The whole thing about "average players being the best teachers" is true even in the show. Most, if not all of the characters that end up training Karasuno, Ukai included, are stated to have been bad players in high school, not even in the starting line up, and yet it's thanks to them that the Karasuno players can grow as much as they do.
Nishinoya's reasoning for going to Karasuno is actually pretty realistic. High school boys pay attention more on how cool the uniforms are rather than the school's reputation.

Nishinoya is the type of character that is very up front and direct. In all the seasons i cant think of a time he said something sarcastically or tongue in cheek. He says what he thinks and hes very honest up front in everything he says and shows it to anyone
Sarah, I actually see why Noya called himself selfish. Noya knows that he is the strongest link in Karasuno's defensive chain: without him, the team will surely lose to any team with a strong enough offense to get past Karasuno's sloppy blocking. On top of that, this is Asahi's last year in high school. Even if Noya got his way and Asahi returned, all of the playing time the team would give to Asahi as the ace would mean that the other first years and second years would miss out on a lot of opportunities to get court experience. That lack of experience could seriously hurt the teams chances in future years when the current squad of seniors (Daichi, Suga, and Asashi) has to move on.
Fun fact: Nishinoya's full name (Nishinoya Yuu) means 'Western Valley Sunset/Evening' and Asahi's full name (Azumane Asahi) means 'Eastern Peak Morning Sun/Dawn'. It reflects their opposite personalities, their heights/statures, and their positions. One is a loud and brash short libero; the other is a Gentle Giant left-wing spiker. Also, their birthdays are 10/10 and 01/01. (The other pair who is a foil to each other are Kageyama and Hinata. Kageyama means 'shadow mountain' and Hinata means 'sunny place'. Kags is born on December 22 (longest night of the year) and Hinata June 21 (longest day of the year). Again, reflecting their sunny/enthusiastic personality vs colder/socially awkward demeanor. But the funny part is their first names are similar in meaning; Shouyou means "flying sun" and Tobio means "flying hero" and when characters in their names are put together it means "soaring" A reference to how they bring "flying" to the crows (Karasuno).)
I think the best part of Haikyuu is that when you're not watching a match, you're still so heavily invested in watching these kids get better. The "slice of life" parts still feature such relatable situations and feelings for anyone who's even casually played a sport that there really is something for everyone. As a side note the next episode will prolly cut deep for sure. LONG LIVE THE TEARS
I personally find Asahi to be more handsome than Oikawa; he's more my type (big, tall, like a giant teddy bear). Asahi is my favorite Haikyuu! character as he and I have very similar personalities (we both feel extremely responsible and stew a lot in our weaker moments). I think the "hipster handsome" moniker is funny. The dynamic between Asahi and Nishinoya is incredibly beautiful; when we find our Nishinoya, it's such a powerful feeling. I've probably watched this episode 20 or more times, and I always cry. Also, thank you for recognizing Takeda-sensei's cunning; he's quite clever. :)
Actually, MOST Japanese pronounce it as "shity" because there's no independent "c" sound in Japanese (closest would be 「し(shi)」). To the Japanese, that joke is about Tanaka sounding like a total country bumpkin by calling the guys from Tokyo "city boys" in English (& many Japanese, especially children, wouldn't really know the "s" word to begin with.). But I think the translators did excellent work here by transforming the joke for the English speaking audience, since explaining the original joke would be difficult in the allotted time span.
There's no shame in crying when you're watching haikyuu. The original author of the comic was a volleyball player and it shows because as a volleyball player it makes you feel THINGS. I've cried watching haikyuu several times. Also yeah! You're 100% right about liberos attacking below the net, Erik Shoji scored a point like that not that long ago I think!
8:52 fun fact, this was the moment when I fell in love with Nobuhiko Okamoto (Nishinoya’s voice actor) because he transmits sooo much just with his voice, he’s not shouting , he’s not crying , he’s just speaking and yet it is sooo meaningful I thought it was brilliant 2 years later he’s still my favorite seiyuu And Nishinoya my favorite character not only from Haikyuu but in life 🧡🏐✨
24:47 the subtitles changed a bit with netflix but what Suga said there was that "asahi has probably fallen out of love with volleyball" 28:57 Tsuki was laughing at tanaka's pronunciation of "city boys", with his Japanese accent he said "shitty boys" instead of "City boys"
8:02 Hang on that story thread around the broken mop from Ep 7. As you've guessed, it carries more weight than just losing a mop and the answer is coming as to why. It's always so interesting to see how elite level volleyball players react to this show since I can only enjoy it from the perspective of a non-player (from any level). The character I empathize with most is Takeda-san. 😅
Another great reaction! Can’t wait for what you’re gonna say about the future episodes! Side note: In Japanese culture, when someone sneezes it means they’re being talked about hence the random sneeze clip from grandson Ukai when Takeda was talking about him 😊
Nishinoya does not just keep the ball up... he keeps his teams spirits up as well... he really is an awesome character. Oh yes, and Hinatas Kags impression is just iconic. Hinata though is probably one of te most inspiring characters i have ever encountered in a story ever. He is just irrepressible and he carries everyone forward with himself. Haikyu is just an amazing show, it made me learn about, appreciate and start to love volleyball, and beyond that, it just made me want to get up, and go and do SOMETHING.
Me when I see a new Haikyuu reaction video from Sarah: *happy & excited* Me when I finish the video and realize I have to wait a whole week until the next one: *sad crying noises*
its really cool how you connect a little bit with each character because of your own experiences, just like they surpass their differences because they all have volleyball in common
..you literally post this when I was about to go to sleep :D Sadly I really have to because it's almost 4AM here and birds are noisy again. But I'll be back as soon as I wake up :D ^^ And I really was curious about your reaction to ROOORINGUUU THUNDAAAAA! 😂😅❤️
@@SarahPavanVolleyball Okay, so.. I'm back :D well.. yes, you are really tall for me.. I'm 5'3 😅😅 (so.. something between Hinata and Nishinoya and people won't shut up about it either.. you just can't win, you know 😅 ) Also you have no idea how great Noya's relationship with Tanaka is.. you will see. They are literally sharing one braincell 😂❤️ Oh? Um.. yeah.. Hinata and Kageyama are together all the time now.. I think it's kind of sweet ^^ you will get more moments like this between them, trust me :) (like.. Hinata trying ti piss Kageyama off and stuff 😂😂😂❤️) Here it is! Roolling thunder! xD the name is kinda funny but Noya's moves in the game are really impressive. He knows what he's doing. And NEVER apologize for pausing the episode. Really. We came here for your thoughts, not for the anime itself. We can watch it by ourselves but for example I watch your videos because I'm curious about the volleyball player's opinion even though my knowlege about it all comes from THIS anime 😂😅😅 (our PE teacher didn't play the real volleyball with us, so those positions, jump serves, libero.. everything was new for me when I started watching it) so.. feel free with your reactions :) that's what reacting videos are here for :)) .. oh.. you really said: "I never thought the day would come where Kageyama will say that" oh.. girl... sometimes even Kageyama doesn't believe that
thanks for another reaction, I'm super excited for the next episode!! I love the character arcs for Noya & Asahi so much (and I cried a lot too, I still do sometimes lmao). fun fact about that duo, their names were designed to be opposites because of their personalities. Nishinoya Yuu = west valley, evening; Azumane Asahi = east peak, morning sun. even their birthdays are reversed (10/10 for Noya, 01/01 for Asahi). Furudate (the author) seems to like inserting that sort of subtle story telling, there are a handful of other name pairs that are meant to describe character relationships as well. also, a little bit about Nekoma's name: phonetically, "neko" means cat (hence the cat imagery). but the kanji used in the school's name don't include the one for cat. Ne = sound, Koma = shogi/chess piece (altogether, "sound of [moving/placing] a shogi piece").
@@omarrosamilia yeah I agree! I feel like that was probably intentional on Furudate's part, since it's the only main school with this sort of discrepancy between the kanji & the imagery they use to rep the team
I did not know about the shogi/chess piece imagery, but that is so fitting of Nekoma's play style and strategy. Edit: Furudate-sensei's wordplay/wordsmithing is top-notch.

My favorite thing about Asahi is that he like... he was completely stuffed. He barely if at all scored in that game. And he took all of that on him- a mix of his anxieties and sense of personal responsibility. Like “its all my fault why won’t you give up on me?” Without realizing his team all believe in him even after a bad game. I just. Asahi Azumane is great and I adore him
If you almost cried this episode than think about the later back stories! Anyways, as always I loved your reaction. Nishinoya is such a great character and I can't wait to see more
Even Erik Shoji, USA National Libero said that Noya receive is really good and beautiful. And Coach Donny said that Noya just like Shoji in terms of making receive looks "boring" because how efficient their movement..
The smug look kageyama had on his face when hinata said he can go past any blocker thanks to him is what im here for! He was really like " jep tell them, you cant do it without me, thats right" 😂😂
The part that kills me is pretty much all the questions you ask about are in the show later and the only answer we can really give you is keep watching. Pausing in this episode is normally pretty high for reactors as you can probably tell because of all the information dropped in this episode. I find it amazing how they keep your interest and pull you in deeper when the entire episode was just them talking and giving exposition on the state of the team and it's members. It's very hard for shows to pull that off without making the episode seem dull.
I just want to add that your reactions to Haikyuu are by far the best. You are very perceptive, and you pay really close attention to the developments in the story. It makes reliving the experience through you the most anticipated event in my week. Edit: I also wanted to add that you should never apologize for sharing your thoughts. Haikyuu does a really good job connecting volleyball with the humanity in all of us. There are always someone we can relate to, someone to admire, someone to place hope on, etc. We viewers love the characters and through them we come to love the game. I've found myself watching clips of indoor volleyball and enjoying the experience a great deal. I'm now really looking forward to the next Olympics to see the Japan team as well as Sarah on the court. There's nothing that makes me more happy about these videos than you enjoying your time with Haikyuu, Sarah. Thank you for your time and hard work!

"This Haikyuu!! business is taking me to places I never thought it would." I felt that. I never thought a sports anime would take me on an emotional roller coaster. It's wonderful. It made my interest in volleyball deepen and I enjoyed watching matches a whole lot more including yours back in 2019 when you won the gold. Thank you for this video. Looking forward to more. 😁
Wow, thank you so much for uploading another video so soon! It makes us really happy that you follow the story and character developments so closely, and that you try to connect the dots from clues you found in the previous episodes. Also, I don't think I've seen any other reactor learn the characters' names as quickly as you do. It's seriously amazing. You always sound so spontaneous and yet still articulate at the same time. I mean...can you try to be less perfect? Haha Btw, I agree with your assessments re: Asahi v. Oikawa. And I think you'll love Asahi and Nishinoya's dynamic. If I had to pick the best characters for beach, it would definitely be those two.

Also, thank you for recognizing Takeda-sensei's cunning; he's quite clever. :)
Asahi is sooo underrated. He is one of the best and most interesting characters in the show.
@@irem8513 agree, he's grounded and very relatable in many aspects, at least for me
28:54 There's a joke, Tanaka says "City Boys" but in Japanese it sounds like "Shitty Boys", that's why Tsukishima is laughing at his pronunciation.
Yeah, here it is! It was long ago though hahaha

I can't believe I need to wait another week for the next one! I'm not gonna make it guys! I LOVE THESE REACTIONS TOO MUCH!
Dang these are only released once a week?! 😫😩😢 I cant ever have enough of these
8:52 fun fact, this was the moment when I fell in love with Nobuhiko Okamoto (Nishinoya’s voice actor) because he transmits sooo much just with his voice, he’s not shouting , he’s not crying , he’s just speaking and yet it is sooo meaningful I thought it was brilliant
2 years later he’s still my favorite seiyuu
And Nishinoya my favorite character not only from Haikyuu but in life 🧡🏐✨
Nobuhiko-san is truly amazing! His dedication to the job is astounding. Hope he will stay healthy from now on 🙏
"have compassion for yourself"
"the only path is forward"
-Sarah Pavan 2021
4 seasons in and it's still one of my favorite episodes.
8+9 is my favourite pair of episodes, no competition like how Shiratorizawa beat Ohgiminami 25-6.
Yessss as a Noya Stan this is the ep I’ve watched the most without a doubt
The fashion show that the editor created on 5:45 is absolutely amazing 😂
I love these reaction videos! They’re always so fun to watch!
Thank you!!
@@SarahPavanVolleyball
"Liberos can set if they are behind the attack line." you know what I mean.
Oh I do 😗✨✌️
24:47 the subtitles changed a bit with netflix but what Suga said there was that "asahi has probably fallen out of love with volleyball"
28:57 Tsuki was laughing at tanaka's pronunciation of "city boys", with his Japanese accent he said "shitty boys" instead of "City boys"
Takeda's "I'm inexpirienced and pathetically inadequate" speaks to my core 😁😅
I'm 5 mins in and I'm already in love with this video!
Me when I see a new Haikyuu reaction video from Sarah: *happy & excited*
Me when I finish the video and realize I have to wait a whole week until the next one: *sad crying noises*
I love seeing how much takeda sensei loves and trusts the boys and their talents 🥺
its really cool how you connect a little bit with each character because of your own experiences, just like they surpass their differences because they all have volleyball in common
Thank you for remembering the mop. *Nobody* remembers the mop. S'all I'ma say.
..you literally post this when I was about to go to sleep :D Sadly I really have to because it's almost 4AM here and birds are noisy again.
But I'll be back as soon as I wake up :D ^^
And I really was curious about your reaction to ROOORINGUUU THUNDAAAAA! 😂😅❤️
Can't wait to read your comments when you've had a chance to watch. Night night 🌙
@@SarahPavanVolleyball yeah, I'm gonna leave you something here for sure :)
@@SarahPavanVolleyball Okay, so.. I'm back :D
well.. yes, you are really tall for me.. I'm 5'3 😅😅 (so.. something between Hinata and Nishinoya and people won't shut up about it either.. you just can't win, you know 😅 )
Also you have no idea how great Noya's relationship with Tanaka is.. you will see. They are literally sharing one braincell 😂❤️
Oh? Um.. yeah.. Hinata and Kageyama are together all the time now.. I think it's kind of sweet ^^ you will get more moments like this between them, trust me :) (like.. Hinata trying ti piss Kageyama off and stuff 😂😂😂❤️)
Here it is! Roolling thunder! xD
the name is kinda funny but Noya's moves in the game are really impressive. He knows what he's doing.
And NEVER apologize for pausing the episode. Really. We came here for your thoughts, not for the anime itself. We can watch it by ourselves but for example I watch your videos because I'm curious about the volleyball player's opinion even though my knowlege about it all comes from THIS anime 😂😅😅 (our PE teacher didn't play the real volleyball with us, so those positions, jump serves, libero.. everything was new for me when I started watching it)
so.. feel free with your reactions :) that's what reacting videos are here for :))
.. oh.. you really said: "I never thought the day would come where Kageyama will say that"
oh.. girl... sometimes even Kageyama doesn't believe that
thanks for another reaction, I'm super excited for the next episode!!
I'd say the shogi/chess imagery also fits pretty well with Nekoma
@@omarrosamilia yeah I agree! I feel like that was probably intentional on Furudate's part, since it's the only main school with this sort of discrepancy between the kanji & the imagery they use to rep the team
I did not know about the shogi/chess piece imagery, but that is so fitting of Nekoma's play style and strategy.
Edit: Furudate-sensei's wordplay/wordsmithing is top-notch.
I also have read about Hinata & Tsukishima name ❤️
24:16 wait until you meet the "pretty setter" everyone talks about in the haikyuu fandom 💆♀️✨
But we already know Suga :P
@@elisabethn2893 tbh all of the setters are all pretty💆♀️✨pretty setter squad 😩🤚we can all agree that THAT one is the prettiest 💁♀️ (no spoilers but u know what i'm talking about)
pretty setter squad is really unfair 😁
@@resstie how?🕴
My favorite thing about Asahi is that he like... he was completely stuffed.
He was really like " jep tell them, you cant do it without me, thats right" 😂😂
Can't wait for next reaction.
Hinata: 31:47 I hate it that we're so awkward.
Kageyama: _awkwardly scowls in silence_ 😂
30:22 Hold on... I like this little image.... (it also made me laugh for a hot second... 😂)
I just want to add that your reactions to Haikyuu are by far the best. You are very perceptive, and you pay really close attention to the developments in the story. It makes reliving the experience through you the most anticipated event in my week.
Edit: I also wanted to add that you should never apologize for sharing your thoughts. It really adds to the whole experience.
You don't have to apologize for pausing you are giving ur perspective as a pro volleyball player and we love it thats why we watch your videos
Your face on the Ukai reveal is 👌
I'm loving every time you pause 🤣🤣 sharing haikyu with someone as engaged as you is a dream come true.
16:44 i play ping pong so a lot of jerseys and shoes are japanese brands and i find it really cool that i can recognize a lot of logos on jerseys and other things
I'm loving this reactions! I recently got a friend to watch the show and she LOVED IT, I'm happy you're enjoying it too.
Btw: Asahi is WAY more atractive than Oikawa in my opinion
Lot of love from Spain!
clicked on the video the moment i saw it ⚡ ⚡
8:42 i find that haikyuu can get kinda poetic with its descriptions, but like, it's surprisingly non-cheesy for the most part
It's so comforting to actually see someone so passionate for this show. I hope you will like the rest of it just as much as we all are, too!
I like how you pointed the libero setting stuff out, which will beome part of the story later on xD
Love seeing people falling in love with Nishinoya. He's just a good boy. Nishinoya and Asahi best boys!
I think Sarah will cry very soon. 😁 Rocking that Thrilla in Manila Shirt.
8 episodes in and she already have a favorite episode. Without any playing action. I think she'll have plenty of favorite episodes. 😂
We love the pauses and commentary. That's the whole purpose of a reaction:)
This episode and the next really solidified my love for the show. It really touches on everyone's struggles and it does so with so much heart...I cry every time.
im binging these reactions while im at home recovering from my covid booster and its giving me liiiiiiiife
Haha
Btw, I agree with your assessments re: Asahi v. Oikawa. And I think you'll love Asahi and Nishinoya's dynamic. If I had to pick the best characters for beach, it would definitely be those two.
Just here to remind everyone NOT to rush her. She has another life than just reacting. We're already lucky she's even reacting to Haikyuu at all. Let us all just be grateful and stop all the demands. Please. Thanks! 😊
Today I had a terrible day at gym, practicing volleyball. I almost hold back my tears for 10 minutes straight doing a drill and even git yelled by our coach. Came back home, watched this reaction video and felt a little lighter like, the weight on my shoulders from "being a not good enough teammate " just dropped and I recovered from that. Thank you for these videos. I feel much better.
Also personally I am so much like asahi. I feel responsible for each mistake maden and it makes me sometimes too sensitive and kind of...blocked (?) I can say. On the other hand his character inspires me so much and makes me want to move forward.
I even had my Jersey number 3 to always remind myself all the things asahi went through but still he rose.
Now that's a wonderful way to start my Saturday! Thank you very much for the upload!
The editor is just so good.
pause anytime. we dont mind. that makes u unique. the way you explain things and sharing your thought. we already watch the ep. and we just want to hear the thought of a high class volleyball player. :)
Asahi is so damn handsome that every freaking time he appears on the scream my mind is just "whatta man"
the thing i love about haikyu the most is that they always explain whats going on
with technics and backstories etc
This is HQ power xD
Please don't apologize for pauses and questions - that is why I love your reactions. It's feels like wathing HQ with somebody who loves it as much as you. And it's great.
Thanks for video! :3
The appearance of Sarah's love house made me crack up so bad lmao! I just want to say how I love and greatly appreciate the edits that you make. They complete my day whenever you reaction's out. Looking forward to next week!
My eyes always brightens up when you upload your reactions!
I love the “Sara’s Love House” ! 💕💕💕💕💕
Her getting everything without any confusions/misinterpretations has blessed me with yet another relaxing, fun watch. Her bubbling reactions kept me grinning the whole time, & I could feel her tears welling up. I tear up for Azumane every time at the end of this ep, too. SPOILER:
Personally, I tear up here much more than the "Sugaaa!" moment in ep 8. That moment & the subsequent scenes gets me exhilarated & feeling more like "Yes, show 'em you're the ace!" rather than teary, whereas here, I can feel the pain.
All those back stories are what made this series so beautiful to all of us here. You will cry more haha. It is a beautiful experience. What a great reaction video. We can tell you really fell in love now haha.
Btw, nice ring!
Yes!!!! I've been waiting for this episode and the next couple! Nishinoya is such a solid, caring person. He, Tanaka, and Tsukishima are my favorite characters and I get so excited when I know you're about to react to an episode that focuses on any of them. Can't wait for next ep!!!!
Also, all your little edits and funny cartoons crack me up lol. When "Sarah's Love House" came up, I snorted.
If you’re tearing up this episode wait for the next one! It’s my favourite episode to watch people react to!
I just have to say that the picture of Asahi with the Ancient Greek robe attire thing is incredible
😂 😂
"I almost cried"
Well get ready then because I pretty much cried at least once during episodes 8, 9 and 10 and I still do whenever I rewatch these episodes. The writing in these three episodes in particular is so beautiful.
I love your reactions to Haikyu! Thank you for sharing them. I hope you end up watching all 4 seasons!!
Noya is my favorite because he’s chill and always enjoys his life so much. He’s who I wanna be!
Omg I lost my shit when I saw "Sarah's Love House"
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Watching at 4 am. The show and reactions keep getting better and better. I love it when you pause a lot to talk, always looking forward to it. Nishinoya is so awesome!
ROLLING THUNDERRRRRRR!!!!!
Haikyuu is overall a very wholesome show. These first episodes where the setting is established are full of all kinds of lessons. And it’s like this from now on too.
I am so glad you’re enjoying it! Cannot wait for you to get to the matches and comment on the plays.
Your editing is also very fun and it made me crack up so many times 😂😂
Such a great episode
Please do not worry
Since we have watched these over and over again, we just come here for the talk and the reaction
Thank youuuu
To quote Nishinoya even though this counts as spoilers a little: 'Even if I was 2 meters tall, I'd still be a libero'
Noya was my first favorite character in Haikyuu! :D I'm glad you like him too, he's great. The character writing in this show is so good
I come for the paused section. I'm not a volleyball player; I came from a rural area and the only volleyball was girls' teams. So I'm all in for the insight and perspectives of those who have this deeper connection with volleyball.
