    1 year after buying K3, this is exactly the path that I am currently on. Gradually growing hate on the low profile of K3 as the more I used it that I just ordered a list of products, including tools, board and switches worth 300$ to try to build my first keyboard. 😂

    • @MartinAaberge
      @MartinAaberge  2 роки тому +1

      I still use it as my daily driver, but that is mainly because I haven’t built the $700 keyboard I have lying in the corner. Haha. That’s the problem being a UA-camr. You have to film everything so I can’t build it if I’m not ready for a 6 hour shoot 😂

    I have a mac book pro 2020, how do I charge this keyboard? Is it charging when wired connected to the mac book?
    Since the wire is usb c - usb a, you need a dongle to connect it to mac book, right? Sorry, first timer here. Thanks.

    • @MartinAaberge
      @MartinAaberge  3 роки тому

      Hi Jhie. Thank you for your question. If you watch my k7 review on my channel you can see that you can buy a usb-c to usb-c cable for these keyboards. I would use bluetooth for the macbook and charge it via any usb-c to usb-c, like the ipad pro charger or any other usb-a to usb-c. The standard cable is usb-a to usb-c so any phone charger and whatnot could potentially charge it :)

      @@MartinAaberge Thank you so much for answering! But if in any case I use it on wired connection- is it charging when wired connected to the mac book even if I am using it? Or do I have to turn if off while using it or something?
      Also, I use a 20W usb-c to usb-c charger on my iPhone 11, is that okay for this keyboard?
      I appreciate your time, sorry, I don’t know these things. 😆

    Hey, fellow K3 owner here, great video!
    I bought mine with black switches for the heavier weight and now I'm looking to buy a set of clicky switches.
    What's your opinion on the weight of the blue switches - are they too light to activate or just right?
    If they're too light I might try out the orange switches which are the heavier clicking switches.

    • @MartinAaberge
      @MartinAaberge  3 роки тому +2

      Hey A Giraffe. I usually rest my fingers on the keys and have not misclicked on the blues. I think the actuation force is pretty good on these. Why not try both orange and blue 😀? I like heavier switches, but you might want to consider fatigue as well. If you type A LOT, it might be tough on your fingers after a while. Orange is the heaviest of the bunch 🤔

    I'm using K4 and found that there is a drawback for Mac users. The original Apple keyboard layout has both the right edges of the X key and the CMD key are aligned. So the travel distance between the CMD and C is minimized when you copy something. But all Keychron keyboards have a different spacing design so that I have this issue with K4.

    I got one for myself and I can't say that I'm happy with it. I am heavy keyboard user and I've been using Apple's magic keyboard before this. I'm so much into wireless, that I didn't want to try any other keyboard, but here I am, typing from K3.
    Why I'm not happy with K3? Because I am still getting used to the weird keyboard layout and super sensitive keys, as well as the awful battery life.
    With Apple keyboard, I had around a month of battery... I doubt that K3 backlit has anything to do with battery that much, but even when fully disabled, K3 battery lasts 2 days TOP!
    I'll say that battery is my main issue here. Why couldn't they integrate better battery!?

    • @MartinAaberge
      @MartinAaberge  3 роки тому +2

      You are right about the battery issue. The magic keyboard lasts forever, this one does not. I turned off the sleep mode cause I didn’t want the startup lag. If you turn that on, you will at least save some bettery. I don’t know which switches you have, but if they are the browns, I have a video on how to make them less sensitive. If you have linear switches, like white, you might want to look into red and black cause the actuation force is greater so it requires more force to push them down. The K3 is slim, so there is not much room for a bigger battery, I would assume. If you come from the magic keyboard, then yes, you are used to a certain type of perfection. You get the mechanical feeling here, but you also lose some of that Apple engineering.

    • @dvlden
      @dvlden 3 роки тому +2

      @@MartinAaberge Thank you for your reply!
      Yes, literally lasts forever on Apple's Magic Keyboard. I have disabled that "battery saving" mode too, because it is really annoying. Sometimes while I work, I do some research and while I'm reading something, keyboard gets disconnected. I have white switches, seems like I made a mistake buying those.
      Yeah K3 is slim, but I'd say that Apple's keyboard is way slimmer, yet there's a place for good battery... 🤷‍♂️
      It's so unfortunate that Apple doesn't want to release space-gray Magic Keyboard without numeric part, so that I can swap the K3 with it.

    • @MartinAaberge
      @MartinAaberge  3 роки тому +1

      I don’t see any reason why you would need RGB. Light has two use cases imo.
      1) to act as a backlight when it is dark
      2) as I say in the video, to be sure you hit keys with visual feedback.

    man i dont think you understand the term of mechanical keyboard a semi mechanical and the old rubber caps. As for not being mechanical i think you are not ready or is not the best keyboard for you the low profile. This keyboard gave you the posibility to change between diferent keys types or to combine so maybe you just use it for things that are not for you.

    which one better? K2 V2 or K3?

    • @MartinAaberge
      @MartinAaberge  3 роки тому

      Hi adityaprihandy. I think that depends. They are quite different in shape. The K3 is a low profile keyboard and aims to be as thin as possible. The K2 is a more normal build. The switches on the K3 are a lot thinner so you won’t have the same rich feel that you have with a full sized switch. However, you get a slimmer keyboard. The k3 is hot swappable and I noticed you can order a hot swappable version og the K2 now as well.
      It boils down to what you are after. The only thing that really separate the two is the build(k2 you can get full alu) and the switches+keys. Other than that they look identical to me in layout and features.

The RGB lights have stopped working now too. I contact them and they say "Oh, you must ship back to Hong Kong, it will be expensive, plus you lose initial shipping". They didn't want to deal with it. They wanted to send me a battery - sorry, no..this is a brand new keyboard. Now, they say to ship it to this scam place in Portland, OR and they'll refund me. Yeah, just ship it to ChenYaoQiang...Seriously? Do NOT buy from this scam company. There's no warranty or after purchase support. They're scammers!

    • @killers31337
      @killers31337 3 роки тому

      The point of tactile feedback is to get a reliable and consistent feedback while typing. Then it's up to your preference, perhaps some people like longer travel distance, I actually don't - lowest amount of effort which gives consistent results is a way to go for me.
      I have buckling spring IBM model M for a reference. It is kind of cool, but I gravitated towards low travel distance keyboards over time.
      As for Apple, even hated butterfly switches provide sufficient tactile feedback for me - travel distance is minuscule, but there's a very distinctive 'click', and for me it is enough. The problem with butterfly keyboard is that tiniest pieces of dirt getting under keys get it unreliable. I dunno if that is fixed in 'magic' version.
