yeah, dying is a much better punishment for touching other blocks, imagine if you were about to kill the moon lord and you bumped into a random sky island that you didn't know was there.
I feel like candy canes are the perfect Terraria block for a challenge like this. They're relatively easy to get and in infinite supply, but you're forced to rely on combat and a decent amount of luck to get any, so progress is based on your skill while limited by your luck. There's not many other blocks in Terraria that have the same restrictions that make for an interesting "only touch x" challenge in the game, and certainly almost none that are available from the typical world spawnpoint
@DarthLiam-gd1wc Sand is one of the only other blocks I was thinking of to make this challenge possible. There's a lot more of it to start, but gravity restricts its usage, and it requires much more prep to farm it, either with Antlion attacks or ammo reserve with the Sand Gun. I believe it's also possible to naturally spawn in the edge of a desert with the right world gen, making it a much more natural start and not necessitating slowly bridging along with three blocks to reach a much greater source. Sand might be *too* naturally abundant, though, so it'd rely on if you think the gravity effect is enough to counterbalance the thousands of sand blocks that are automatically generated in an average world
@@raiisleep Pine Tree Blocks are basically the same as Candy Cane blocks but with only one variety, so they'd theoretically be twice as hard to get enough of
@@DarthLiam-gd1wc The thing with gravity blocks is that you can work around it in most cases by just placing a solid block (that you won't touch) underneath
The insta-restart would kill this for me, but I'd totally play a challenge mod where you define a block or set of blocks you may touch, and everything else deals unblockable DoT.
This is a better idea. Damage over time that might insta a pre-hardmode, but is maybe survivable for an instant if your Def is high enough. I'd like to see all holiday blocks though. More variety. More room for decorations and flair.
As a dude who plays HC terraria I can promise you restarting is rough. plus your making your lose condition very easy is insane props to you. Making it just death it good and if it doesn't feel hard enough you can always make it a medium core character. The spike mod idea is a amazing idea.

You should allow pine tree blocks and their items. Not only are they a christmas present drop, but they can be used as a present based source of wood. You could even add to the challenge by making them your only usable wood blocks. It would fit if the npc houses had to be made from almost entirely from present drops.
Idk if there's a mod for this, but what about a Cave Story controls /cosplay challenge? Like, linear up/ down/ left/ right aiming, and for weapons, you put the weapons in the hotbar, but in cave story fashion, you have different weapons in different slots as if they are the different "levels" of a weapon, and taking too much dmg while holding a weapon temporarily forces you to use the weaker version weapon until you grab enough gold. Could be fun, if a mod is made to make it automatic. Take too many hits and your currently used weapon type would "downgrade" to the weaker version, and then you have to switch or put up with the penalty in hopes of grabbing enough gold to fix it.

3:52 "I'm just gonna hope they can't inexplicably fit through 1 block gaps." They can...As far as I recall, one block platform gaps from below are fair game. If they come at it from below at an angle and they line up in a way that their model eye is inside the gap while the rest of them is outside and they are accelerating (so expert mode, really), then yea. I assumed it would've just been what you were standing on, so that definitely makes it harder
Here is a small tip: if your world has a desert on both sides, look in the ground and look for a curve made out of sand. If that curve is there, it means snow will be in the opposite direction.
i think it'd be better to make so if you *step* on non-candy cane blocks you get punished, not if you get knocked back
I have no idea why this is so funny to me. Merry Christmas!!
Bro really needs this next update to drop soon, he's inventing concepts just to keep posting
If you can manage to find an underground marble biome, you could grind the gladiator set for knockback immunity rather than having to kill skeletron and gamble on the dungeon chests for a shield
Fun video, thanks for the laughs, sparking wand :)
i would love to see more terraria skyblock or a modded play through
this one was a lot of fun to watch! thanks
MY ANXIETY WHEN YOU JUMPED OML

"I'm just gonna hope they can't inexplicably fit through 1 block gaps."
They can...As far as I recall, one block platform gaps from below are fair game.
If they come at it from below at an angle and they line up in a way that their model eye is inside the gap while the rest of them is outside and they are accelerating (so expert mode, really), then yea.
They can fit/ force through 1 block gaps from below.
Might need mythbusting but iirc it could happen in 1.3.2 and up?
Here in candy cane civilization no one dares to jump for the chest
This reminds me of RuneScape Tileman runs where the world expands as you go and expanding gets faster as you go
