I saw your comment 2 days ago and decided to try it. Woke up this morning, went to lowes to grab 2 snow marking sticks at 48" long. Cut them down to 33" 1/2" and widdled a 5" handle from some scrap wood i had lying around. Used some jute twine for the string. I spent maybe 3 hours on it, maybe a few minutes less. Im sad to say the rods I was able to find were not strong enough, maybe had a 10lb pull at the least. The rods that were available were 1/4", maybe 3/8" or 1/2" rods would have been better. I night try making arrows from them tomorrow instead. Will update with progress if I decide to try.
@mikehawkslong5529 A yeah, that is too thin, mine were 10mm thats close to 3/8”… As for arrows i think that would be maybe too heavy, probably over 1000grains, but let me know, I’m interested 😀
I love how it performs given the lack of traditional skill required to make it. You didn't really have to balance the limbs, didn't have to worry about alignment, none of the fine adjustments a bowyer would have to make to get it tuned. And despite all that, this sucker really competes. Brilliant idea, and fantastic shooting.
