BMW K1300S FIRST RIDE REVIEW!!!

  • Test driving a 2009 BMW a K1300S.I give a review while having a spirited ride.The bike i normally ride is a 2007 Suzuki Hayabusa.
    This was a very nice bike i was pleasantly surprise d at how smooth the throttle and gearbox was.Rev matching was a dream and engine braking was medium strength not hard not soft.Whether thats a good thing depends on your preference.The shifting was very smooth with no noticeable jerks.Not a lot of torque it kinda felt like a 600cc supersport as far as power delivery slow building with a punch at the higher rpms! The suspension was excellent and what you would want from a sport tourer.It soaked up the bumps with ease.The seating position felt akward at first but within minutes you feel right at home and it is extremely comfy and good on the back and no pressure on the palms.
    The brakes are very good as well.Handling is a little clumsy and the bike feels like it has a high center of gravity.This is felt especially at low speeds.The gauge cluster is wonderfully simple and sleek which is right up my alley.The biggest gripe i have is that annoying engine case placed right next to your right foot and brake.You will find yourself hitting it MANY times.Im sure with enough time you can adapt but it was a pain for me.All in all its a very good bike and Deceptively fast.Its a sleeper for sure.
    My name is Night Rider and i am a new motovlogger riding a
    Hayabusa.

    That K1300S is like no other bike on the road right now. Hossick front end, paralever rear end, shaft drive, linked ABS, electronic adjustable suspension (EAS), heated grips. It is a nice bike and the K1200S or K1200R Sport can be had for not much money used and are great bikes. Very good quality. That "wishbone" or Hossick front end does not dive under hard braking, that is a nice feature when you have to get on the brakes hard and all the weight is pitched foreward. Nice review.

    Pirates lair sells extensions for shift and brake pedal as well as dropping the pegs about an inch for more stretch. Awesome bike got a 16 and I can’t stop smiling on it . Great power delivery very stable drives like a juggernaut . Thanks for sharing .

    thanks for the review night rider. I was looking at this for possibly my next ride, since I ride the upright position on my ninja 650. bmw k1300s, zx14r, hayabusa were some choices I was looking at.
    I enjoy your content and look forward to more.

    My ride is a BMW, 1999 R1100RS ABS. 40,356 miles on it and still rides as if it is new. I had several other type of bikes in this is my favorite. I had to change out the front rotos, pads and the battery once. Oh by the way, I'm 63 years old. Keep it coming Night Rider.

      Been riding HD for years, and absolutely do not want the cheapness and tonnage of those bikes again. Been looking at Monster 1200s (sounds like a weed wackier on steroids), Aprilia’s cost too much, as do MV’s, the other Four look way too futuristic, and the Beemer, humm, and I’m 63 too. I wonder...

    I test rode one last summer... you're spot on with your review. Everything about the K1300 is smooth!
    I guess they don't make em anymore, would love to have one though.
    They were dubbed " Hayabusa Killer ", not sure why. Hayabusa has more power.
    Good review man...

      The K1300S was quicker than the Hayabusa from 0-100km/h (kph) and 0-200km/h (kph) but the Hayabusa had better top speed. And the K1300R naked version was in it's time the quickest accelerating bike in the world even quicker than the K1300S. 0-100km/h (62mph) in 2.7 seconds and 0-200km/h (124mph) in 7.9 seconds in 2008.

    I love your videos!
    Read the comments but wanted to contribute a bit. The K1300s is more like 175hp and try walking out of the dealer for less than 20k. I noticed you weren't using the quick shifter that is standard on it. Also the k13 wakes up after 7k rpm's...was waiting for you to hit it. Last thing is the breaks are interconnected, I don't think I've ever used the back break...except to wheelie...lol. I've never been on a Bussa but your cluster looks fancy, much nicer then the BMW.

    Nice bike!!! My bike of choice is the BMW and the Busa. I don't think it can take any Busa (my opinion) but I do believe it you are not into that but want a strong edgy bike to get some ride thrills it is a good bike. Let us know how the "Get Down" gets down. A little Kool and the Gang for ya. I bet you caught that Ole Schooler!

      The K1300S has a 1300cc straight 4 not a flat twin.
      For reference BMW makes motorcycle with 8 different
      engines.
      1300cc straight 4 --- K1300S.
      1000cc straight 4 --- S1000RR and S1000R.
      straight 6 ---- K1600 series.
      Air/oil cooled flat twin ----RnineT/Scrambler.
      Watercooled flat twin ---- R1200 series.
      Parallel twin
      ---F700GS & 800GS/GT/R.
      650cc Single ---- F650GS.
      300cc Single -- G310R.

      @Derek: I was more talking about maintenance and relative cost of repairs vs a comparable import bike, rather than one time sticker price. I could be wrong, though. I had a BMW R1150R that I rode for two years, a much cheaper bike than this, and still was impressed at the ongoing costs. Don't get me wrong, they're great bikes and Beemers are built with maintenance in mind. Stay on top of it and they'll last forever. The K engine is no different and decently powerful. However, more power could be had for less money. Probably wouldn't charge past 100k miles no problem like the K1200R, K1300S, etc could, though. But you still pay. More than I did for a previous Kawasaki, which admittedly was not sport tuned.
      Edit: And the insurance quote, I was told, was just the insurance company's way of saying they didn't want to insure a young kid on that kind of horsepower. However, I got a much more reasonable quote on much more horsepower, second hand. The used part is probably the important part, but still. Anyway, I mostly just always found that incident funny.

    The BMW K1300S cost $15,995 base and there are of course options being that it's a BMW: electronic suspension, tire pressure monitor, heated grips, on board computer, gear shift assist, and traction control which brings the price up accordingly. I highly recommend checking out the BMW R1000R and RR. The single R can be fully optioned up for $15k and I think it's a lot of motorcycle for the money.

    I do have a question here. Right now i am earning 2 BMW bikes. There is the K1200RS with about 131 HP and i am not sure about the power but i guess it is 118NM. My absolute favorite is the other one HP4 100ccm with about 200HP and i think about 112NM. I am now thinking of selling the K1200 because she has or appears to have way more "power" without RPM and she is just way smoother and much more fun on Highways and Cruises than the HP4 is... I bought the 1200 because of cruising and i really enjoy her.. And now i see the K1300S with about 175HP and a bower of 140 or 150NM or whatever... I am thinking that in the same RPM Range this one is even compareable to the HP4 and maybe faster bacause when the HP4 has to much power and is Lifting the front Wheel i think the K1300 will be more power, more weight and she is defenitely longer.. So basically she will be able to bring more power to ground, right ?

    • @nightrider3067
      @nightrider3067  7 років тому

      Long story the hp4 is faster.

    • @Miley-RayStewart
      @Miley-RayStewart 7 років тому

      I am sorry if i was leaving a wrong therm. The Story was not about "hp4 over everything." I just asked for advice from someone who has ridden b1300 or 1400ccm hyperbikes to tell me if it is possible to get the Feeling i amn searching for. i want more power and i believe that the hyperbikes do even have way more in common than the hp does... at least on lower rpms... i just think a zzr or a busa will deliver a more linear and way earlyer pull that this sudden the hp4 or he rr does... i am looking for somethign beeing compareable and even able to travel in higher Speed .

    Why are you trying to apply the rear brake? 80% of the braking power comes from the front brake, not to mention it's much safer. Also, if you have ABS, you don't even have to use rear brake, because the front brake applies the rare break as well. ;-)

    I want one these bikes but not willing pay 20g for a new one, or over pay for a used one. I think that bmw's biggest down fall is that they spend way to much time redesigning concept bikes and adventure bikes into pretty much the same thing. like for instance the 650,700,800gs pretty much the same bike just tuned different. the r1200rs could have easily just been a inline bike 3 or 4 cylinder and been a much better bike. I test rode the 1200rs and to be honest I would ride a camel though a mine field before I got back on that bike again. I'm on a f800gt, and my bike feels and handles much better then the 18,000 dollar 1200rs. my f800gt and the k3 are the only bikes that are in bmw's line up that I really like. If I were 20 years younger or even 10 I would throw the s1000rr in the mix. I'm strongly considering just staying with my f800gt. It suits my needs but if I decide to go bigger then the only other choice I'll have is the K3 if I stay with bmw.

    No doubt it's definitely down on power compared to the busa, especially torque
    HORSEPOWER
    BMW K1300S HP: 142.9 hp @ 9500
    Kawasaki ZX-14R Ninja: 183.9 hp @ 10,200 rpm
    Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa: 166.3 hp @ 9500 rpm
    TORQUE
    BMW K1300S HP: 87.2 lb.-ft. @ 6800 rpm
    Kawasaki ZX-14R Ninja: 108.9 lb.-ft. @ 7500 rpm
    Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa: 101.2 lb.-ft. @ 6900 rpm

    • @robertp457

      To be fair the BMW K1300S is getting on in years and isn't their newest sport bike. You should give the BMW S1000RR or S1000R a go. Should be able to get a test ride at a BMW dealer.

    • @Kaspurr84

      +Derek Jonez those numbers were just a copy and paste from a motorcycle.com article of a shootout between the 3 using their dyno, they could be wrong

    • @robertp457
      @robertp457 8 років тому

      I think they made a mistake since the BMW reaches top torque much higher in the rev range.  Of course the numbers they give are at the crank, but still. "175 hp (129 KW) at 9,250 rpm""103 lb-ft (140 Nm) at 8,250 rpm"The K1300s is around 20 - 30 lbs lighter.

    • @Kaspurr84
      @Kaspurr84 8 років тому +2

      +Derek Jonez don't forget also it's the only shaft driven one so it has the most drivetrain power loss between the 3 in relation to crank and wheel hp
