Honestly loving the Abroad in Japan Podcast being on UA-cam. It's quickly become one of my favourite things. Great to have even more regular Chris/Pete content!
Dear Creative Chris and Prolific Pete, Thank you for today's episode. Are the video and audio episodes from now on going to be simultaneously uploaded like this one? If yes, then I am utterly delighted. Thanking you, Sayantan

24:50 🏞️🌉Hey Chris!! Apart from Kurashiki, 2 other awesome spots in Okayama Prefecture that I think are quite underrated are Mt. Washuzan and Shibukawa National Park. Both have amazing views of the great Seto Ohashi bridge and the Seto Inland Sea and surprisingly has very few tourists... I have many fond memories of these spots when me and me mates would drive around these spots and other great lookout spots round Okayama-ken when I was an ALT there a few years back 😅 Been catching up with your podcasts and I've been meaning to suggest these spots when someone writes in asking for a cool spot that's a little off the beaten track... Love your podcasts and keep up the good work as always! 😎👍
I stopped briefly in Fukuyama en route to Onomichi to check out the Shimanami route in May. I totally want to go back, seemed like a nice place! I wish we'd had time for Kurashiki too. We couldn't cycle the Shimanami Kaido due to health problems, but we've committed to cycling it next time and will check out Kurashiki and more of Fukuyama too.
Hello, Chris. First time listener of your podcast, and i love it! But could you please check the audio levels of the "fax machine" music intro? It seems way louder than the rest of the audio. Thanks ❤
Oh damn, I didn't realize you were a DM fan! I've seen them like 4 times in concert and I saw them in Berlin on their most recent tour. Also, I've been to the DM bar in Tallinn too. I even have the t-shirt. Apparently there's another DM themed bar in St. Petersberg (different owner)? And I did happen across one in Budapest.
Wasn't it revealed that the flyer article had things omitted from it. They didn't show the flyer itself in the article. And there was a flyer for the men. That told them how to act towards women.
Cat pram man reminds me of a neigbour I had in China. We worked and lived on campus at a university. This young French fella would practice guitar on a park bench in front of his apartment.... a small crowd of students would always gather to watch him strum away.... He never practiced inside... I think I'd have more luck with the cats to be fair 😅
Love the podcast on YT. In this episode though, there's two things where I think you skipped on the detail. #1 Google Maps is also stunning for public transport. It lists train platforms, times, bus stops and bus numbers. #2 Suica on an Apple Watch or iPhone. When Express Pay is set up, you just top-up and tap like a normal Suica. Plus it gets around all the card supply issues. Keep up the good work!
We are going to be planning a Japan excursion by the seat of our pants after I get my bonus check in the spring. Would be quite comical to run into any of you content creators and I certainly would react like your Norwegian fan even there considering how big Tokyo is!
I believe Depeche Mode are older than Chris! They are older than me as well. Dave Gahan's dancing never disappoints! I hope to catch them later this year. I miss the Alan Wilder days, though I was a child at the time. My mom was into some of their songs, and I got into it as well. I think I'm quite lucky my mom listened to a lot of 80s pop music.
As a Scandinavian myself, I would also probably be quite surprised (in a good way) if I saw a content creator I know in the middle of some random city/town here lmao- (Also remember the tidbit on the last Trash Taste episode you were in about liking brown cheese, and I was glad to know that you liked it! I know it's not everyone's favorite, and probably does not sound quite that appetizing if you haven't grown up with it) ^^;
is it just me or each time i hear this on my headphone, sometime they are audio issues when it switch between Chris and Pete? Not noticeable on speaker but very obvious on headphone.
The tap water in Harrogate is basically the same as Harrogate bottled water, and is also the reason I can no longer drink tap water when I go down South now
Suica card - no! Bought it a year ago because it could be used and returned at JR starions. But actually, inly in Tokyo area. At Shikoku, they told me I cannot use or return/withdrawal money from it elsewhere and as I was about to leave country at Fukuoka, I could not get to money I had at card. Could not even pay Shinkansen with it. So I just gifted it to someone headed to Tokyo at evening dinner… Why don't you add tag of place you are at or add it in brackets so people could find your videos like the one you mentioned?
They stopped selling Suica cards? :O What happens if I use the one I still have from my trip to Japan back in 2018 would it still be usable/chargeable? Also on the tapwater. On my trip to Japan (as I said above back in 2018) I had tapwater they just served me in a restaurant along with drinks that tasted like water straight out of a swimming pool. I guess they just wanted to make extra sure that I won't have problems with swallowing bakteria as a gaijin but my experience with tapwater was awful.
If I had to leave Germany both Norway and Japan would be my top picks, Japan only if I can work online, I am NOT getting into Japanese (over)work culture :D
The intersection of Abroad in Japan and Depeche Mode was not something I was expecting but I’m here for it!! 🥹 I’m patiently waiting for my concert date in Florida! (Long time listener/viewer of the pod first time commenter) ❤

Chris I know you read comments sometimes so hope you see this as I have a somewhat important question for an upcoming trip. I LOVE sushi, but my husband only eats chicken (no red meat or seafood at all), is it considered super rude for us to go to a resturant and he just drinks alcohol while I have a meal? He doesnt want me to miss out on enjoying my favorites but Id feel terrible if he just had to "sit outside" while I ate 😅 Thanks in advance if you see this.
Depeche Mode and Hall and Oats are so vastly different, it seems wrong putting them together, even in a sentence 😂 I agree with Pete- out of all the 80's bands, why Hall and Oats?
I found amusing that it was Onomichi that is the offending town. I think there is a lack of appreciation for men with children there. As anyone who has played Yakuza 6 will know, trying to get Haruto to stop crying is literally more difficult than getting my real daughter to calm down.
