    This year was definitely less packed and a lot less stressful chasing. The Hancock Long Bell 3-Chime Whistle off of NC&STL #576 was just amazing. My favorite type of whistle is a Virginia & Southwestern 3-Chime (Southern #630 wore it in 2012), but that was basically Southern's Hancock Long Bell 3-Chime. Again, very impressed with the secondary whistle. Only problem I had with the event was that I was just upset that on Sundays they would only go to Everett or Deep Lock Quarry (South of Peninsula OH). Right now I don't plan on returning, but I will probably show up again next year.
    I also got to see ‪@BessemerLakeErie902‬ here at the event, and I also got to meet ‪@ToledoRails‬ & CentralOhioTrains. Make sure to go subscribe to their channels (links are below).

    #576's whistle was actually not made by Hancock. It was built at the NC&StL shops. One-of-a-kind whistle right there.

    576's sounds like the whistles of a Delaware & hudson K62 northern, and a Delaware & Hudson challenger

    That pond shot is one I’ve wanted for a while. Oh well I had no regrets not going this year, but if it’s back next year I guess I’ll be back! Great video.

      Yeah. I only went because of the guest whistle and it was amazing. If I go back next year I hope they run the whole dang route.

    It’s actually not a Hancock. Fairly similar but it’s actually an NC&STL shop built whistle. Similar to the Hancock but in fact, unique.

    Just 5 psi short of the pressure needed to make it sound like 576.

      Really? Still sounded amazing in person.

    • @FanRailer
      @FanRailer 4 роки тому +5

      5 psi isn't going to change the pitch all that much lol. It's probably not even a noticeable difference.

    • @FanRailer
      @FanRailer 3 роки тому +4

      Abdul Zuher lmao no it does not. You’re thinking of locomotives that run at 300 PSI and supply their whistle with superheated steam. 765 afaik supplies it’s whistle with saturated steam.

    • @alexpaumen3937
      @alexpaumen3937 3 роки тому +3

      OH! Now that makes sense. Superheated steam. Higher temperature + more steam = higher pitch. Not my words but the words of Swanson (the inventor of the M5, P5, and K5 horns) himself.

      The whistle is a Hancock Long Bell 3 Chime base, customized at the NC&STL Shops. Big Boy's whistle is also a Hancock Long Bell 3-Chime but sounds a little higher.

    • @MiddleTennesseeRailProductions
      @MiddleTennesseeRailProductions 4 роки тому +1

      @@GTRailFanProductions And smoother. But the absolute BEST long-bell Hancock 3-chime was #844's original(?) that she wore up to around 2008 when it started to wear out and was replaced in 2012 by a throatier whistle that came off a Big Boy, I believe. It just don't sound right on #844. She deserves the same whistle she had back then.

      @@MiddleTennesseeRailProductions I feel the best Hancock Long Bell 3-Chime was Frisco #1522's. Beautiful whistle and awesome steam locomotive. My favorite type of whistle is a Virginia & Southwestern 3-Chime, which Southern 630 wore in June/July 2012. A Virginia & Southwestern 3-Chime was basically an early version of a Southern PS-4 Whistle, which sound like Hancock Long Bell 3 Chime. Frisco #1522's whistle sounds basically just like a Virginia & Southwestern 3-Chime, which is just awesome to me.

      They were wearing NC&STL #576's whistle to raise awareness of the restoration of the steam locomotive, NC&STL 576. NC&STL stands for the Nashville, Chattanooga, & St. Louis Railroad. I personally loved the Hancock Long Bell 3-Chime off of NC&STL 576 on 765. It's nothing permanent. They only did this for the last sunday of the last weekend of Steam In The Valley.
