So glad I found this video before buying! I was never keen on the plain back so I'm glad I'll be getting a design. I also had NO IDEA there were errors, that would have made me so annoyed

I pulled my two decks out the other day for the first time in a long time. I instantly fell back in love. This is one of the most absolutely beautiful decks I’ve ever laid my eyes and hands on. The main issues people had with the first edition were that the corners were ever so slightly bent so that they wouldn’t shuffle well, and that some had a problem with smudges (maybe white specks for some too, or do those come off?). Also that one card was wrong. I too wrote an email and got the replacement card plus the new deck with the new design on the back.
The corners’ issue worked out. Either I straightened them out myself and forgot or the issue just resolved itself. What was a surprise to me is that I LOVE the black deck! I could care less that there are some smudges (I always have clean dry hands when I use mine so it never was a big deal). The gold edged wear off a bit the more you shuffle so the imperfection re. that doesn’t bother me either. They shuffle beautifully and the blackness was one of the main reasons I wanted the deck so much in the first place (once the art was deemed by me beautiful). The blackness is like looking deep into the universe or something! Its neutrality is perfect. So I use that the most and just consider it my “beater” deck yet the more beat up it gets, weirdly the better! But I have the second deck for later/someday! :)
I wish someone can teach me how to use tarot cards , I feel it calling me to do this, i ordered online already ... 💓
I have the second edition, and love it, but tend to use it more as an Oracle
It's indeed like the remix of a tarot and oracle :D Neither this nor that - but I'll have to see where it falls for me, I tried it today with the Messengers Oracle (also by R.Phelan) and got some interesting results... Further investigation needed :D I want to work with the Arthurian tarot group first :)
Just as a FYI you only need slide the plastic wrap off, that is holding the deck together. Depending how you store it, it can be slid back on if you wanted. Also depends on the quality thickness of said plastic card wrap.
Sometimes they are easy to slide indeed, sometimes not so much. And sometimes they fall off by itself even :D But I usually don't keep them so I opt to not struggle with them too long (you probably saw I tried to slide it a few times there before I broke it) :)
I have this one on my list to get, but of course would prefer the 2nd addition. Thanks for the video.
Mine doesn't have the gold edges? Is it a knock off then? I didnt buy online :(
Might be the later issues came without gilded edges- IF it's the large size deck, I'm really not sure.. BUT if yours is smaller size - without black borders is the 3rd edition they made smaller in size.. But it it's small and with the borders- looks like ones in the video but small: then it's most likely a knock off :(
I Just Got it mine and doesn't have gold edges. In Book said printed 2020 ISBN 978-1-922161-95-6.

Cards are perfect without any flaws. I will edge them with Black permanent marker.
Hi! Thank you for the comparison. Do the two editions have the same ISBN, they should not actually. I wasn´t able to read the ISBNs in your video, would you be so kind and have a look and let me know the ISBNs of both editions. Pretty please :)

Thank you for your response, and your efforts to find out the 2 ISBNs. I´m scratching my head because of this for a few weeks now....there are 3 different offers of this deck on Bookdepository, all with different price and date of publishing but nowhere is stated which edition :( ...
Also in your video it looked very much like the black backs (1st edition) print is sharper then the other one....or was it really the zoom only, like you mention in the video?

Hi dears, has any of you solved the ISBN situation? I'm about to buy it and I'm not sure which version I'm buying. First time buying a product like this on the net, so I don't want to mess it up :c
It's seems as the coloring of the 1st edition is slighty darker than the 2nd edition. Did you have a problem with yours sticking together? Mine did , was kinda disappointed with that. Other than that it's an absolutely beautiful deck. I haven't worked with it a whole lot as I am still a 'student' and still trying to learn Tarot cards themselves. Oh, lol- I completely forgot about the shade of the decks, compared. Nope, they are actually the exact same- my camera angle was in such a way that the lighting was coming more on one side and made one deck maybe appear lighter. I sat and really looked at the cards side by side later near the window and they are identical :)
You so much mixed box and cards and I really didnt catch which cards are with Black back and which has more vivid colours. Which are 1st and which second ? :-) Is it from publishing house LLEWELLYN PUBN released September 8 2016 ? or from the publishing house Blue Angel Gallery released 1 June 2016 ?
There can be seen in the video that they are both Blue Angel publishing house- video date 2017 hints the release date somewhat too.. =)
I also mention the fact that the patterned backs are the second edition so when I flip them you know where is which edition: 1st ed on the right and the second one on the left. So the second edition had very slightly brighter colours.. but video enhanced the difference more that it could be actually seen with bear eyes..

@@ardetbay23 Neither of those editions are Llewellyn per se.. Llewellyn partners up with Blue Angel and distributes the product. I personally have not seen the Dreams Of Gaia that is printed solely by Llewellyn.
Right now there is also the pocket edition of the deck, which- if I recall correctly is Blue Angel collab with US Games and has smaller, borderless cards.. which we could call 3rd edition maybe..

@@ardetbay23 There are no differences visible from the box, sadly- so you can not tell which one is the older one :(
looking at the isbn (ISBN-10: 073875210X
ISBN-13: 978-0738752105): this one is the 2nd edition with pattern on back and a bit more vivid colours (the black back has dimmer/darker colours).

I do not have the decks anymore so I can't say what the isbn for the 1st edition was.. I presume first edition may not be on sale anymore as they stopped printing it.. If you are after the first edition, maybe you can find one from Facebook buy/sell/trade tarot groups..

They are a tad bit more vivid indeed, like there's more contrast to them =)
