      @user-zq9ey8zj2g Not even close. Try again. English long bows were traditionally between 80-120#, and traditional archery today is usually right around 50-60#.
      I shoot traditional archery and am a part of a few groups dedicated to traditional archery skills. I have also studied ancient war weaponry and tactics.
      You obviously realize that a bow at 150# is extremely difficult to pull back and use. It's very counter productive to even make a bow that high of draw weight. The idea in battle was field as many as possible, not 0.000001% of the army.

    Very nice 🙂
    That's a fairly modern design made by a guy called Penobscot who figured out how to get a half decent tension from relatively low poundage bows, great if you can't find a suitable piece of wood for a self bow, a bow of a single piece usually made of a more flexible material like ash or yew.
    I've used a penobscot it's a great design but I don't think I've ever come across one with over an 80lb draw? Which is good enough for hunting game I guess

    • @auchpup
      @auchpup 7 місяців тому +1

      Maybe just try with a 80lbs string?

    • @sammy_porkchop
      @sammy_porkchop 7 місяців тому +1

      Having never hunted game (with the exception of missing lots of rodents as an exuberant youth), Id hazard a guess that much more than 80lbs and you lose control of arrow flight, as if holding it steady waiting for game to give a good shot

    • @ronandixon8486
      @ronandixon8486 6 місяців тому +1

      I don't know where you heard that origin from, but the reason it is called a penobscot bow is because it originates from the Penobscot people of northern America. It's not a particularly modern design at all. Also, how heavy the draw weight is entirely depends on the maker and the wood, and 80 is more than enough for hunting.

    • @CoffeeFiend1
      @CoffeeFiend1 Місяць тому

      @@ronandixon8486 This is incorrect it was made by William Penobscot, he was inspired by Mary Recurve, John Longbow and Timothy Selfbow (who actually copied Hubert Bundle).

    • @LeoMLI
      @LeoMLI 5 місяців тому

      In his bow it will hold quite well but if we do one it will take some set especially if the wood is not dry. If you watch 4:00 he heats the main bow to make a preamptive curve to the belly so it would not lose tension as much. Also dries it heating it that way so it will be tougher.

      In a real survival, without a blade to use, you need to find cutting rocks to work things like this. To locate a decent cutting rock, knock any two rocks together and if one makes a tinny, dinging sound, then it should fracture easy enough to make a cutting edge.
