Massive flooding had traffic completely stopped for at least 6 of those hours. I had taken my sister for cancer treatment, and we left Wilmington at noon. Wow! I used to live in Sunset Harbor and for awhile Bolivia. Heartbreaking and such devastation. And all just from Rain 😢 My Heart and Prayers go out to Everyone who was Affected by This. Truly Devastating.
I have never seen so many roads and highways get washed out as did with that unnamed tropical cyclone. It may not have the winds, but southeastern NC has been saturated with rain over the past weeks. Praying we don't have any major wind for awhile. The trees are already starting to lean! Im on the coast next to Camp Lejeune.
I've seen so much destruction and so many lives lost do to peoples negligence. What do people think the term TURN AROUND DONT DROWN MEANS? No one thinks a road can wash out. Wow that's a lot of damage. Positive thoughts and good vibes for all that are affected.. Be safe Drew
Thank you storms can be devastating. I can imagine if we had 100 mile an hour winds with 20 inches of rain in 12 hours. That would’ve been even more devastating obviously
Sad to see, I grew up there until I moved away in 97. That area was always swampy if I have bearings correct. Even in the 80's. I would have never thought of building there.
I moved here in the 90s. It was swamp. So since the early 2000s there was a push to build more here and it's gotten worse in the last 4 years. Constantly tearing down trees and pushing in dirt to fill in the swamps. Then they build houses and people pay half a million for it just to be screwed over their first storm. Even our house when it was first built in the 90s flooded Everytime it rained. Our yard. The last 4 years have been the worst. I'm trying to get Out of Brunswick bc it's nothing but rich old people trying to get families to move in so they can make more money. The commissioners are all in the real estate business and I suspect from up north. We've put in Michigan turns and circles and someone in this county really hates Left hand turns. The people here can't drive or read. No one knows what a yield sign is or how to yield to traffic. It's all push out into traffic and go under the speed limit mentality. I now hate it here. I hate Brunswick County and most of its residents. I can't afford to move bc the few jobs we have are taken or they only pay 9.25 an hour. It's horrible. I'm struggling with my mental health bc I'm just not rich enough to live here
Mr. Drew I've called it "The Wetlands" since the start of construction. The developer to know this would happen! My thoughts and prayers are with these families 🙏
In-laws live in BSL. They got lucky no water in house. As a resident of Pender County my prayers go out to y’all. Lord knows we have seen flooding here several times.
@@ScrappingwithGrandpa I lived on Lizard Lick at the end of White Stocking Road when Bertha and Fran came through it was pretty bad. But was glad I was gone when Floyd came through. The home I was in had water to the roof. Had to boat in to help friends so I understand how bad it can get. One thing people might want to think about is if you have been walking through the water is a tetanus shot.
Excellent video Grandpa. The pictures clearly showed the devastation that happened to our community, and the result of greedy builders literally taking the high road by not properly grading the properties. Needless to say, with all the new communities being built down here, and where they are built, I question the County Commissioners in their rubber stamping these developments.
Howdy neighbor I live in Fair bluff NC we had flooding, but not like that this time the Beaches got hit hard . You sound like you're originally from up north I am as well , but been here 30 plus years now. I subbed my friend does a lot of scrap metal I did it myself a few times . I clean houses at N Myrtle Beach and work at a grill a few days ain't retirement wonderful 😂 . God bless we have another storm heading our way I love across from the lumber River I'm on the high side so I don't get flooded but you can't get out either.
I’m terribly sorry! God be with you through this terrible time! May the guy that lost his life rest in peace! No one deserves that even if they go around barriers. I know that’s not what you was saying. That’s terrible
Hurricane Florence dumped 20 inches of rain here it was incredible. I never went to live through one of them again although I know I will because of where I live.
I feel lucky next door in Columbus Co. Thanks for your footage Grandpa. Builders don't care. The county approves it for growth and taxes. I bought high ground 25 years ago. I just come down to hunt and fish, and I'm starting the end of the month.
Im so sorry Grandpa but I couldnt watch the whole video. So much devastation and destruction. God Bless all of you that are going through this. I am so thankful that you and your family are ok. The areas around this got over 18” of rain in 12hours. That is 1000 year flood level. As in once in a thousand years. These neighborhoods are also not in a flood zone in the maps. Now maybe the maps need to be redrawn but with fast development and the time it takes to study water inundation patterns, the maps would just be outdated instantly. It’s incredibly rude to say boo hoo they built there why cry about it, these people didn’t know, no one really KNEW. There was water over a mile of main 4 lane, that has nothing to do with maintenance, it has to do with a lake of water dumping out of the sky all at once.
@@DemonicAnimatronic At last, someone with common sense! All the valleys are flood prone because that's how they were formed. In the small community where I was born there are no big rivers, but once a tropical wave, just a tropical wave, went stationary over us, and the rain it dumped made the smallest creek (and it isn't really a creek) flood so high that people who thought they would never see a flood, got flooded! Is not about a stupid weather war, it is climate change!
I live in Brunswick county ash to be exact it was a very bad storm and today we got hit with more rain just after everything started opening back up and the road were drivable again we get hammered all the time
Praying for those people, thanks for letting us see the damage caused by the heavy rain. I would love to see legislation make a law that would make the builder responsible for some of the cost. They knew that it was a possibility of flooding and they should have added dirt and built up the property where the house is being built. If they would have done it, they would created a drainage channel for the water to follow. Stay safe brother and I look forward to more videos. Prayers for everyone and the family of the gentlemen that lost his life.
Whenever people complain about how long it takes to build/repair/modify roads and streets i always think of videos or times that I have seen where they have been washed away from flooding or because of seismic activity which compromised the integrity of the "foundation" underneath. Beautiful houses. But sometimes a mobile home is the better choice. If ya know, ya know😉
I live in Pender county we had over 10 inches of rain. If this storm had wind it would be called a hurricane. No wind and it gets less attention. Usually water damage is more extensive than wind damage.
Brunswick County Board of Commissioners have a meeting Monday September 23rd about road conditions in Brunswick County at 6:00 p.m. the meeting will be at 30 government Drive Bolivia 28422. This was intended for a pre-storm meeting so it'll be interesting to see how it goes now. Thanks a lot for everything scrapping with Grandpa I enjoyed our phone conversation the other night much love Grandpa ❤❤❤
Im in Onslow County and I have seen developers clear swampland and backfill it to build homes. I tell people to look at the size of the ditches in front of the houses. Those aren't the wet weather creeks that got filled in, and mother nature will eventually take back what was hers!
@ScrappingwithGrandpa it was pretty intense, but no long term damage. I am not far from the community college and if the rain continued for even 30 more minutes I'd probably be looking at serious flood damage.
It blows my mind that all the houses there aren't built on stilts. I lived in Wilmington for a little bit and a co worker told me it floods like this every 6-10 years or so
@@archangelrevelations9532 listen I can just hope that it doesn’t come my way because if it does, we’re in trouble because right now the ground is so full of water that there’s no place for it to go literally no place for it to go so if we have another storm we’re in troublesoutheast North Carolina will be devastated not try. I'm a too am a native of North Carolina, I live on the Coastal Carolinas border, Brunswick Co side at the Cawcaw Swamp. He is right, the rain was heavy. But I challenge you to consider. . . When you have Thousands of New Yorkers and The Jersey folks move in on top of small coastal communities. They have to figure out how and where they are going to live. We'll folks this is the Coastal Carolinas, swamp and wet lands, and they are being plundered and filled in. Well consider, the water when it comes has to go somewhere. It's well known that water has memory. It is a result of man trying to move Mother nature out of his way. ...just saying

You asked the difference in the mountains verses where you are at by a lake yes rods got washed out same in the mountains hoses got flooded in yor area but a heck of alot of people in the mountains well their houses or pieces of what was their house are scattered for miles along mountains strums and rivers
Oh, I have to agree after we had our storm they had hurricane Helene in the western North Carolina. Our storm was nothing compared to theirs as we’ve lost a few roads and bridges. They literally lost houses that got washed down the river. What a terrible site made me sick. our storm was next to nothing Friends in Batcave that were trapped for a long time
Oh, and I am not trying to upset people. I know what Flood Zoning is. Yes, it helps, but some can't afford to move or have flood insurance. So yes, it's not good to live in a flood zone, this I know all too well. So, like I stated, not trying to upset, just giving my point of view on this matter. Just that some can't afford to be moved, or move from where they have probably lived most of their lives. I completely understand your point of view as well. I take all into consideration and wished everyone felt this way, but I guess most don't...
@@ScrappingwithGrandpa You are welcome. I do get it, that they shouldn't have built those beautiful homes there where you drove through the subdivision. So so sorry for all the loss! Here we go again, this go round on the west side of NC! Hurricane Helena! No one is safe anymore anywhere! Our infrastructure has completely fallen to 💩!!! And no one In gov’t office cares! Truth 101! 😢
The creeks are not being cleaned out either in a long time but god forbid that some sand leaves the beaches they’ll be there faster than you can say uncle!!!
I advise people not to build on a floodplain , I’ve had the tell me , oh that was in the past it’ll never happen again . Lol ! We have high water flow every few years , my Dad was flooded out when they were kids . He always made sure we were in a area where it’s impossible for it to flood . He alway teased his old friend , telling everyone that he needed a rowboat to dig his potatoes . Why you would continue to live in a place where it floods constantly , lots of land here where it can’t flood . 👍🇨🇦
@@ScrappingwithGrandpa the worst part is they’re aware is floods but they keep rebuilding and living on the same piece of land . I’m not talking about water merely backing up into your place , there’s that . But they live right next to a powerful major river , the Skeena
@@ScrappingwithGrandpa I saw a video by a woman, who also lives in BSL, that dropped her flood insurance last year because she was told that she did not live in a flood zone. We know how that turned out don't we. Like yourself, feel very sorry for these folks.
These freakishly disastrous storms ( an other strange disasters ) are coming increasingly more & more often than ever before. Its stepped up since the year 2000. Maybe thats what they meant when they were predicting the world would end in 1999 !! PS. The pictures you took of your area, show more damage to the land, than other people have. Sure hope you all get some well needed help from the Government.
There’s a difference in needing rain and getting a deluge of rain and besides that it’s all the building and stripping of trees. Brunswick county has seen an explosion of building and the more asphalt the more the rain has no where to go.
I do feel for all that helene's wrath changed people's lives weather it be trees down in yards flooded hoeses no hose even where it used to be a house , what matters most is all coming together u.s.a. and world wide to help all get back into their homes or build many people a home , the realy saddning part with the flooding in the mountains of western north Carolina is all the lives lost for it was a much different situation here in the foothils and expecaly in the mountains how do I know I rode Helen out in my 2009 jeep liberty 4 x 4 that has a lift kit on it, I used to live in western north Carolina from June 2008 till November 2016 no I was not born in the south I am what you world call a dam Yankee in 2020 and still I'm living in my vehicle I'm disabled living on a monthly check how did I end up in my vehicle it was a riff with a friend's family so I left , my life is my business , but getting back to things flood warning where issued but the water was rising so fast that many got out of thir bed only to find 6 inches of water and by the time they got to the front door the water was 3 to 4 feet deep and they where trying to get to there homes rooves many where asleep and got washed away hoes and all where I was located at the base of the mountain which is referd to as the foothils helene' right quadrant of its eye and there was still a defined eye it past through the town I was in with around 110 mph wind gusts
God promised that floods wouldn't destroy the world again, but he didn't say there wouldn't be anymore flooding. I think we are in the End Times. The Bible talks about the end of time, and everything is says is happening right now. Maranatha. Come quickly Lord Jesus. Amen!
Houses are NOT SAPPOSE TO BE BUILT IN 100 YEARS FLOOD PLAINS! SO...DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE BUYING! Hurricane insurance DOES NOT COVER FLOODING. Grandpa will get a lot of $$$ from ignorant people. I HAVE SEEN THIS SO MANY TIMES FIRST HAND DRIVING THROUGH THE YEARS. I was 1st to volunteer FEMA loads. OK rant over.
I agree with everything here is actually a flood zone we live in a place called Boiling, Spring, Lakes. One of the roads that was devastated is called 50 Lakes Dr. because there’s lakes on both sides of the street. Definitely couldn’t handle this much.

@@EWasteJILL these houses are not on the flood maps. If they were they would be required to have flood insurance. When not in a listed flood zone, the insurance is optional and not often talked about for first time home buyers. This is not just a coastal issue either, I went through the 2010 flood in Nashville, lots of houses destroyed there that should have never flooded. Maybe the answer is not allowing slab homes anymore by code?

I've seen so much destruction and so many lives lost do to peoples negligence. What do people think the term TURN AROUND DONT DROWN MEANS? No one thinks a road can wash out. Wow that's a lot of damage. Positive thoughts and good vibes for all that are affected.. Be safe Drew
Thanks. I agree 100% that was a bad mistake. Cost him his life.
Sending up prayers for y'all 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you storms can be devastating.
I'm struggling with my mental health bc I'm just not rich enough to live here
Agree 100 💯
Mr. Drew I've called it "The Wetlands" since the start of construction. The developer to know this would happen! My thoughts and prayers are with these families 🙏
So you’re here in bsl. I did video of it a yr ago. I said this would happen

In-laws live in BSL. They got lucky no water in house. As a resident of Pender County my prayers go out to y’all. Lord knows we have seen flooding here several times.
A lot of places did get flooding inside their houses
True. So true. I have moved here when I was 15. I’ve seen that property underwater so many times.
Hopefully the storm didn’t get you too bad hey Eileen was scary for some places. I hope you survived. OK I was praying.
I’m terribly sorry! God be with you through this terrible time! May the guy that lost his life rest in peace! No one deserves that even if they go around barriers. I know that’s not what you was saying. That’s terrible
It’s a terrible thing for anybody to lose their life no matter what the situation. Thank you for the comment.

When I bought a house here in North Carolina I had no idea if it was in a flood zone or not. I'm just glad it's not.

Awesome video.
Thanks for the visit
I live in Havelock. I remember how bad Newport got hit when Florence came through.
Hurricane Florence dumped 20 inches of rain here it was incredible. I never went to live through one of them again although I know I will because of where I live.
I live in Fair bluff Florence and Mathew destroyed our town.
@@ScrappingwithGrandpa hopefully Helene isnt bad. Good luck this weekend.
The only good thing that came out of Florence was the money i made doing drywall.
I feel lucky next door in Columbus Co. Thanks for your footage Grandpa. Builders don't care. The county approves it for growth and taxes. I bought high ground 25 years ago. I just come down to hunt and fish, and I'm starting the end of the month.
That’s a good idea. Come visit might not wanna live here. Hurricanes flooding all kinds of crap.
Awesome. Love to meet you if your in Brunswick county Nc
@@DemonicAnimatronic agree 💯 percent. Judgmental people suck!
What can your brothers in other counties do to help with the cleanup?
I think everyone is coming together
I live in Brunswick county ash to be exact it was a very bad storm and today we got hit with more rain just after everything started opening back up and the road were drivable again we get hammered all the time
It’s a terrible thing. I don’t know what we’re gonna do if we get a hurricane.
I agree
Whenever people complain about how long it takes to build/repair/modify roads and streets i always think of videos or times that I have seen where they have been washed away from flooding or because of seismic activity which compromised the integrity of the "foundation" underneath.
Beautiful houses. But sometimes a mobile home is the better choice. If ya know, ya know😉
I agree thanks for commenting and you visit
I live in Pender county we had over 10 inches of rain. If this storm had wind it would be called a hurricane. No wind and it gets less attention. Usually water damage is more extensive than wind damage.
Incredibly bad how was it in Pender county did you have the same amount of flooding?
I'm in Fair bluff we had some wind from 30 up to 60 miles per hour some crazy stuff, but I'm a little inland.
i'm STILL stuck at home. how are the roads out there? if i could even get out, is it worth it? my neighborhood bridge is gone.

Are these houses on slabs? That makes flooding even more likely.
Yes, they are and the slabs are cracking everywhere

Im in Onslow County and I have seen developers clear swampland and backfill it to build homes. I tell people to look at the size of the ditches in front of the houses. Those aren't the wet weather creeks that got filled in, and mother nature will eventually take back what was hers!
Exactly I agree 100% big mistake. Quit making all these clearing.

Howdy! Your neighbor in Bolivia
How did you do in Bolivia as far as the weather goes?
@ScrappingwithGrandpa it was pretty intense, but no long term damage. I am not far from the community college and if the rain continued for even 30 more minutes I'd probably be looking at serious flood damage.
It blows my mind that all the houses there aren't built on stilts. I lived in Wilmington for a little bit and a co worker told me it floods like this every 6-10 years or so

Lake Priscilla. It belongs to Sonny point military.

Thanks for your input

I advise people not to build on a floodplain , I’ve had the tell me , oh that was in the past it’ll never happen again . Lol ! We have high water flow every few years , my Dad was flooded out when they were kids . He always made sure we were in a area where it’s impossible for it to flood . He alway teased his old friend , telling everyone that he needed a rowboat to dig his potatoes . Why you would continue to live in a place where it floods constantly , lots of land here where it can’t flood . 👍🇨🇦
It’s absolutely crazy. I’m not sure why people would build any flood zone. I say before you buy investigate.
@@ScrappingwithGrandpa the worst part is they’re aware is floods but they keep rebuilding and living on the same piece of land .
I’m not talking about water merely backing up into your place , there’s that . But they live right next to a powerful major river , the Skeena

Hello my friend where have you been? It’s been a while.
I believe the end is close closer than we can imagine everything through Jesus praise the Lord the Lord will be the best government ever
Turn around don't drown !
True, I won’t do that again
not good at all!
why are they so upset about the rain i know the flooding but they needed the rain it was dry
You try going through that?
I went through Harvey here in Texas 2017 54 Inches of rain I feel your pain brother prayers to your community
There’s a difference in needing rain and getting a deluge of rain and besides that it’s all the building and stripping of trees. Brunswick county has seen an explosion of building and the more asphalt the more the rain has no where to go.
