but it is fun catching players in their zen, and seeing them realize that combo they use every day isn't unpredictable. Like one example I can give is in my skill level rn I'll get Kensei's who dodge, only dodge and then follow up with a light if they are not parried or superior blocked. They usually always throw the light in the same place. Same as two light combos, people usually forget to mix it up since they think it's guaranteed and will go against a player who prepares for that second light or even first light and then get upset that the opponent read them.
I discovered Edits like a month ago, and the more i watch his content the more i believe this channel Is a FH bless for us all. Thank you for your job!
It took me awhile, and alot of pain. But I can proudly say I can finally adapt, predict and react(sorta but no) to every move and play style I've seen in this game(tbf the difference in play styles either doesn't exist opponent to opponent or somebody is the embodiment of turtles or they embody only wanting to win no matter how many quick zones and storming rushes it takes.)
You can tell that when you are playing you are truly leaning into whatever you are doing. You are not panicking about whatever the dreaded future outcome could or could not be, you are simply there in the moment and do not let worries detract from your focus and rhythm. I feel this is so often the issue people have with learning to react with quick parries. They are overthinking it and in some manner trying to always predict so that their commitment may be as risk free as possible. Which then ironically generates enough doubt so that they fail to truly commit to anything and choke. Often without noticing. As you stated in this video, to make sure you are not just running off reads, (though they are also an essential component to this games experience) but you are simply seeing what is happening without the shroud of doubt and thus able to react accordingly. I enjoy your video's, you have become my favourite For Honor UA-camr. Keep up the good work.
Bro for me is literally impossible to parry lights on ps4. The light openers I can't even block on reaction. Only the chain lights I can parry sometimes if the animation is easy to read or they don't buffer it too much.
Yeah only PS5 or a PC can you react to lights, ps4 doesn't give you the frames to react to lights and not even e ough time to normally block them. The best case us to stop reacring and start adapting, learn their play style and what they commonly like to do , once you catch on to their style they'll start to switch up but one of two two swill happen after. One they'll panic or two they'll get comfortable. Either way they'll go back to the same patterns they know eventually. Me personally I have found it a ton easier to block the second light or ganks with he deadzone set from zero to 9 just in the single digits. What this does is allows you to move less of a distance with your thumb to block and react to hits.
Ok so I found I do better when moving my guard around but I always thought people would think it’s weird and not helpful so I stopped. Guess I’m going back, I did always feel like it helped

They are usually open for a top light during the left to right guards. Also every couple of matches i'll accidentally guard against a third party light attack that i wasn't even aware of.
It's so crazy being a console player and then watching how much frames make a difference on PC. You can actually see the full animation for the light attack and it looks like a completely different fucking game. These light attack look like a conq zone it's ridiculous how slow they seem.
