    Algebra I on Khan Academy: Algebra is the language through which we describe patterns. Think of it as a shorthand, of sorts. As opposed to having to do something over and over again, algebra gives you a simple way to express that repetitive process. It's also seen as a "gatekeeper" subject. Once you achieve an understanding of algebra, the higher-level math subjects become accessible to you. Without it, it's impossible to move forward. It's used by people with lots of different jobs, like carpentry, engineering, and fashion design. In these tutorials, we'll cover a lot of ground. Some of the topics include linear equations, linear inequalities, linear functions, systems of equations, factoring expressions, quadratic expressions, exponents, functions, and ratios.
    About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.

    You did a decent job explaining the concepts in simple terms, change in y over change in x (rise over run). But it would have made the lesson whole if you would have presented the equation in slope- intercept form for each line, plugged the numbers in from the each of the lines and solved the equation in slope- intercept for both lines (showing the difference of the two slopes). That way we can see how the numbers on the line are represented in the equation and the slope of each line. Thank you for uploading and showing the basics

    I know this is an old video to comment but I really want somebody to explain to me and answer as to how steepness as Sal puts in the video be defined as "how quickly a line increases or decreases"?? I do understand that slope is the magnitude of how much a line inclines or declines from the horizontal axis or the ratio of change in vertical axis witg respect to change in horizontal axis but the definition mentioned above as by Sal here confuses me. I fail to conceptualise and understand it..can't make sense mathematically. I'd really appreciate and be thankul if someone could /would offer some clarity and explain in mathematical context!:)

      @@amisha25211 simply it's this: if the line runs further horizontal, then it will have a less steep slope. A line with a steeper slope with run further vertical. :)
      More horizontal rise equals less slope, and more vertical rise equals more slope. That is how quickly a line decreases or increases - when it increases further, a larger slope upward is indicated. When it decreases quickly, that's indicating a slower and small slope range. :)
      Hope that isn't too confusing. May not see this but felt compelled to give it a shot for anyone else who may come across this. :) Been out of high school a couple years but I still recall that much :3

    Hey, im confused. Slope is delta y over delta x, but to find delta y and x, what order do i subtract it? Like if the points are (-1,2) (-4, -5), what order do i subtract in? Would I do -5 - 2 or 2 - -5. The slope would be different based on which order i do. Please explain the order I should do it in.

      @RvVx7 6 місяців тому

      It has something to do with height or depth or angles? 😢

    • @RvVx7
      @RvVx7 6 місяців тому

      Just like velocity and acceleration.
      As acceleration or deceleration is constant change in velocity,(i assume it to be constant, when it might not be constant in all cases)
      Similarly slope is constant increase or decrease in height or depth when you're moving in the vertical direction or mapping something that has height of depth related to the point where you're standing.
      Well even i don't really know what slope is 😂
      But as far as I understand for example if I'm standing outside a 3 story building at a distance 50 m and the height of the building is 20m, now i have been given a job of connecting a cable from top of the roof to the ground point where I'm standing.
      Now calculate the length of the cable or rope which will be connected from roof to that ground point you're standing at and calculate the slope?
      A²+b²= c² , 2500+400 = 2900 c=√2900 = 53.85 something metres long cable.
      The slope is how much metre it is elevated per 1 metre (unit metre) of the horizontal distance. So slope= total height(or depth) of the vertical object divided by the total distance(on the horizontal plane) you're standing from that object = 20m /50m = 0.8 m
      Slope is always more than 0 if you're not standing on the object or are parallel to the top point of the object or you are inside that object, in these cases the slope will be zero 0,
      Like if you're standing on the roof of that building the slope at that point is zero, or if you're standing inside the building the slope again is zero.
      Slope is nothing but a ratio of vertical distance vs horizontal distance between any two points in a (x,y) plane where x is horizontal axis and y is vertical axis.slope is steepness
      This is all i understood about slope , i don't know if it's right or wrong, 😶‍🌫️😶‍🌫️
