Algebra I on Khan Academy: Algebra is the language through which we describe patterns. Think of it as a shorthand, of sorts. As opposed to having to do something over and over again, algebra gives you a simple way to express that repetitive process. It's also seen as a "gatekeeper" subject. Once you achieve an understanding of algebra, the higher-level math subjects become accessible to you. Without it, it's impossible to move forward. It's used by people with lots of different jobs, like carpentry, engineering, and fashion design. In these tutorials, we'll cover a lot of ground. Some of the topics include linear equations, linear inequalities, linear functions, systems of equations, factoring expressions, quadratic expressions, exponents, functions, and ratios.
About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.
For free. For everyone. Forever. #YouCanLearnAnything

    I learned a way to identify both intercepts by inspection. Consider your line: 9x + 16y = 72. Divide both sides by 72, then (9/72)x + (16/72)y = 1. Rewriting (1/8)x + (2/9)y = 1. In this form the respective intercepts are the reciprocals of the coefficients of each term; i.e. x-int = 8, and y-int = 9/2. ◼

When he speaks about getting the slope what I do is I know that A is the numerator on the slope, and B is the denominator. Then u have to know if the slope is positive or negative. If the equation is written with a plus sign in the middle, the slope is negative, I.e Ax + By. If the equation is written with a negative sign in the middle, I.e, Ax - By, you know it is positive. My maths teacher defaults to Ax - By = A(x coordinate) - B(y coordinate), I think I got that last part right ❤

Sorry for the late reply, but same! My teacher tells us that if he moves to fast to just tell him to slow down. A girl once asked him to and he freaked out and claimed we don't pay attention, when in reality he goes through the lesson at lightning speed and while we are still in question one he's already assigning homework. I end up asking for help and he'll shame me by saying I should have asked during the lesson. It's SO frustrating 😖

Slight correction: "is the same thing as Ax+By-C=0". When you subtract C from right side, you subtract it from left side also. Therefore, it's negative C. If original C is negative, it changes to positive on left side.

Max Safari the “random zeros” are what we assume the X or Y value, when we are trying to find the intercept. Let’s say, we are trying to find Y. Then X is 0. The equation, let’s say, is Y=2x+2. The, constant is +2, so our Y intercept is 2, and our X is 0. (0,2) The point that the line meets the Y value is 0,2
