When I was a kid who didn't know the diff btwn the two, I didnt know why some violins sounded great, others sounded like shit. As an adult I was like OHHHHHH there's violin and then there's viola. I've always felt that way and 2setviolin just solidified the joke for me. It's great

This is far and away the best viola concerto I have heard so far. It's clear that Forsyth was a consummate orchestrator - the viola really shines, and is never overpowered or relegated to the background Compliments to the performers!
Cecil Forsyth literally "wrote the book" on orchestration haha! his textbook is still widely used today!

Well we violinists don’t hate/disrespect it, we just thinks it’s funny b/ it doesn’t stand out in the orchestra that much. Like no one cared if there’s a viola or not b/ no one can really hear it.

Musicality comes from the player, not the piece... but yes...
This piece was going to be my debut as a violin-turned-violist, but COVID cancelled the concert only two weeks before. This was back in march of 2020, and I haven't touched the piece since. I'm slowly falling back in love with it, and I'm determined to perform it some day. Hopefully it'll be at least half as incredible as this performer played it :)
1st off, I’m in love with this piece and the soloist. Second I’m at university for viola and I am extremely intimidated by the fact most of these performers are younger than me....
Bad news. That gets worse as you go.
I appreciate the richness of the viola. All instruments are beautiful in their own way. None would stand out if the other didn't exist.

Such a beautiful, full tone. The viola is like a more mature and sad version of a violin.

Violin is my instrument, and I'm embarrassed to say that I've not heard much of the viola repertoire. Great piece! (As for TwoSet, I don't know why they go on about violas. I love those guys, but they really need to give it a rest).
Beautiful and captivating Concerto from Forsythe, showing there is much more to him than his famous book on Orchestration. It really shows that Cecil was a Violist. Great orchestration, wonderful playing from Joanna Ławcewicz,

Viola vs Violin is kinda like Trumpet vs French Horn. Other is more popular and widespread, but the other is just more dramatic and glorious.
This moved me so much, i thank all of you for this, this tore me apart and made me feel something completely new, i could not hold the tears, great performance by Joanna, really, really magnificent, i needed this and didnt even knew it.

it should be quite obvious she isn't a professional. there are many intonation issues across the performance.

I'm almost 100% sure they added the "Twoset was wrong" part recently. Or maybe it was on a different channel? I definitely remember seeing this recording before with the regular title.

Twoset does bash the viola alot, but it is just a simple, long running joke. the viola is a beautiful instrument and you shouldn’t be ashamed to play it!
I like how they renamed the title or was that always the title?
I played the Viola in school days but it was always the red-headed stepchild in the orchestra. It got all the notes no one else wanted. Always loved the tone and still do, but it's very limited in the types of music it can do, so I ended up switching to violin. Many more genres available ( e.g. bluegrass, jazz, etc). Still, violas are great.
