It is amazing seeing the great lengths of bringing these locomotives back and bringing them to full operation. If we learn anything from the British, we should have steam on the main line more often, seeing the accomplishments
@@SmokyMtnSteam.... they will need every one they can get they're hands on after all the Diesel-Electrics go down after the coming EMP..... and it IS going to happen, in the not too distant future.
Here is this monstrous heavy haul truck carrying a monster locomotive. And it con't take the weight of 1 guy. He has to walk? I agree that walking is good evercise. But really, This looks like the greatest attraction since Elvis played there. What a beautiful engine. Finally saved fromt he rust pile. This should have happened 60 years ago. He surely had good brakes on that hill. Nicelyy done, guys. Very impressive. SOmeone takes a photos of the drone taking a photo of someone taking a photo of.....
Actually there is VERY LITTLE to do to bring her to life as it turns out. I have been involved with that project team from the start and many miracles are involved here to the point you think God Almighty wants this thing alive again. It turns out that NCStL completely major overhauled an entire lot of these for standby backup for its passenger trains. When that road made a total diesel commitment it scraped those with barely wear on those overhauls. HOWEVER 576 was one of the very last totally overhauled engines and was strategically stored and then donated to City of Nashville. It basically was never used post overhaul. A year ago a major engineering inspection was performed to access the damages so a restore project list could be created. SURPRISINGLY.....the boiler was LIKE NEW, ever single axle pack was LIKE NEW with all new roller bearings shop retro fitted and fresh grease still intact like it was 50 years ago! Even the grease pen machinists sign off on parts was still there from NCStL shops. Next came the stay bolt inspect and every one passed with flying colors! This engine is being shopped only because they are adding equipment to the control compartment taken from the design of the Tornado in the UK and that will make 576 a 100% FRA mainline approved locomotive! Of course baby needs a new dress so paint will also be applied and of course that marvelous stripe. Maybe even better news......I am also invloved in the Pennsy T1 project and you may not believe how far that thing has come. 1) They have a complete tender. The T1s used a very rare format of the long range tender. Some M1s also used that and one was obtained from an M1 at a museum in exchange for a tender most commonly used for an M1. 2) They have the frame! Oh yes. 2018 saw the entire locomotive bed completed. This T1 is not only being erected ground up from scratch....those engines had certain design flaws which are being designed out. The frame is just one example and should be superior to the original design. 3) THEY HAVE THE BOILER! 2018 also saw the completion of the boiler by a notorious boiler firm who almost donated the thing. All components are designed to modern specs and this is basically a super boiler. God knows what tractive force this thing may have. 4) They have the DRIVERS! Oh yes, this project is literally rolling along. A few prototype drivers were designed and made for test purposes. A final design was selected and last I heard they were all made and are stored on site. 5) A CAB IS BEING ERECTED! 2019 should see the cab construct finished along with an entire control set. Those crazy Brits really started something with Tornado and now everybody wants a class 1 FRA mainline approved steam locomotive. 6) 2019 is looking to see the body of the engine laid out and erected. OMG Beyond that amazing turn of events.....a C&O mallet is coming along and is slated for debut late 2019/early 2020 as well as a legendary WM 2-10-0 which was actually the highest tractive effort locomotive design ever built. Even NS has restarted its steam program. This is really a golden age of steam restoration. Its so sad some of the fallen classes that do not remain to be part of this like NYC Hudsons or Niagras; ACL R1s, L&N Big Emmas, etc However......if this T1 comes off like its looking......who knows what locomotive we might redesign and construct next!
@@trainchaser17b91 Try google searching T1 PROJECT. They have a website & I am registered there. BIG BOY now lives I am told they have passed the boiler test stage and some one told me they have been moving it back & forth in the yard under its own power to set the bearings and seals.
I would love to see a few extinct locomotives come back to life. The NYC Dreyfus Hudsons, the SP AC-9s and MT-4s, the Big Emma's and so forth. Would love to see Frisco 1522 alive again. ATSF 2926 is almost finished with her steam debut around the corner. 3751 is being put back together from its 15 year rebuild. I love hearing all of these engines being brought back to life.
Can’t Wait To See 576 Run Down The Mainline Like It Used To Do, And Also, I Have Some Questions 1. Are They Going To Use A Aux Tender For 576’s Excursions Or Not. 2. Where Is 576 Running In, NS?, CSX?, Some Class II Railroad?. 3. Is 576 Going To Go Really Fast Or Regular Speed. 4. Are You Going To Film 576’s Test Run And It’s Excursions.
1. I don't think they have an aux tender yet but they may need one for long excursions. 2. Nashville & Eastern Railroad 3. They can go pretty fast from Nashville to Lebanon, past that they'd need to slow down a lot due to track conditions. 4. You betcha.
It'll run on the Nashville & Eastern, same tracks TCRM uses, and it'll pull TCRM's passenger consist. I'm not sure if they'll be run as TCRM trains though, or if NSPS will just borrow the equipment.
it’s weird seeing CSX being thanked for sponsoring a steam locomotives restoration, especially when they’re the stereotypical “we hate this stuff” railroad
CSX has been becoming friendlier lately. They've been heavily involved with the C&O 2716 project and let NKP 765 run over their rails to CVSR last year.
Probably the only time you'll be able to chase this engine on foot. Nice work.
Thanks, I greatly look forward to chasing by car (and riding of course!)
With so much depressing news elsewhere, it's nice to have SOMETHING to be excited and happy about! Great to see all the big steam come back to life!

From all of us at NASHVILLE STEAM, Thank you all for your support!
And thank you for all your work to preserve this piece of Tennessee history!
Thank you to all who made this possible. True heroes that deserve far more credit than they get.
My grandfather and I were walking down the street right next to it!
Its great that you and your grandfather got to experience that, I certainly won't forget the sight.
Forgotten old steam engines coming out of the wood work these last couple years. So surprising.
Its certainly a good time for steam!

Can’t wait to see it on youtube back in action soon
just look at the peoples interest in this ore inspiring locomotive that made america great new hope is here
I can't wait to see her running back on her tracks again.
The 19s, in the like 1960s we were put with the steam, now they will be thriving again
Let her Mighty Wheels roll again😃👍

If Tennessee had an official state steam locomotive it'd either be this one or 4501

Following UPRR's steam program they have found that these programs are cheap and very effective public relations.
