    Hi
This car came to me, after a new turbo failed to sort the problem with the lack of power; on this 2010 Nissan Qashqai 1.5dci.
Not an easy one this time, when I thought I have nailed it, a twist made me scratch my head, as what could be wrong with it!...
Follow me on this video, to find put what the problem was and how to resolve it.
    Hope you enjoy the video.

The solenoid is bad, cat cracked 100% no good, turbo sized.
Good job, nothing changes outcome all parts needed changing, to it looks like turbo is remanned and it's not assembled correctly. But you did it you know better :).
keep them coming, it's always easier to write a stupid comment :).Lets those show their work on camera.
You work with limited tools space outside, and you are brilliant, garages have all equipment and they don't complete the job. There is no room for bad comment. Cheers man!

Totally agree. Luis is approaching complex or even simple issues from an engineer's perspective. Majority of garages and dealerships don't even care about the quality of their repairs , its even debatable if they have true troubleshooting skills. Luis beats them all anytime ! ✌️

People used to laugh when I test drove cars with the exhaust removed after changing a turbo . I always said " so I know how it works without restriction ". I must say , I did and do a fair share of freeing up variables but it is always carbon and sooth . You did a fine job and I can understand that you changed out the cat . You for sure ain´t living in a place to do test drive´s without exhausts or regenerations .

I have one identical but mine goes 3 cm on the actuator, while yours goes only half way there. Your actuator screw doesn't reach that stopper position. You could clean it with the Valvoline turbo clean. Spray a couple of times in , wigle a bit the turbo so the liquid goes in the mechaninsm, leave it a couple of secs and move the actuator till it releasing.Iy needs a bit pushing but not excesively. I broke mine ring with the screwdriver . I don't know how you manage to take that ring of. Mine is completely stuck. Didn't know how to take out the ring. But to tell you one thing , mine had a protection system that blocks the the turbo shaft from rotating once the exhaust part is dismantled. Your's doesn't have. It was probably a reconditioned one. This turbo is badly designed as the actuator is fixed with screws on the intake side. The intake side needs to be marked before dismantling otherwise because there's no key to prevent it being mounted in a different position the actuator position will change if no markings are made on the intake side screws fixings. The exhaust side has a key pin to insure is properly remounted back on the core. If the car consumes oil in the cylinders because of worn piston rings it will surely get the turbo blocked if the actuator doesn't move.

Its very easy for people to be wise after the event. The job the garage did fitting the turbo was a disgrace. I would bet they did not prime the turbo with oil for starters. I have never seen vanes in a turbo as tight as that to be honest.

    • @LMAutoRepairs

Looks like those turbo inlet vanes also took some heat damage and deformed, which is what caused the seizure. I'd guess that the collection of hot gases behind the turbo exhaust caused the exhaust side to overheat.

you can see the cat is crack inside and new turbo seize up because the controler was leaking vacuum and it was not moving the lever on the turbo when part don't move they seize up ,if the car was fix at the moment the problem started it would of cost lest.

I changed oil and oil filter every 6000 even though book said 12,000 and I had no engine related issues. I used to red line that car just to get about, fairly heavy car for such low BHP, but with sports suspension could make up for slow straight line with faster bends.

Is this something you need specialist tools for? How would one go about calibration of a turbo actuator?
I presume that stop screw plays into it.
Would the turbo need to be open to see the veins opening in relation to the stop screw?
People would probably value this information if you can supply it or refer to it somewhere else?

      Yes and no...

Does the trial and error involve using the live data to track like you do in this video?
Only asking because when I get the multi-spline drivers and the parts you should replace when removing the turbo, I’ll be looking to remove, inspect and service/replace my VW 1.9 BXE engine’s turbo since I have that exact same lack of boost, the vacuum solenoid looks like something I should be inspecting too.
And since my turbo issues have been going on nearly 5 years now (my mechanic didn’t want to touch it, Garage’s want too much for my wallet to stand) I suspect the cat will possibly be a problem for my car too.

Can ask for something extra... when you diagnose something, can you a little bit more comment (talk) on how the stuff works? like the turbo vanes, when are they actuated, why are they actuated, etc; I am not asking for a masters here, just a tad more info for us that know way less than you can understand a little bit more how the system works.
