What a wonderful performance of this beautiful, underappreciated concerto! I just taught it to a student and it's so rewarding to hear and to play! Bravo!
An epic composer who should get more mainstream attention. The Golden Voyage of Sinbad is one of my favorite movies, and everything else I've hear of his is epic
Bravo! Gilad Karni really "owns" this great concerto, though it was premiered by Zukerman. Such tenderness in the playing, such vigor from the orchestra . . . and all of this (I suppose) live and unedited. Wonderful sound, unfussy camerawork. What a pleasure!
He was born in Budapest, and He won acclaim at Hollywood by Ben-hur's score. We can understand he is a best composer in Hungary in 20th,when listen this concert.
Another one of those "Should be better known" works. And its composer. I gather his works were not totally unknown a little time back as it was a work by Rozsa (Theme, Variations and Finale) that awaited Leonard Bernstein in 1943 when he found himself standing in as conductor at very short notice for a unwell Bruno Walter. Other composers on the programme were Schumann, Wagner and Richard Strauss--it was no doubt a hell of a concert.
It has to do with the elitism of the classical world. Very few film composers get the concert hall exposure they should because the establishment dos not take film composers as serious concert composers.
Indeed it was. The CD from the NYPhil of the concert show that it was an incredible debut for Bernstein. And the event did make the front page of the NYTimes, I think.
Muy buenas Obras de este gran músico-compositor, su música siempre vivirá en mis recuerdos por las grandes composiciones para las Películas de Ben Hur, Rey de Reyes y muchas mas, que forman parte de mi infancia y juventud, gracias por esta música.
It’s an Iizuka model viola (need to see it up close to see if it made by Philadelphia maker Hiroshi Iizuka himself). The outline is based on the viola d’amore, and the sloping shoulders allow for more maneuverability despite the enlarged pattern.
Sounds just like the violin concerto, down a bit and miss out a few notes! :-) Amazing articulation and projection - is that what the viola design achieves, though masterful execution too of course.

*Viola has entered the room; everyone, **#bow** down.*

He was born in Budapest, and He won acclaim at Hollywood by Ben-hur's score. We can understand he is a best composer in Hungary in 20th,when listen this concert.
Fine assessment of Rozsa and his work, but don't foget that Hungary also gave the world Bartok and Kodaly. Not bad!

gorgeous until cut off at the end. I'll have to look for this on cd
I do not hear any mistakes at all but maybe you have much better ears....
this is a grear performance of a great concerto, a masterpiece.
beamissimo!!
Bravo... Bravo!!!
I like it !!!!!! super!!!!!
チェロでもなくバイオリンでもなく摩訶不思議な音。
A good musician is very cool that the violist give play and write new works, unfortunately, not always the case....
Please, the end....??????
I want to learn how to play this Concerto. Maybe I'll ask my viola instructor.
ChrisTheViolaNerd Do you happen to have the score?
nice
The ending is cut off! Boo!
Wow, very short last movement---less than 2 minutes. Okay, what did you do with the rest of it? Own up.
That viola is huge. Glad I'm not playing that monster.

Needed a Romanian conductor. Blood sausage, onions, cabbage and paprika.Yes. Love the film scores but there's more. Korngold can't touch this.

Wow! Two wrong notes in the first seconds already... should have practiced!
Nasro Subari Every note is exactly how it's written in the partiture. It is right. Greetings from a composer.
2 out of tunes and 40 minutes of genius.
