  • In this video, I answer these two questions:
    1) "The combustion of 0.374 kg of methane in the presence of excess oxygen produces 0.983 kg of carbon dioxide. What is the percent yield?"
    2) "The combustion of 0.1240 kg of propane in the presence of excess oxygen produces 0.3110 kg of carbon dioxide. What is the theoretical yield?"

    This is a great resource and it's very helpful indeed. I just don't understand why the 0.374kgCH4 wasn't used (12:47) if it was one of the givens. The actual yield, as mentioned in the video, was .983kgCO2 and I am not sure how you knew .983kgCO2 was the actual yield instead of .374kgCH4 being the actual if it makes sense. Thanks for all that you do!

  • @ebenburger111
    @ebenburger111 3 роки тому

    If I understand this correctly, there's a very simple way to get an average extraction yield. Weigh the Original dried ingredient you'd like to extract. Infuse your dried substance and filter. Now dehydrate the remainder Fibrous content to get rid of most of the water - comparable to its original state, and Weigh it again. The difference in weight before and after the infusion of the dried matter will show you how much extracted content you now have mixed within your liquid. For example, if the dried coffee was 100g before extraction, and after filtration and dehydration is 60g, the total dissolved/extracted content is 40g.

    Hello Meliss! No one is class could figure this out, but thought maybe you could. We did a precipitate lab and we mixed magnesium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid and CO2 was formed. We don’t know why this reaction would happen.

    • @melissamaribel
      @melissamaribel  4 роки тому

      Were you guys testing for carbonate in your sample? If acid reacts with carbonate then CO2 is produced.
      I'm gonna need a little more info on your lab to know exactly what's going on. What was the purpose of the lab or procedure, what was the initial sample you used etc.
