- In this video, I answer these two questions:
1) "The combustion of 0.374 kg of methane in the presence of excess oxygen produces 0.983 kg of carbon dioxide. What is the percent yield?"
2) "The combustion of 0.1240 kg of propane in the presence of excess oxygen produces 0.3110 kg of carbon dioxide. What is the theoretical yield?"

💁♀️ HI I'M MELISSA MARIBEL
I help students pass Chemistry and Organic Chemistry. I used to struggle with this subject, so when I finally graduated with a bachelor's degree in Chemistry, I became a tutor so that you wouldn't have to struggle like I did. I know that with the right help, YOU CAN LEARN ANYTHING!

Hope this video helped! I've also made the perfect set of notes for finding percent yield, theoretical yield, limiting reactants, and more. Get them here melissa.help/limreactnotes
May u pls teach how to calculate percentage purity
i love you
It most definitely did. I've watched from many other tutor's I still couldn't get it 🥺 but with you I've found it really easy💖
I thought maybe pre med wasn't for me. Then after watching your videos I learned that I needed to just be taught in a different way. Thank you so much you're a godsend.
Exactly! If it doesn't make sense, it just means you need to learn it a different way. Keep going Jared 👍
This comment gives me hope. My chemistry teacher is doing a classroom experiment where she teaches us things after the HW and test, and the difficulty from it and the confusion even with UA-cam was making me wonder if I'm not cut out for my major. Hopefully I can have a turn around!
@@LiXiaoChunSpadeDuke-ish will how is it going now ?
How’s premed going for u?
you're my quarantine chemistry teacher
ugh thanks for saving our grades queen 💗😌✊
Anytime! 💕
I dont like chemistry but youve made it bearable. And I passed my chem class so thats awesome thank you so much
You're welcome! So happy you passed!
distanced learning has been really tough and my chem teacher is having a hard time adjusting. meanwhile, I as a student, am expected to be working at 100%. Your videos have helped me so so so much. Thank you from the bottom of my heart ♥️
Really wishing I found your videos earlier on in the semester haha and not the night before my final. You explain everything really well. Thank you!! 💕
this!!
thank u for being more helpful than my actual tutor love u the most sis
you honestly saved me. I’ve been looking for the right video to help find the percent yield of a reaction where part of the reaction uses an excess. this video was a perfect explanation on how to approach the work. thank you so much!
Thank you for making this channel, life CHANGING for someone who is an auditory learner and also needs step by step instruction. LOVE YOUR GRAPHS, I don't get bored listening to you.
You have no idea how much I rely on your videos! Literal blessing thank you so much.
Thank you so much! This was the one thing I struggled with and you helped me push through it. 💙
i've watched like 5 of your videos because i have my chem final tomorrow!! thank you soo much
Hope it went well!
This was the absolute best video EVER!!!! I love this layout and that you're using actual typed out problems instead of the paper clipping, which truly confuse this girl lol. LOVE THIS, PLEASE PLEASE KEEP EM COMING!! LOVE YOU!!!!
Thank you so much! You're videos helped me a lot ;;; I'm inspired to take up a chemistry course because of you!
Your videos are seriously the best, I am learning so much from you. I would not be passing Chemistry without these videos. Thank you SO much :) You put it in a way that makes these problems easy!
Yaaas girl pull through I need to know this!!!😭😭💕💕💕
I'm here for ya!
Thanks, this video is really helpful !
You are seriously saving me. Thank you so much!
i have my last chem test tomorrow...i had no idea what was happening before i binged your videos, thank you so much for being so clear and thorough! :)
bruhhh the way you wrote of those steps at the 7 minute mark is genius! I always struggled with conversions but that makes it so much easier.
So friggn helpful. THANK YOU
Thank you so so much! I was procrastinating my studying for science olympiad and I was having trouble for chemistry. Again, thank you!
You’re welcome 😊
I literally love you thank you for being an actual good teacher
literally thank you so much
THX! YOU ARE MY BEST CHEMISTRY TEACHER
Thank you for this I found it really helpful 💜
You're welcome! 💕
THANK YOU SO MUCH ☺️
Thanks for all the help!
You're welcome Brenda!
you saved me and my grade again! Thank you
YOUR VIDEOS ARE THE BEST OUT THERE THANK YOU SO MUCH
Thank you so much Giana!
God bless I was just trying to do these question 😭😭😭🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Thank you, so glad this video helped!
Thanks a lot my mark in chemistry increased to 86❤️❤️
Yay!! So happy to hear your doing so well!
my queen. i stan. thank you so much I love you
Thank you soo much teacher
You are saving my butt with chemistry
Thank you❤️
You are genius teacher I respect you a lot
do we multiply the coefficients with the subscript or add them
this was so helpful for me
Happy to hear 😊
Chemistry is so confusing, but after I've watched your video about chemistry, goshh it's not that hard as I think of, I just need to understand it. Thanks to youu.❤️
Great video tysm!
I have my finals exam an hour from now, thank you
Hope it went well!
thank you so ,much mam your method is amazing mam
What if the numbers are already grams do you leave it as is and just solve?
Currently doing my chem exam lol thank you so much! 10 hours into the exam I totally blanked on Theo yield 😂
i really could use so much help in this. please respond!!!
This is a great resource and it's very helpful indeed. I just don't understand why the 0.374kgCH4 wasn't used (12:47) if it was one of the givens. The actual yield, as mentioned in the video, was .983kgCO2 and I am not sure how you knew .983kgCO2 was the actual yield instead of .374kgCH4 being the actual if it makes sense. Thanks for all that you do!
This is so amazing. My college professor assigns your videos as homework and this is the first "tutor hotline" one I've seen. I love how aesthetic this video was! I also got to visit your website for the first time, and I want absolutely everything that is on there!!
thank you. just, thank you
nice, what software are you using for explanation? what device is it
nice explanation!
Excuse me but, when calculating theoretical yield, would you not coincided the second component “O2 and 2H2O” since it has a smaller value of 528.211? I’m a bit confused with this topic…please can you take the time to explain?
thank you
If 5.25 g SO2 reacts with excess of CaCO3 and O2, how many grams of CaSO4 are
formed?
U SAVED A CAREER
Good teacher you are
I love your videos, they are really helpful, can you go through some Aleks problems???
Thank you and I don't have access to Aleks problems so I don't know what is on there.
Ahh I wish all the chemistry teachers would have been like Melissa
How do I find the theoretical yield with limiting reagent. My question has the percent yield and I need to find out the actual? Idk if u will see this but I hope
If I understand this correctly, there's a very simple way to get an average extraction yield. Weigh the Original dried ingredient you'd like to extract. Infuse your dried substance and filter. Now dehydrate the remainder Fibrous content to get rid of most of the water - comparable to its original state, and Weigh it again. The difference in weight before and after the infusion of the dried matter will show you how much extracted content you now have mixed within your liquid. For example, if the dried coffee was 100g before extraction, and after filtration and dehydration is 60g, the total dissolved/extracted content is 40g.
Thanks again..chem finals Friday for me
You're welcome Ryan!
You are a lifesaver
u deserve more subscribe about 1M tbh love ur effort
Thank you so much! I really appreciate you noticing all the effort and time I put into my videos!
@@melissamaribel welcome
god tier youtuber
Why did u divide by the molar mass
you honestly are godsent. My professor is great, but i cant seem to understand him.
Wouldn't the theoretical value be 1026? How do we jump from 1025.5 to 1030? Don't we round up to the next number which would be 1026. Please explain.
You're the best!
How do you know what the actual yield is?
Is limiting reactant the same as theoretical yield?
nevermind lol thanks
bless you Melissa, you're a god send
WE STAN OUR CHEMISTRY QUEEN!!
1 hour before my eoc exam i hope this clutches up
Hello Meliss! No one is class could figure this out, but thought maybe you could. We did a precipitate lab and we mixed magnesium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid and CO2 was formed. We don’t know why this reaction would happen.
Were you guys testing for carbonate in your sample? If acid reacts with carbonate then CO2 is produced.
I'm gonna need a little more info on your lab to know exactly what's going on. What was the purpose of the lab or procedure, what was the initial sample you used etc.
Thank you for helping me with my final tomorrow
You're welcome! Good luck with your final tomorrow!
Why did you chose CO2 specially to the theoritical yield?💕
Please i need a heelp

I love lovelovee your channel . It is so perfect! :)
Thank you 😊
Brilliant
Hello miss how are you thanks for this video
Nice
Thank you so much
You just earned yourself a new subscribe
Also my marks increase to a 88%
Yay!!! So happy to hear your improving!
Is it possible that a question will end up with a % yield higher than 100? Idk how to fix it.
late to answer but just in case anyone sees this and is wondering the same thing, the answer is no that is not possible. The law of conservation of mass says matter cannot be created nor destroyed and that would be creating it :)
4:22 you could have used the formula CxHy + (x+y/4)O2 --------> xCO2 + (y/2)H2O
Wonna ask u to slove my question how can I send u should I email on UA-cam BTW I'm new here watching your this as my first video nd found helpful?
Very nice madam
Any tips of how to become an A+ student 🙏🙏
9:30
I love you girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
About to take my lab final in 3 hours and I'm not ready at all
Excellent job, but the girl's paper doesn't match the answer. The guessing teacher made a mistake on her paper. Thanks, Melissa, for all you do to help us Chem students!
im the 200th like
it’s so funny how people over contemplate things
It's sad that you teach us more than our teacher that we are paying thousands to teach us
His response to that was that he just likes the flipped classroom idea
