    Great video on the Techart adapter. There are a few added benefits even if you're using as a manual focus adapter
    1. It allows for the use of Nikon's focus confirmation instead of being limited to focus peaking (which I've never personally been a fan of
    2. You can also use to get close than minimum focus on any of your manual lenses by using the adapter as a bit of a short extension tube or focusing your lens less than infinity (against the recommended of Techart)
    3. It also has the capability of storing your f-stop in EXIF if you set the aperture on the camera body to a certain value to match what you want (there's a table provided by Techart).
    Overall, I've been using this mainly for my M mount and M42 mount vintage lenses. It's been great. It doesn't work that great for constant moving or fast moving subjects but no should be buying this thinking it has modern AF anyway.

    This was the first AF adapter I considered spending money on and am so happy I did!

    Note: This comment is about the af adapters- Sony to Nikon. ! have a Nikon Z8 and both adapters. The Techart was bought about a year ago (2023) the Megadap bought recently. Neither adapter works properly with the firmware 2.0 of the Nikon Z8. Prior to the firmware 2.0, the Techart adapter would power the Sony 16-35 pz lens properly while the Megadap does not. The Megadap bobbles a bit while attempting focus. The Techart WAS faster and more accurate. The Techart adapter does not fit as perfectly, with some wiggle and it is impossible to take off a Sony lens and leave the adapter on the Nikon body. While the Megadap does offer a better release button for doing this. Final note, NEITHER adapter work properly with the firmware 2.0 of the Z8. Megadap indicated they might have a firmware update in March 2024. Techart has NOT responded to my queries.

    I just got one of these adapters for my Zf and found your video to be completely accurate to my experience as well. I have a hybrid shooting workflow for still subject, to autofocus with the adapter when punched in like I do when I manual focus. Because the adapter sometimes comes close to focusing, the punching in helps knowing. when it's hit focus perfectly. Some clever work by the folks at Techart. Works well with voigtlander. Next up is my 75mm summilux, which I think will be the real test with a heavier lens.

    Unfortunately, they don't offer a Micro Four Thirds version. I've written them, suggesting that might be an interesting and popular version to make, since many µ4/3rds fans are into vintage film lenses.

    TTArtisan 6bit M-Z adapter. Semi autofocus with "trap focus" and your fingers as the "focus motor". Works with eye/face detection too. And you can easily "register" the lens focal length (or something close) via the adapter for EXIF data and proper IBIS.

    • @hashemmcadam
      @hashemmcadam  10 місяців тому

      That looks like a good option! I just discovered it recently, probably what I'd use if I had a Zf.

    • @NickDelDuca
      @NickDelDuca 10 місяців тому +1

      Wait what? I'm reading about this... Looks like you can do this on any Nikon body with any manual focus lens and any adapter? But the ZF specifically will move the AF point to the eye in manual focus so you can do trap focus with eye AF on the ZF. If that's the case I'm so sold, going to order one straight away.

    • @enshongmiranda
      @enshongmiranda 10 місяців тому +5

      @@NickDelDuca You can't do it with any manual lens. Trap focus isn't even available on chipped Z-Mount Voigtlander lenses. It should be technically doable I think but Nikon is stupidly restricting it to lenses that has AF/MF switches which are autofocus lenses. A completely idiotic restriction considering almost nobody would shoot MF with an AF lens.
      The workaround is to use the TTArtisan 6Bit M-Z Adapter. You just need to buy either lenses with an M-mount or adapt any lens to the M-mount then attach it to a Nikon Z body via the TTArtisan 6Bit adapter. Then go to custom settings and change AF-C and AF-S priority selection to Focus, go to AF activation and AF-ON only with Out-of-focus release Disabled. Then go back and set AF activation to Shutter/AF-ON again. Works with all AF Area modes including subject tracking and eye/face detection.
      Just hold down the shutter button fully and turn the focus ring, then the camera shutter will fire if whatever is under the focus point or if the eye/face are in focus.

      @NickDelDuca 10 місяців тому +1

      @@enshongmiranda Ahh ok thanks so much for the info. I was reading more about it on the forums and realized after I made the comment that it was the TTArtisan adapter that allowed it to work. So I guess I would be able to do this with any Nikon Z Body? I'm really considering selling my Sony A7RV and getting a Z8. Seems like this would work on the Z8 just as well as the ZF. I probably would end up with a ZF and a Z8 but I might buy the Z8 first just because I need a good replacement for the Sony and I'm not sure if the ZF is quite that.

    It works ok for photo. With the right AF-C setting the hit rate is not bad even for moving subject. But don't expect it to work for video shooting because it will be hunting all the time for focus and the noise will be in the footage.

    Works well with my lenses, except not so much with the Light Lens Lab 50mm f/1.2. The base of the LLL 50/1.2 prevents the locking tab from locking the lens, Lens mounts fine, except it doesn't lock onto the adapter. Not sure I'll be keeping this adapter just for that reason...

    The problem with the thypoch is because of the internal focusing. Ofc it focuses too by pushing the whole lens in and out but it will never have the same sharpness/image as when internally focused

    There are still some issues for the Techart to AF properly.
    1/ The firmware of Techart is kind of shit while using on Zf, it is a lot more responsive on Z7 or Z7II even at low light condition. I e-mailed to Techart 2 month ago, no response at all.
    2/ Lenses must be set to f5.6 or larger, maximum aperture like f1.4 to certain lenses are not working properly due to the lens sharpness at wide open is poor or when the DOF is very thin.
    3/ Focal length for longer lens response better. Best to be 50mm or above.
    Hope someone can spoke to Techart to work on the firmware seriously.
    Same lens, same adapter, on Z7 / Z7II, I got over 90-95 % of nailed focus pictures. Same setting on Zf, my hit rate lowered a lot.
