The Canon M50 is actually not a micro four-thirds! It has a regular crop sensor, the same size (and 24mp resolution) as in the D80. It just has a smaller lens mount than EF. But you can also get adapters to use EF lenses with the M-series.
I never comment on youtube as the age we lives in there are too many noises. But I think anyone as authentic as this and shares their experience generously deserves a shout out! I am inspired with a big smile here. Thank you so much! 💖💖💖
I just wanted to say you are so selfless, sharing all of your UA-cam channel secretes (including the video of how you make money on YT) thank you for sharing. 💖
The lighting on your videos is perfect IMO. I like not seeing a ring light in your eyes. Not that there is anything wrong with seeing a ring light. I like that I can see your features. Your videos have depth of face, the edges of your face are not washed out and I feel like I'm seeing true. Because of your lighting, you have some of the best swatches out there. Also you are always in focus and I don't notice the camera auto focusing. Your videos are so clear they are a pleasure to watch. Thank you very much for showing and explaining your setup. Now I know why your videos always look so pleasing to the eye! I wish I had the balls to make videos. LOL I'm in the age group what isn't heavily represented but I have a bad case of "George McFly" syndrome LOL. This was great!
🤣 george mcfly - Brenda, you're way too cool for george mcfly! And thank you always for your kind words and thoughtful comment. Always look forward to them. xoxo ❤️
Your vlog setup is basically my new setup! Loving the camera and mic so far! Got a few neewer led lights for lighting. This video is amazing so glad you put it up! The change in video quality from new lighting and camera alone is astounding. The m50 camera and neewer lights are an amazing option for us beginners on a budget ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you Michele!! I really appreciate the great detail, and the "why" as well. Makes it alot simpler to know where to start. You are so good at organizing and explaining information. I feel so much better. Thanks again!!!! 😀💝
The Best in-depth video from a non-tech channel. Thank you for this video Michelle. I really appreciate it. I will be getting the lights you have in your description to upgrade my lighting quality as well. I cannot tell you how helpful this video is for me. Have a fabulous day.
GREAT VÍDEO! YOUR INFORMATION IS GREAT! I HAVE PASSED BY ALL THE THINGS YOU SAID AND SADLY I LEARNED BY MYSELF. THIS IS EXTREMELY HELPFUL FOR ANYONE! ❤❤
This was a really useful video for me! I envisioned you with a sound mixer and that you spend a bunch of time color grading, so it’s great to know that you keep it pretty simple. I noticed that you have a monitor within eyeshot. Do you use it as a teleprompter (especially when giving product details)? Do you have a mirror in front of you or do you use the larger monitor to see what’s going on your face? I’m always so impressed by how you never forget a step! I have been practicing in front of a mirror and I usually forget my brows or mascara. You are such a professional!
So few people go into this kind of detail! I had no idea, for instance, what STM meant. And F-stop and aperture have always confused me (still do, but this is helping me understand a bit better). No doubt, I'll be re-watching this.
I loved every second of this. Thanks for doing such a deep-dive for us nosey people. I’m always looking to improve my quality, so thanks for taking the time to explain it so thoroughly! ♥️
I hear you on the frustration with the camera stopping while recording. Though I usually forget to turn the mic on, or think I hit the record button, but it's not recording...
Quick question. With your mic , and using imovie. Do you have to adjust the volume on your clips when you import them to imovie? My voice is so loud I feel like I have too. But I know you said you don't mess with any of that stuff, but just making sure. Meaning, you keep it at 100% volume? Oh, and I AM ORDERING THAT LIGHT🙌🙌🙌 Using your link. I need that light sooooo much . 💋
hi michele! thanks for sharing your setup. i’ve got a canon 5dmarkIII. i tried using it for videoing and couldn’t get it to work because of the auto focus. i’m glad you shared that you’re using the c100. i’m going to have to look into that if my viewership ever gets to a point where i can spend more money on my setup. i really appreciate you sharing what you’ve got and your recommendations for a beginner. as always, appreciate all of your hard work!
Great video Michele! Of course, I will need to watch it again, since I don't really understand everything you were talking about on how to make a video. But, I feel like you provided some very important details. I am a lover of 'toys' so I purchased a Canon EOS DSLR camera a couple of years ago and not with the intention of doing youtube, so I have to look at it and see if it's one that would be useful. I think the quality of your videos is great and I wouldn't change anything with the lighting. I was also wondering about the heat of the lights - I couldn't handle hot lights so it's good to know about the LED. Thanks for all the effort you put into this video! Take care, Ginny 😘😘😘
I use the M50! I’ve been doing UA-cam for about a year now and that’s been the only camera I’ve used. It’s awesome! I bought an AC adapter from Amazon for it and that’s all I’ve ever needed. I’ve been looking to upgrade my lighting, and those LED lights are something that’s in my budget. The soft boxes do get very hot. Thank you for making this video! I’m going to share it on my IG too! ❤️
This is so Good, Michele! I learned so much. Your video on this topic is the one I've been waiting for because I love the look and sound of your work. It is the best in its class. I will be watching this multiple times. Where do you get that white polyester fabric?💚
Michele, I've watched your videos for so long and I love the details that you've gone into. As a photo enthusiast (I shoot with a Canon 6D), I loved the way you talked about the transition you made from photo to video.
This video is SO INTERESTING, Michele! Thank you for all the information provided. One topic I'm interested in: How and where do you save your immense amount of data?
Thanks for this video Michele, learned some new pointers. I second the EOS M50, I have that one with the kit lens and a cheap mic and it works beautifully when you want to do youtube as a hobby and growing to getting monetized. When the channel makes some money I think it is good to put aside some of that money to invest in better equipment. I have e neewer ringlight and two softboxes to. They also work fine. I totally agree with your advice!
Wow, you are so thorough, and easy to listen to. Thank you for posting this. You vicariously answered a number of my novice questions, in addition to ones regarding cameras. Did you know you were featured on google front page?
This video was SO helpful, thank you so much! I currently have a Nikon DSLR with the standard lens that it came with and I've been wanting a new lens for awhile but I had no idea what to get and now I know exactly what to pick up!
CANON now has an PC/MAC/PHONE app that lets you focus - connect your camera to the computer, let the computer record the video and let the app focus for you. I haven't tested it that much (I have an EOS M50 but use a Sony for recording and live streaming). You may want to connect the CANON with a HDMI adaptor (Elgato) or a Blackmagic ATEM mini (brings in mics and cameras x 4) but they are probably overkill :P Thank you for this video. I love behind the scenes peek at tech that Creators are using. xxxx
I love the details that you provided & I’ve been tossing around the idea of doing beauty videos. Thank you so much pretty lady and you are appreciated.
Fantastic. Quick question. What about the camera in combination with the lighting? My Canon searches for that “neutral gray” and when I get bright, the camera actually goes darker!!! I’ve heard I need to overexpose?
This is such a helpful, information-packed, approachable video. I feel like I've been to the most stylish and friendly masterclass on starting out in UA-cam - thank you so much for this! Really, really interesting.
Thank you Michele! I started filming with my phone 📱 when I started my channel. I use the Cannon G7X due to limited space. I unfortunately depend on natural light again due to space issues I have one ring light, but I’m going to trying using the cloth you mention. What cover do you have on your ring light? I think your videos are perfection and I love you “natural looking” light
❤️You know how much I appreciate this video ☺️! I would love to invest in the camera and the light 🙌🏼 I’m working on setting up a dedicated space. It’s such a hassle moving equipment to set up every time I film & also leads to inconsistencies 🤦🏻♀️. As always your information is in-depth & precise. 😂 Yes - white balance 🙋🏻♀️ I have wasted countless hours on this & refilmed because of white balance issues 😩 I think the investment in high quality equipment would be way more efficient. That camera for vlogging makes so much more sense than the G7x I use because of the external mic capability 🌟 Thank you for the valuable info 😘
This was very helpful-sometimes I have issues with looking washed out-I have your old setup with a ringlight and 2 softboxes-it's so much equipment, but it's cheaper than the Kino Flo. Maybe I'll try a diffuser on the ringlight- thanks 😊 great video 👏
Very cool that you were also into photography!! I absolutely love love it and am currently working to get my own photography business up and going. Sucks that literally a week after getting my website live, covid happened 🤨 but that’s ok, I will get there ☺️ *yes, I completely agree, lighting in both videography and photography makes a world of difference!!
So helpful. I wanted the lightening and microphone. Ok. Time to buy. Ha ha I always Wanted to do a channel all my life. (Wanted to be a reporter too ) and thst didn’t happen ha. Edit me (always) love your makeup today and all that talk about shutter speed and this and that WHAT??? Ha
Also, I just bought the M50 like you mentioned and I LOVE IT. It's a great camera. Of course i want to upgrade to what you have, but for now, the Canon M50 is amazing and bought it on Amazon for like $500-600. Great camera with all the options you need❤🙌
Hi Michelle . I am an esthetician and what I am looking for is lighting , set up and filming for the process of my work ( face of the model while laying horizontal , facials , peels , etc). Don’t have the space or dedicated area for the light you’ve mentioned here , anything else you could suggest ( tried the Glamcor 2 arm light , the Cosmoglo light for esties that goes right on top of the client ). Thank you
Lol Ive been having so many issues with the microphone placement since I got one and my mirror always blocking it... I just used a stoe string and I tied it to the top of my ring light earlier today 😂 hopefully that will make it better
That was very helpful! I’m pretty new to YT and I use natural light and it can be so finicky. I have the canon m50 as well and it’s wonderful. Thank you for another great video:)
Also... for on the go videos either in the car or at a restaurant, travelling or in a store etc... DO you recommend a mirrorless small camera over my iPhone 12 pro? am looking for the best sound/video quality.
I am in search of an ideal camera for my cooking videos and my food photos. What would your suggestion be? I do move around in the kitchen but need the camera to take phenomenal still food photos as well. Thanks in advance. Love your taste and your channel :-)!
Just curious, and somewhat of a personal? question. Would you be able to share how you have become the person you are? what/who/experience that has influenced you to become so well-mannered and objective in the way you speak? Love your videos and thanks for sharing!
Hey Michele! So. I have no interest in buying a video camera or starting a channel, but I am a nerd, however, and just like to learn new things. You were talking about the F stop and blurry backgrounds and I just wanted to ask if "F Stop" stands for "Focal stop" or something like that? Like the smaller the number the closer behind you it stops focusing on things which makes the background blurrier? And no one make fun of me!!🤣🤣🤣 I know NOTHING about cameras so if this is like one of those common sense knowledge things it's not my fault I don't know!!🤣🤣😘😘
This was so fascinating even though I have no interest in becoming a UA-camr. 😂 Thanks for sharing such interesting insider info! Also, would you be willing to share what’s on your eyes? It’s gorgeous!
Michele: Here’s my setup! Me: 😳 deer in the (studio) lights!! Then you mention the Canon M50 that I just purchased and I relax!! 🤣 Love the fabric diffuser tip - just bought the Neewer LED lights as well! Now to film! Gulp! 😬 Thank you for sharing all this information!! 🌸💞
Wow I’ve only made it through the disclaimer in the video; however, I skimmed through the equipment mentioned in the description, and I’m impressed that a beauty guru has refined taste even in camera gear (e.g., Canon’s C-series bodies) that’s typically drooled over by camera geeks.
Michele Wang I’m finally getting around to watching and listening to the rest of the video, and your advice is insightful to your and others’ experiences (i.e., your photography background vs. their YT setup). If anyone’s seeking expertise in this unique circumstance (i.e., a blend of photography, videography, and beauty), they should turn to this video or you in general.
Good afternoon my friend ♥️. Wow, that was really interesting to learn about, and you are lit perfectly so whatever you are doing it’s magic. That ring light makes a beautiful necklace 😂😂😂. Plus a Cate shout out!! Love ya 💕💕
I use Canon M50 and it works great! I mostly use it for sit down videos like yours too but I talk about handbags LOL also lighting is so important and so is audio.
This was extremely helpful for me! 😘💕 I wonder, why I never heard about video camera! I do have all those problems, which you mentioned! It stops filming after certain time, the battery dies in the middle, the preview screen flips upwards... Especially interesting thing was lighting, because I'm considering buying one. I sometimes have to wait for days for sun coming out from the clouds, or just film in the dark. 😅
The Canon M50 is actually not a micro four-thirds! It has a regular crop sensor, the same size (and 24mp resolution) as in the D80. It just has a smaller lens mount than EF. But you can also get adapters to use EF lenses with the M-series.
Thanks so much for the correction! And I tried the EF lens mount and it was very very slow to focus and a bit loud unfortunately.
I never comment on youtube as the age we lives in there are too many noises. But I think anyone as authentic as this and shares their experience generously deserves a shout out! I am inspired with a big smile here. Thank you so much! 💖💖💖

I agree about seeing the ring light in the pupils.
Love your makeup today. Very natural and it enhances your beauty.
you are such a professional in everything you do! I love hearing you talk and educate about a different topic. :)
Thank you so much!
Same. I just subscribed to Michelle because I just love hearing her talk!
How interesting! Now I know why your videos are so high quality.
Love all your videos!❤
Your videos are always so clear. Don’t seem to go out of focus like a lot of others that I watch. You are my favourite UA-cam channel to watch 😍

Such a fascinating and informative video! Thank you so much, Michele. So much goes in to making a perfect video and you do it every time!🥰👍💥
I hear you on the frustration with the camera stopping while recording. Though I usually forget to turn the mic on, or think I hit the record button, but it's not recording...
Michele,
You have quickly become my favorite UA-camr. I simply love to all of your content.

Thanks Trina! I've got a Chantecaille mermaid eye color on in Seashell - bit.ly/3h8pgRo
I love gadgets! 🥰🥰
Thanks for the info. 🤗
Good afternoon my friend ♥️. Wow, that was really interesting to learn about, and you are lit perfectly so whatever you are doing it’s magic. That ring light makes a beautiful necklace 😂😂😂. Plus a Cate shout out!! Love ya 💕💕
You look extra beautiful in this video. ❤️
Great advice!
I use Canon M50 and it works great! I mostly use it for sit down videos like yours too but I talk about handbags LOL also lighting is so important and so is audio.
Very interesting content!
Thanks Jamilia! xoxo
Michele you’re welcome! xoxo
